Luc Solar
What do you guys think about censoring in general? I know I asked "Yes" or "No" (or Yoghurt), which is kinda dumb, because the answer is obviously more complex. Anyways, here's my humble rant: As an example, I'll start with the S-word. Ok? Ok. I can not believe that is is forbidden to say the S-word?!?! Can you possibly get any more hypocritical? You got metal detectors at schools so that kids would stop packing guns to class...gangs, whores and drug-addicts crawling around the streets, nothing but mindless violence on tv 24/7...but god forbid if you say a dirty word like $hit!! I know several cases where the non-public use of the N-word (you know, the one which is sometimes used when referring to coloured people) has totally destroyed the life-long career or men. I personally tried to share one particular funny case on these forums, but simply the use of the N-word led to my post being reported to a mod and he edited it out. I was royally pissed. I could not believe that no matter what the context is, there are crybabies here who absolutely can not deal with a simple word. I'll do a little experiment now if you don't mind: I know a man called Bob. He is a jew. *waiting to see how long it takes before someone has reported me to a mod and I get banned* *waits* Okay. It seems I'm still here? Good. Onward: What has the word come to when seeing certain words, which usually are used on DAILY BASIS by just about each and everyone of us, WRITTEN somewhere suddenly is too much to take? Is the psyché of someone really so fragile that he/she simply can not stand seeing these words without falling apart? Jesus, people: GROW UP! and stop being such whiny hypocritical babies! Oh no! Now I said Jesus! I'm so sorry for insulting the very basis of all j00's religions and holy beliefs who aren't christian! Please do not report me to a mod. .... Okay... *phew* Now that I got that off my chest: I despise the people who throw around their precious "freedom of speech" and think it okay to behave like an ass. Cursing, profanities, insults? Not necessary. Please learn to behave. Grow up. It is only because of YOU that we need something like censoring! Is it so hard to behave? I doubt it. Hmmm... I got so annoyed back there that I forgot the point I was supposed to make. Oh well, you carry on the discussion. I'll be back later when I recall what I forgot. Ps. Please try to separate a rant from a flame.
Agen
Hmmmmmmmm, I've never been done in @ LF for swearing or actually ever get reported at all (maybe the odd flame of an ass though) If someone is constantly reporting you, chances are it's someone that has a grudge against you and is reporting you all the time just to purely annoy you. Darklighter
Some people just get offended by using certain words. I rarely swear, never on here anyway. Some people are just more sensitive than others with things like this.
ET Warrior
I'm confused by your poll......what do i choose if i think censoring is fine with me?
Luc Solar
If someone is constantly reporting you... No, that's not the issue. There are no grudges. I'm a nice guy! Some people just get offended by using certain words Yes. This is partly what I was talking about. It's ridiculous. I too could go out and demand everyone to stop using green clothes, because green reminds me of my ex girlfriend and I really miss her...seeing green makes me feel blue But I don't do that do I? Feeling sad when seeing green is just stupid and it is *my* problem. *I* need to grow up or shut up or better yet: both. Seriously. If you cant take seeing a word that you hear all over all the time... *you* have a problem. Censoring, however, is a different subject. (Noticed the typo I managed to squeeze in the topic? Somehow is always manage to do that. LOL!)
Luc Solar
I think you should go with "Yoghurt", ET Warrior. But seriously: "Rocks" = censoring is cool "Sucks" = censoring is not cool
Darklighter
Though when these words are used in a very negative context designed to insult or upset a person, you can understand why people take offence. Swearing doesn't get on my nerves...double posting does;)
WolfmanNCSU
I voted for yoghurt because its good when its soft serve. I am cool with some censoring. There is just some material that should not be viewed by some people because they will be offended or they are too immature to understand. Although I do not think people should be sheltered from everything as well. But that is a different thought all together.
Darth Simpson
Censoring on the boards? I'm indifferent really. I can stop swearing while posting here, no biggie. If I were allowed to swear however, there's no doubt that I would. Censoring on TV however... Sheesh, I hate that.
