Girls and games...

With the recent return of Frenchy, it time for some girl talk :D

So today I was on Counter-Strike (I do that too often), and one guy asked what we tough about girls playing CS. I was like, 'cool, why not?', but everyone else was...erm..very discriminating. It was all like 'No they talk too much' and 'As long as they shut up and show some tits' and off course 'No because they suck at it'.

Two days ago, I was playing CS again. There was someone named Lotte, a girl's name. Now I'm no saint or something, but I was shocked by the stuff the 'males' said to her. I won't write it down here. Just think in the direction of 'Pussy pussy dick dick suck ****'. And she wasn't even that bad at CS.

Now I have two questions:

1: Can girls play games? And I don't mean The Sims or something, that's no game, it's a Tamagotchi. And if they can (which I'm sure of), why don't you see them more often?

2: Why are must CS players acting like sexually fustrated retards?

> Can girls play games?

Sure, they can. But they are made outcasts if they do. Not only by guys like you described, but also by girls. You should think that it's different nowadays, but girls still can't be interested in technology or PCs or ultimately computer games. They grow up to be afraid of complex games, I guess. My mum plays Solitair and Mahjongg on the PC, Tetris on the GameBoy, my sis played Bomb Jack on our C=64 and Super Mario Land on GameBoy... Beyond that? Dunno, but some day I'm gonna show my mum CMI (I only have the English version right now, so that'd be a little hard for her...) or MI/MI2 on ScummVM.

> Why don't you see them more often?

See above.

> Why are must CS players acting like sexually fustrated retards?

Because they are?! No, seriously I think the Counter-Strike 'community' has the problem that there are lots of really, really hard-core players. That creates lofty attitudes. Although I liked the game I haven't played in a long time, because of people who play 24/7. I don't mind being on the lower half of the score board, but it's just not fun being fragged and always going like "Did he cheat or is he really that good?". I'm also fed up with servers that only run de_dust.

hahahaha

I remember when I was like, 10 and played the first Diablo. Guys would figure out I was a 10 year-old girl and flip out. ahaha

The main reason girls don't play games is probably because it's socially unacceptable. Girls aren't supposed to be computer nerds, I think.

And I can't count the number of times I've been asked to show my boobs when I'm online.

Anyways,

I don't see what playing an online game has to do with being a nerd. I think the kids that sit around and play D&D, and have a sack full of different dice, or own 50 decks of "Magic the Gathering", are far scarier, more socially unacceptable mega nerds, but that's just my opinion.

I actually read something on CNN a while ago that claimed "60% of College Females play games online, whilst only 40% of Males do", with the same 'statistics' for console gaming too.

Of course, this study was clearly a complete lie.

I also agree with Alien. I like Counter-Strike, but the people who play it are generally complete and utter asshats.

That's another thing I've been wondering: how the hell do they suppose you show them your boobs? If there's a CS mod that features naked chicks instead of sweaty Terrorists, please show me :D (yes, I am sexually furstrated. You get it from playing too much CS).

Anyway, another thing I noticed is that it seems the better someone is, the more of an ******* he is. I don't mind being called a n00b (cause I'm still one), but if I'm called a n00b along with the advice to go suck someone private parts, it usually by a '1337'. God I hate those people. It's a game losers.

Anyway, I'm gonna play CS now :D:D:D Cya!

I don't get open discrimination from other gamers (mainly because I don't do multi-player because of a slow modem), I just get plain ol'disbelief. I got that when I was buying the expansion pack to Warcraft III. A guy (supposedly a "hard-core gamer," from what he told me) saw me picking up the box and said, "Hey, you know that game has a lot of killing and blood in it, don't you?" When I told him that yes, I knew that, and I was actually a big fan of Warcraft III, his eyes popped right out of his sockets and he said, "But...but...you're a girl!"

Thank you for noticing; I never would've known.

I did actually get one request to "show my boobs" at a LAN party where we were playing Descent II...I fragged the guy to pieces. He didn't ask again. :p

And Deadmeat, I think the reason CS players act like sexually frustrated retards is because they couldn't get a date in real-life to save their lives.

I've noticed that a lot of the people who play CS are racists and sexists. I remember I befriended a player on CS named xJamiex (or something like that) when were playing the CT team on assault. Well, the guys on T gave her some serious sh*t. Terrible stuff they said. I had a serious flame-off with them and, by the way, me and Jamie kicked some serious butt (her ratio was something like 24-5)

Also, when someone found out that another player on my team was black, they said probably the most horrible things I've heard in a while. They were saying stuff in the direction of....ugh, I can't even give you the general idea.

