E3 Video Clips coming soon!

Recommended Posts

How's everyone doing? I just walked out of the LucasArts booth here at E3. In my opinion, Knights is easily the strongest title LucasArts is showing. Since I last saw it, the game has been fine tuned and improved in countless ways. Later tonight, I hope to post some E3 impressions... and come Monday, expect to see some new video clips that we managed to obtain.

More later....

Glad to hear it, Zero! I shall wait with baited breath! ;)

All things considered, if Knights is the strongest title going for Lucasarts, in your opinion, that says a whole lot for the game. I was already crazed with anticipation, now it's just plain insanity!

That, coupled with Gamespot's apparent boo-boo concerning an extra planet for the PC release. (By the way, Nice catch, Hannibal!) Waiting for the PC release will be a personal hell! :p

But, thanks to the diligence of everyone here, almost daily, we are rewarded with updates, new material, or new plot points. So hopefully, the wait will go as quick as any wait for something as unreal and utterlly amazing as Knights would go. :(

*sets up camp and impatiently waits for the new E3 material...*

56k people are the only ones that matter. The rest of you all just stink.

:p

So Zero(don't know exactly what to call you ;)), when can we expect this video or videos?

*tries not to sound like a whiney KoTOR freak* :p

I'm going to finish writing my impressions tonight, and post them either Monday or Tuesday.

The first video should go online Monday night. We have quite a bit of footage, so we planned on chopping it up in three parts. For people with 56k, we may make a few smaller clips that are easier on the bandwidth.

I was at e3 with zX and shot the video footage you guys will see soon and I can say that this was among the best of LucasArts at e3 this year. It's clear that Bioware has invested their hearts and souls in making KOTOR a great game. KOTOR looks like it will set a high watermark for Star Wars games and RPGs in general. Anyways, you guys will see our video clips soon...I hope you enjoy them!

It should be noted that I have never claimed to be an RPG fan, and generally am stand-offish when it comes to games that require planning and strategy. I guess I prefer the trial-and-error method of adventure games rather than the trial-and-lose-half-your-guys-if-you-screw-up style in this type of game :)

However, I really liked how real time fighting was smoothly combined with techniques that would generally be employed in a turn-based game. Combat can be paused and you can control the attacks of other people in your group. I was pretty concerned about how much I could get into this game since I am inexperienced with RPGs, but I was very impressed with what was shown off at the expo. I had the game demonstrated for me twice: Once at the LucasArts booth and again at the BioWare booth :)

I believe I got to see it both on both Xbox and PC, but I couldn't readily tell the difference between the versions from where I stood. Anyway, I was taken through the character selection process (very well laid out for RPG noobs and more experienced people alike), and then shown examples of character interaction, battle, and general walking around and witnessing the eye candy that is KOTOR. All I have to say is that I was impressed with everything that was shown in the demos, to make a long post not so long. I can't do it justice really, but please wait for better coverage by Swoosh and Zx, heh.

To be honest, I liked the read, Metallus. It's especially nice to know that the game will be very friendly to those who haven't played a RPG yet, yet might also have the same interest for hardcore RPGers. Another extreme plus for KotOR, methinks.

So you saw(and played?) some of the combat, right? Could you please elaborate a bit on it? What kind of combat did you see?(blasters vs. blasters, sabers vs. sabers, sabers vs. blasters, melee vs. melee, etc) Is the flow real good? Did it really feel as if you were watching a movie?

To get back a bit about the various styles, would you happen to have seen any blasters vs. blasters fights? If so, how did it look? Did the characters strafe, dodge, hide behind crates and such, or do they merely walk up to each other and exchange shots?

Finally, would you happen to have seen any of the various styles of saber combat?(ie. single bladed, dual wield, double-bladed)

In any case, thanks for the preview. It was a great read, making me anticipate the game even more :D

Yes, thanks for that brief insight, Metallus. Much appreciated.

And thanks for looking into the smaller vid versions for us poor 56kers ZX. ;) Personally I wouldn't have much of a problem with anything up to 10Mb. It depends a lot on the download rate for larger files, though...

From Met's description I assume we saw the same demo at the LEC booth...and unfortunately there was no blaster combat. However, we did see saber combat, and we have video footage of that. Expect that to be up tomorrow or in the next few days. Also, we saw a very nice pre-rendered cutscene that was presumably done by ILM (not sure though). It was a cinematic scene of a space battle that looked VERY cool.

I'm with Met as to not being a big RPG fan, but KOTOR looks very appealing to me. The real time combat is pretty sweet, and it's nice that it's rules based, so that ties it to being an RPG.

KOTOR was playable at last year's e3, and at that time, I wasn't really taken by the quality of the game. It seemed very cumbersome to get around and use force powers, etc. However, this year's version seemed very significantly improved. We didn't get to play the game this year, but just from watching the action unfold it looks a lot better. Definitely makes you understand why some games are delayed. Trust me, it was well worth the delay in release, things seem a lot smoother and therefore, more fun. Expect the videos shortly!

As you may have noticed, there's been a slight delay in releasing the footage.

I'm attempting to have the pop-ups removed from this site and setup the download server so that it can track how many downloads we receive. Since SWK.com doesn't have a filescript in place yet, we're considering using lucasfiles.com as a way to host the file.

For those waiting on the footage... it's coming real soon! My next post in here will be telling you where to download the file! :)

*bows down with Tyrion*

You are the man, ZX. :D

*runs off to watch the video*

Ooohh, two more parts coming! Yay!

And something else I saw on the official forums to add to excitement:

We're also planning on releasing a series of Producer's Cut trailers highlighting specific elements of final game play. Keep your eye on Gamespot for future trailer releases...we're sure you'll be pleasantly surprised.

We have some very generous people all around us. Can't wait for all of it! :)

Man, Zx thanks for getting that video.......some of the character creation part is what I've been wanting to see for a while. ;)

I also like how the camera seems to rotate around 360 degrees.....a great feature. :)

I can't wait for the other two. :D
