Evolution

Recommended Posts

I've been thinking... as a species we've progressed this far. We have the ability to surpass all other life on earth when it comes to building things and that has made us great and corrupt... so where do we go on from here? Where will evolution take the human race?... If we don't destroy ourselves before we reach the next level :D But anwayz, I was wondering if other people had also thought about this and what do you think our next evolutionary step will be? Will we be able to remember things better or will it be something different, somethy physical like we'll have bigger, square eyes or bigger ears like in that TDK ad :D

We dont have a dire need to live underwater.

We dont have a dire need to fly.

Thus, pretty small chance of us evolving into those.

If we do manage to survive as a species then I believe we will eventually start to lose our competitive nature, and learn to co-operate as a whole. In fact, that's probably the main trait we will need in order to survive that long in the first place. The ultra-competitive types will eventually compete and fight themselves into extinction, and those able to see the global "big-picture" of the future of the species and work together in peace will survive. The 'survival of the fittest' worked well to get us to this point, but we have developed the technology where competing with each other will eventually lead to extinction of the species, and the survival of the smartest and most rational will outweigh the survival of the strongest.

Not an evolutionary change you will be able to see, perhaps, but a very important one.

uhmm.... my personal saying is that we may evolve into better people..... peaceloving... i mean..... in the old days... every body was batteling eachother over a piece of land... now over faith.

so maybe in next era's we might be batteling over recources.....

but i think we actually are going the right way.

but then comes my next worry... i think Earth will survive everything... but i dont think mankind will..... i say we all get destroyed someday and another creature.... or animal will survive and become the "dominant" spiecy...

but that is my thought :D

I couldn't have said it better myself :)

We arent really "Smarter",persay.

We are just upgrading and making new inventions and laws from older generations, basically.

As for the rest, yeah that;s true.

o.O

How funny you should say that...I actually have an RPG character (Marin, for those of you who visit RSRP ;)) from an aquatic subspecies of human called "Water-Breathers".

She's in the RPG Postlude to Holocaust. ^_^

@K-jo: I think Lynk means what the human race will develop into, which includes what we will be able to accomplish. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Lynk)

@edlib: Your view makes sense...but...I think we'd cease to exist before then. Violence has much more devastating and wide-reaching affects than cooperation, unfortunately...

That's why I said "if..."

I have the hope that the human species will figure out we are all one large organism, that there are NO real differences between any of us, and that this constant competing over resources is far, FAR less efficient and costly than working together to share them and use them wisely.

However, the pessimisstic side of me feels that the competitive instinct is far to ingrained and still too strong in all of us for that to happen.

However, if we do manage to survive, it will be because of the efforts of those who are LESS competative, not more. These people will pass thier genes and thier views along with others of similar make-up, and each succeding generation will become slightly less competative.

George Bush could be the one who commisions the Laser Beam onto the...:D

Anyways, this is alot like a comic from Calvin and Hobbes.

*ahem*

"Calvin: Look at this! Some idiot dumped trash out here!

Calvin: People seem to forget that others of us have to live on this planet too.

Calvin: You know,I dont understand why humans evolved as such thoughtless, shortminded creatures.

Hobbes:Well,it cant stay that way forever.

Calvin: You think we'll get smarter?

Hobbes: That's one of the two possibilities.

*Calvin stops, understanding Hobbes*

Calvin: Maybe we'll stop polluting before it's too late.

Hobbes: We're all holding our breaths."

It really does give us a sense of our future...