On numerous occasions this has happened. That's why I tend to play in servers with a ban or things like that.

Anyway, about your questions. Can girls play games? You freakin bet. And don't just stereotype them as 'dikey' girls who can play games. You wouldn't believe how many rediculously attractive girls I know of that play stuff like CS.

You usually don't see them playing often, though, because of their gender's lack of interest in it. I'm not saying that girls never wanna play, its just that their gender group sort of puts a predisposition on girls as geeks if they play games. So, by the way they've been brought up, they tend not to sway to FPS's and TPS's.

Fin. :p

Ages ago, I played Worms 2 (I said ages ago) over the internet. it was about four of us with one girl. I'd changed all the weapons and options and stuff to suit me so I'd know what to expect and use them to my advantage (like a prod that could hurl you off the screen and a minigun where every one of it's 50 bullets sprouting an explosion as big as a holy hand grenade, wish I could do that on WWP). no one knew what to expect. the girl still kick our asses (and I'm pretty good, undefeated before then). Girls can play, and shouldn't be insulted like that.

The fact that people can be that was is amazing, and terrible. Girl's are just as good at games as men are. Why couldn't they play games? Who really cares if they do?

@Neil I've done it on WWP, Set double damage mode, extra powered explosives, and high power explosives on and you got a game :D Then use Armagedeon and the entire board is gone. :p

Fun stuff. I tried to get WWP on my new laptop today but the disk was corrupt bit so I'm gonna re-burn it.

Of course girls can play games, and sometimes can be far better than guys. It really isn't a gender issue at all. If anything, a lot of girls aren't interested in video games because society tells them it's not a girl thing. I got into video games myself because my twin brother really liked them, and he introduced his favorite titles to me, too. Pretty soon I owned my own Playstation and a ton of RPGs and things. I prefer RPGs (don't like shooters or stuff like that), but I also play occasional adventure games (that's like Legend of Zelda, not puzzle adventure games; it's kind of annoying trying to differentiate between the genres :p but the terminology really depends on what people use in the circles you hang out in) and platformers and stuff, too. I really love the Spyro the Dragon series, for example. (So prettyyyy! And don't call me girly for saying that either, because my brother agrees whole-heartedly. :p We have very similar taste in games.)

I don't play many online games. Really, the only one I've played is Phantasy Star Online. In THAT game, you sometimes actually get treated BETTER if players think you're a girl. (Some guys even pretend to be girls, so they'll be treated with more respect.) I've met some guys who just can't get over how cool it is that a girl plays video games. ;) Especially one like PSO where you tromp around killing monsters the whole time.

Being a girl gamer actually gives you a special status. You're rare, and guy gamers seek out your company. I have a bunch of gamer guy friends in RL who are really nice, but there aren't too many girls in their group. So they like having me join them for gaming parties and anime viewings and stuff. Oh, and believe it or not...the gamer girls I DO know are attractive. Seriously. Girls don't play games only when they're outcasts of society. They play them because they're fun.

Oh yeah, and let's not forget Dance Dance Revolution. Most of the really good players I've seen are guys, but that just means you get all the more attention when you're a girl who plays it. Plus, DDR keeps you in shape. If you're good at it and play it enough, you're not going to be the stereotypical fat gamer nerd, I can just about guarantee you that. Plus, girls who play are rare enough that we tend to get a LOT of attention if we're even half good. (Occasionally little teenybopper girls will try it out, play only the bounciest and most annoying song, and totally suck at it. But anyone who actually TRIES gets a bit of respect.) Last weekend I played some DDR at a location that apparently doesn't get many good players. Even though I'm only average in ability, I got a bunch of guys applauding me. It was fun. :D

Pure hilarity!!!

Anyway, my other half is into games big style, however I'm trying to introduce her to some games I'd like her to try playing now and again. They are:-

1) The washing machine

2) The dishes

3) The duster

4) The hoover

These are all GREAT games, I'm just sick of playing them by myself everyday while trying to work too!!!! I've even tried getting her to play these games in two player mode, but it never lasts.....sigh!

That pretty much sums it up. That counts for the gaming society itself too *points to earlier comments* Why would you want to join a society that would rather reject you? What fun is that?

Number two kinda answers itself ;)

PC Zone once did a great feature on girl gamers... apparently there are lots of clans and stuff. It also said that women think in 2D, or something. :) Anyway they had some girls who had never played games before try out a few titles, and it seems that most of them preferred Grim Fandango over Quake and Half-Life. Amazing, eh?