Mex
I think that swear-words should be cencored, its rude and offends people. And by the way, Luc if you don't like it that we don't swear, go to a different forum.
SPY_jmr1
ok peoples... here it comes! censoring... the letters I, S, T, H are just that... letters. they spell "sith" yeah... right..... I am one of the most curse heavy people I know... but not here... I dont make the rules, I do follow them, and if need be, inforce them(with bricks! ) I say **** all the time, and **** when its REALLY needed, but does this make me a bad person? ever heard of "I'd rather laugh with the sinners, then cry with the saints,"? also... context helps... a LOT! i've been told that flaming and cursing at someone is allright if they know the person, and know what it means to that person. but if the rest of us dont, its no help... *hint-hint* as for cenSoring on tv... ****, thats ****ing bull****! Skate Boy
I don't curse, but I don't get mad at other people for it. It's ok, but I have heard(Many times) That this(There's another word that spells that word.) is a PG rated forum, and PG movies don't have **** in them. Oh, BTW I voted "Yoghurt"
SPY_jmr1
btw, dont we even get "Yodahurt" anymore? its close.... EDIT: I thought we were PG-13???... ****...
C'jais
Curses schmurses.... It's an offensive world to live in these days. No matter where you look, it's not going to please you. Play Jedi Outcast and you'll find yourself chopping hundreds of humans into tiny, cauterized bits. You're gonna fry, maim, burn, kill and detonate helpless Ugnaughts and Gonk droids. You're gonna get killed, taunted and hacked to pieces yourself. Meh. Turn off the censor and let fate run the show. If a person starts slinging profanity left, right and in everyone's faces - ban him. If people complain about getting offended, look into the matter and warn the perpetrator. If the accusations are baseless, tell them to stick with Simcity. Of course, these are merely my suggestions. The Status Quo cannot be changed in any way whatsoever - right Flanders? Seriously, don't be so territorial and follow the rules unquestionably. If you don't like the fact that we can express our dislike for certain things, go to another forum. Katarn07
Not clear what yougurt means... But some censoring is good. I don't want my little sister who is always being a pest reading over my back, seeing such words as the s-word, and telling on me for doing nothing. Once I was so ticked at a guy, I put in the word f-r-i-c-k-i-n and was suprised it wasn't blocked. I mean on SW Forums, the word crap is blocked. That's stupid! I use that word like, 8000000000 times a day. Although I have switched to the SW equivilent, Sithspit, so my stupid teachers don't yell. They can swear at a student, but we can't say crap??? El Sitherino
personally i could careless either way. but i dont think we should shelter people. also i think tv sensoring is ok until around 7 when little 5 year olds go to sleep from there on i think sensoring should leave. Kain
censorship has ruined one of the best threads, which was the 'Say Something About...' thread. and why? because the modereator told us to stop posting back and forth to the same person, EVEN THOUGH nobody else was even reading the thread most of the time. and most of the time, the censors abuse their power *cough*theguywhoclosedthatthread*cough*i'mgonnabebannedforthatnow*cough*, which sucks ass hardcore. i say down with censorship and take away that power from everyone to censor. if you dont like what it says, dont read it, aight? Kain
this was a double post because my computer is a piece of **** and i had to hit the button like 50 times for it to work. my bad. and i dunno if it does add to points, if so, i'll donate 2 points to someone*to fix it*
Reborn Outcast
I think that people should be allowed to speak their minds BUT I think the main reason why censoring is used is so people can't call others a f-ing n-word. But otherwise.. I know that I shouldn't be my firends and I swear casually sometimes which is how some people are... so it can go either way. Katarn07
Does double posting (I'm sure that was an accident) increase your points???
Skate Boy
I suppose you could censor some words, and not others. That way people could get there way. Like the F word could be, but not the S word.
Katarn07
I could see these words being not censored: damn and hell. Not much there, unless you say "Go to hell" or "damn you". Then we stumble into a bit of a problem.
