IF..there was a bioterrorism Attack...

I don't know that much about what could happen in a Bioterrorism attack or a chemical attack on the USA. I was reading an article on CNN's website about people stocking up on Duct Tape and plastic coverings. This started me thinking...what would I do if this happened???? What could you do?? It also brings up the fact that has the USA Government REALLY prepared us for what to do in these cases...they say to buy some Duct Tape....REALLY! 3 day supply of water. This isn't an earthquake people. I'm not trying to like support a mass panic. I'm just curious as to what you guys would do if there was such a terrorist attack. Would you stay at home and duct tape everything that you possibly could...would you just say Oh well and watch tv? Would you try and take off in your car and head for the hills? Would there be anything we could do? I just don't know and it scares me. So

If there was a Bioterrorism attack...What would you do?

The whole family would meet and hole up in My In-laws basement. Seal off, as best we could, any exterior places where an airborne chemical or organism could penetrate. They are well stocked with water, food and kerosene. There is a stove, wood burning furnace and such in the basement, and plenty of guns and munitions, and plenty of room. It is also located in farm country, so the liklihood of being affected directly by the attack is negligible.

But let's hope it never comes to that! :(

I don't know what I'd do...I have a poster in my room that outlines the following (and it is humorous so sorry for messing up a serious thread):

What to do in case of a Nuclear Attack

1) Keep hands free of small objects such as pens, penicls, cigarettes, etc.

2) Stay away from windows, glass, and large orchestra equipment

3) Upon seeing the brialliant flash of a nuclear explosion, bend over and place you heard firmly between your legs.

4) And then kiss your ass goodbye.

edit: I also live in Columbia, SC...so no major targets here...maybe after Atlanta and Charlotte and Charleston and Greenville have all been wiped out, we'd be considered a target, but by then we'd all have fled the city anyway...

I'd go screaming through the streets shouting "It's HERE" :o

Actually, i dunno what I'd do. If I was in school, i guess they have some program/drill to be safe. If i was at home late at night, then I guess my dad would take control of the situation, and if I was at home with my younger sister and no parents, then i guess i'd flick on the TV and whip up this thread, read you guys' ideas and/or watch some news/tips that might just come on...

Funny you'd say that: In class today we saw a movie on the Cuban Missile Crisis (scary similarity to today's situation with N. Korea and Iraq). Drop what you're carrying, take cover; place your head between your legs; and put your hands on your head. Of course, if you're at ground zero, it won't help much..

Americans are such a cute, strange people.. always afraid of terrorists but not building too many blast shelters :)

WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!

I mean I live in ARKANSAS! THE NUMBER ONE TARGET OF ALL LUNATICS! I mean if your crazy enough to violate sanctions and actually make Weapons of Mass Distruction then of COURSE Arkansas is on the top of the list. I mean look what we have in arkansas. We have...MOUNTAINS and...and...and...A RIVER NAMED AFTER US and...um...HOGS and...and...um...and...WALMARTS! See I told you we were the #1 target on the list! I mean just look at that list!

Now this is sad....just what I suspected. NOBODY really has a clue about what to do if there was such an attack. WTF? Our government is pissing me off lately. They will raise the code to ORANGE...tell us N. Korea *probably* has the capability to blast away CA and...what kinds of preperations do they tell us we can do. Nothing. Kiss your butt goodbye. Forget N. Korea....lets attack Iraq okay? Geezes. I'm sure your parents haven't the slightest clue what to do in the event of an attack either. I'm not supporting us all going and digging little shelters...but really. The government should prepare us. Either they don't have a fricken clue how to help us....so they just ....don't say anything...or they aren't worried. But then why would they warn us of an attack? eh we are all gonna die...:(

Okay, okay, calm down Shannon. ;)

You asked what we would do, in the event. Now, let me tell you what you should do in the event of a chemical/biological attack.

1. STAY INDOORS!

2. Seal off as many window frames and door frames with plastic sheeting or something similar. (Duct tape, plays a role here)

3. You should have already stocked up on at least 3 days supply of bottled water and canned food (Or any non-perishable food item). Also, kerosene, propane, or firewood should be stocked up for source of heat and or cooking flame. Sterno works well too.

4. Avoid contact with anyone who has had prolonged exposure to the outdoors.

5. Do not use tap water.

5. MOST IMPORTANTLY: DO NOT PANIC! The Bioligical threat should diminish quickly over a few days of the attack. The threat is still there but it is minimal. basically, person to person. Chemical attack, may take longer to diminish, but is still able to be dealt with by Hazmat crews and the such. The only really semi-permamant threat is radiation after a nuclear attack. In which case, there is little you can do, to avoid some kind of exposure, because even after years, radiation is still present in enough amounts to burn skin, and cause cancer, sterilization etc.

Basically, be prepared and then stay in your home until the threat is over. Biological and Chemical attacks are actually not as bad as they seem, it is always the panic factor that makes the situation worse than it is. People panic and refuse to stay indoors increasing peoples exposure to the agent and spreading it to others. That's when it will become an epidemic.

Did they have that somewhere that I did not see....or did you get classified army type information?

I work for the department of Defense, so we are constantly drilled and trained in the event of this and that. :D

Who would have thought, it would come in handy. :(

no matter what, i am dead.....

I live in the rotten apple(New York City)

this is the first target any nuke is going to hit.

so before i die i am going to say this in case i do die(which is highly likely)

Goodbye, I've lived my life the way i wanted to live it and not the way anyone else wanted me to!

anyway, everyone dies sometime. I'm afraid but i will accept my destiny. If i am to die then so be it!

Actually Sardaukar, we have quite a few high numbered targets... but I would not worry about it. Yes we are in level ORANGE, and there has been tons of chatter. I have heard lots of security chatter and issues from work, which I am not going to share and sound really scary, but it is nothing to worry about and does not effect our daily lives. Use common sense, dont panic, and pay attention to happenings. Thats all you need to do.
