Sherack Nhar
...and it's only 9:15 AM as I'm typing this. Right now I should be getting on the train that would take me to the college, as usual on Monday mornings. Instead I'm at home posting this message. Let's start from the beginning. I wake up at 7:00, as usual. Took a shower, getting ready for my big day (I finish at 5:00 PM). Ate breakfast. Everything goes well...until I remember that I have a math test this morning. I didn't study. People who know me should be aware of my... limited math skills. In other words, I almost failed the last high school math (which would have prevented me from going to Computer Science) as well as last semester's math. I'm simply incompatible with math. It's like teachers are trying to install Mathematics for MacOSX in my head and I'm running on fricking Linux. Anyway. Back to my story: I remember that I have a test this morning at 10:00 and didn't study. I'm telling myself it's not too bad, it's not the final exam and I can always review my notes on the bus, or train, or both. That would have worked... ...if the bus had come. I wasn't late. The bus was supposed to come at 8:25. I was already waiting at the stop in the cold at 8:20. Like every morning. And the bus wasn't late either; I waited there until it was 8:35. At that point if the bus had come I would have missed my train anyway. That's when I started panicking. The math exam was counting for at least 15% and at most 30% of the final mark. I *had* to attend it... it was explicitely stated on the course outline that make-up tests and projects are not available. If you miss, too bad buster. 'No problems', I thought after calming myself down. 'I'll just run back home and call a taxi that will take me to the train station quickly.' So I started running back home. However I forgot that it was freezing outside. **Little biology crash course** You may or may not be aware of it, but lungs have a very bad reaction when coming into contact with cold air. When you breathe through the nose, there's a device that warms up the air before it is being sent into the lungs. But when you're doing cardiovascular activity, you start breathing with your mouth, which cannot warm the air properly. That's why you should never do cardiovascular activities, such as running, in cold environments. So yeah. When I started tasting blood in my mouth I decided to slow down... I'd be a little short on time but I could still make it if the taxi driver was fast enough. But the panic had come back. I finally saw my house. I knew my mother was still there so I decided to take the front entrance. My hands were freezing. The door was locked. I reached for my keys and unlocked it. I couldn't even feel the metal anymore... I tried pushing the door but it appeared to be frozen. ****ing door. I knocked, but in my panic I couldn't afford to wait for my mother to open. I started banging on the door with my shoulder. "Open, OPEN!!" I thumped with my shoulder again. The frost finally gave in. Or rather, the wooden frame gave in. Little pieces of metal were sent flying through the hallway... right in front of my mother, who was looking at me like I was some kind of maniac who had just broken into the house. In fact, that's pretty much what I was at that precise moment. It's hard to explain, but a whole part of the frame around the door had come off and was on the ground before me. I had totally messed up our front door... I thought it was the cold that had frozen the door, but it in fact in my panic I simply didn't turn the knob all the way in. Anyway.. I told my mother what happened and apologized for the door. I told her to call a taxi quickly, so that at least I could attend my test... All my luck: the lines were busy. I checked my watch... Too bad buster. Whew...After calming myself down a little, I called my math teach to tell him I would not be able to make it. He said that maybe we could arrange something. I had, after all, been a good student so far (I omitted to tell him that I didn't do any of the homework so far). So yeah, that was my morning. Now it's 9:45... took me half an hour to recount all that happened o_O I'm glad the teacher may give me another chance... I don't know what we're going to do about the door, though! I feel so bad about it!

Treacherous Mercenary
Sounds like a very hectic morning there. Haven't had anything that crazy happen. Of course I'm not in college yet either. But for math... I work better at math than classes like English anyway.
Havoc Stryphe
*Imagines mental picture of Sherack breaking down a door* giggles What was the door frame made of, balsa wood? jk Well, I'm glad it looks like you'll still be able to take the test, sorry you had to go through all that, Sher! But just remember, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, or at the very least strong enough to bust doors down!

Tie Guy
Sorry, sher, i sorta know what you mean, though. I always get up at the last minute and rush out the door with zero time to spare. I'm glad I drive to school instead of taking a bus/train. And i definately know what you mean about Math. I'm really more of an English/language guy than a math guy, but i like computers and want to do Computer Science. I went to VA Tech a while ago and the CompSci track has 22 math courses. I want to be a programmer, but i don't see why so much math is neccessary. That being said, i'm making an A in Math, but its only Pre-Cal. It doesn't click like English does. Oh well, nothing i can do, really.

Oh well, nothing i can do, really. My Computer Science program only has two pure math courses, and they aren't even Calculus level math. Just stuff FOR computer science, such as stats and binary numbers, and the likes. God, this day was so weird. I FINALLY took a bus to the station at around 11:35. About halfway there, when we got to a certain intersection, the bus came to a full stop. *silence* He turned around to face his passengers and said those horrifying words: "Uh, do I turn left now or is it later down?" Now. I don't know about you, but knowing that the guy currently driving the bus I'm in doesn't know how to get to his destination kinda freaks me out. Anyway, we didn't get lost (thanks to the passengers who were directing the driver!) And BTW nl_ackbar, my images in your threads actually had something to do with your topic

Artoo
@ Sherack - Poor you. @ NL - Huh? @ Homer - That's how I feel when trying to explain to my parents my normal daily activities. Heehee, Sorry there is so much anti-math semitism on these boards. I LOVE MATH!!! I love how it works, I love the way numbers interact with each other to do things. It almost seems like magic to me. Also makes me wonder how people can't get it. But to each his own, to each his own. English for me is definately a different matter. Admiral Odin
Good way to annoy a Math Teacher is to question imaginary numbers. Say something like this: Since Imaginary numbers are imaginary, then why can't I imagine that my answer is correct?
