I just built a PC, its pretty fun, and easier than it seems. ;)

And theres nothing we can really tell you for part wise. It depends on how much money you have to buy with. ;)

Anyways, I got a lot of good deals at a COmputer Convention, so if theres one near you, stop by for the next show. ;)

Thanks guys. I'll probably have about $1000-1200.

I'm gonna get an ATI Radeon 9400 for the video card. All I need is the tower. I got a moniter and mouse and stuff like that, but the speakers may be replaced;) I don't see a convention coming around anytime soon(my dad works at the LV Convetion center), so any other suggestions for where to get the parts?

I calculated one up that cost about $600-700 usd.

amd athlon 2600

radeon 9600 pro

some asus motherboard (forgot which) with 10/100 LAN. (if you want/have network)

cheap keyboard, optical mouse

17" flat monitor (look for used - much cheaper)

512mb pc3200 ddr 400mhz system memory

60/80gig hard drive

Its an ok gaming 'puter.

I posted this over at my clans forums... somone wanted to know a good setup... anyways, it might direct you in the right path

A mistake I always make when upgrading is getting second class becaus its 25-75 dollars cheaper... dude, spend the extra and it'll last longer, period.

Also, I really like Athlons XP+ series... I have a +2000 and my bro has a +2400... with enough ram these cards work great... I got 640 DDR and I have near perfect perfomance in ALL games.

here is a fairly good setup:

GB or ASUS Mobo... make sure you get an AGP slot, afew PCI slots and it should have at least 1 gig of memory avalible.

GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 256MB DDR (awsome card)

ATLEAST 256, but 512 is a good amount of DDR ram for your system.

A 19" monitor ownz, but make sure your desk fits it... you dont wanna see my monitors setup :o

A burner/DVD players is nice... if you wanna go the extra you can get a DVD burner, but I'd wait and let the prices drop a bit. (I saw

a 16X dvd, 48X CD-R/RW and 52X CD-ROM drive at CompUSA for only $49.00 )

A floppy disk (You'll want this, or regret it when you have a problem and gotta go through DOS... Trust me.)

Get yourself ATLEAST 1 Case fan, heck, they go for 5-10 bucks EASY, get 2.

A good quality CPU fan is always nice compaired to a lowend one...

40-80 GB Hard Drive is good, but you can get a 120-200 for not much more...

Get a Big Case(better cooling) with a good 400(or close) WAT Power supplie.

I think with those ideas in mind you'll do OK.

P.S

Try http://newegg.com (good prices of just about everything)

Actually, I was gonna do that, but they look crappy, and the satisfaction of building it myself won't be there. Cheaper too.

YAY!

I am fullfilling my goals in life: Make people laugh & give people s**t for no perticular reason.

A friend of mine tried to make a comp and I think it went to hell...

That was when I was at his place, then he gave me a virus and a burnt copy of galactic battle grounds expansion, I don't know how he did it though, so my comp was stuffed & I had to take it into town to get fixed.

I would go with an Intel chip. They run cooler and are a lot easier to over clock so you can get more bang for your buck. Stay away from mother boards that have everything built in. As in on board video/sound/lan it's better to get seperate peices.

Asus and Abit and MSI are all great boards. Creative makes great sound cards.

Mushkin, Corsair,Crucial make great ram. You will need at least 512mg if you run XP. 256 is on the ragged edge to run XP.

I run an Intel 1.8A chip that over clocks to 2.7. Thats 900 free mhz
