Thats exactly the kind of immortalness Tolkien describes the Elves has. Anyway, on one hand it would be intresting, kinda like beeing an Elf, live for eternity, allways have time to do what you´ve planed. Develope your skills etc. On the other hand, I think it would feel like going to rest when you die, sort of comfortable to die of age. I think I have to say no, tho I dont want to live for eternity untill I die of some accdient or suicide etc, I think our life is to short, I would like it if we lived at least a bit longer, but not for eternity.

The universe is going down the drain at some point. It won't last forever.

Or God will end our existence at some point. Probably because he'll be starting to feel a bit lonely in Heaven, since no new souls are coming to him. Must suck.

Hmmm, does life really exist with out the presenece of death?

Interesting question. I'd guess when we've come to the stage of that immortality, some people are going to want to find out how it's on the other side. That's not to say they're getting bored, but spending so much time without dying gotta make you at least a little curious.

But yes, death would still exist. Accidents, suicide, murder etc. It's all still there.

That is, basically, the same thing as Elrond tells Arwen. But, y'see, I'm talking about immortality that could be extended to everyone around you, an option that Arwen doesn't have.

i still mite not take it. but if i was born with is i would probley not even think twice about it

Yes propably, but with eternity I meant untill that or something else happens.

Yeah...

well...

Just consider it an extremely long life, then :p

Anyone read/seen the manga/animé "Ghost in the Shell"? The way immortality is granted in that universe is when your consciousness, or "self", (your brain) is taken out of your body, encased in a protective casing, and inserted in a cyborg body that never ages. It only needs repair. Your brain is inserted into this "shell" and you're immune to aging and diseases as well as being superhuman in nearly every other aspect.

I had no choice but to become immortal, but using a thesorus from Microsoft word I discovered that I will eventually become mortal again, so I think ive got it good.

It all started with a simple game of touch, i was 6. My brother jumped over a flowerbed, and then there was a 4ft drop. I was on it so decided to jump aswell, but I caught my foot on the wall, and flipped in the air, Everything went cold and my head drove into a concrete slab, I quickly stood up and everything was blurred, I looked down at the concrete and there was a Huge Crack in it, The Lost Welshman was born. So now im immortal, and have a fear of being trapped in a small box for eternity. Also, When im older Im gonna be famous.

Ok, now for my seriouis Opinion.

Being Immortal there are only two things I fear,

1. Being drowened and not having any air, constantly struggling until I finaly reach the surface.

and the worst fear...

2. Being Trapped in a small space with no hope of escape for the rest of eternity.

There are some good points aswell, you dont have to keep fit, you can eat junk food all you want. And its funny as hell when people try and kick your ass, they get a very cool shock. In time, no doubt I would use this power for evil, but for now Im just gonna enjoy it.

If it extended to everyone around me? I'd take it. Think about it...your friends would probably all take it, and they'd have to watch you grow old and die if you didn't take it.

Or God will end our existence at some point. Probably because he'll be starting to feel a bit lonely in Heaven, since no new souls are coming to him. Must suck.

Considering how easy it is for people to get killed in accidents, I'm sure God will be just fine. :p;)

Templar, ive done a thorough layman's analysis of biotech and nanotech and think 30 years isnt that optimistic, its actually one of the more common estimates. our physical selves are nothing more than protein chains, and in three decades we will have complete control over protein chains, methinks. 20 years is a bit more optimistic.

I'd take it, providing you mean immortal and not invulnerable.

We define life by the prospect of death, and we, as humans, cannot truely be excited or 'feel alive' without risk. As long as death is possible, there is risk, and we can be happy.

Invulnerability would be a curse for everyone, as you could inflict sadistic pain on someone without him dying.

Interesting. So when I'm playing JK2, I'm happy because there's the risk that I might die from playing it?

Or did I misunderstand something.

Dear Mr Cjais, or as I nickname you 'The Philosopher', Of course you can die from playing to much JK2, I died while playing it. Its those damn sabers. There is no 'real' risk of you dieing but the player that you play can die, thus a small, but there is some sort of risk. and if youre like me and are strange, the sabers shoot out of the screen and thudump, your heads on the floor.

Hmmm.... bending my words are you.

Ok then. I can play.

If eating candy makes me happy, it's because there's the risk that I might die?

And spending time with my friends is so damn great because there's really the underlying risk of me dying?

Lime-Light: Haven't seen you in ages!

Well, ask yourself this question:

would you rather hang out with a (a)bunch of pansies, or a (b)group of guys that caused a lotta trouble?

Most normal people say (b), and if you said (a), you're kidding yourself.

I said we define life by the prospect of death...I you consider your whole life to be JK2, then you are (a)a loser, and (b)right in this case.

Beyond that, you're tking my words in a way I did not mean them. I never said that happiness is a direct result of death...it isn't. I said it makes it possible. The absense of death would create a void of happiness so unmeasurable that not even the largest candy bar or best video game can satisfy.
