What 5 DVD's would you take ...

OK, just like I saw the 'Favorite CD' turn into 'stuff I like', the same is happening in the Favorite Movie thread. It is understandable - it is hard to pick the ONE fave.

So - if you could take only 5 DVD's with you, so to the proverbial desert isle, what would they be? If they aren't on DVD, that's ok, pretend (like the SW OT). Couple of rules though - box sets or collections count per DVD. In other words, the SW OT is 3, LoTR is currently 2, Matrix 2, Indy is 3, and so on. If a movie is long enough to span 2 DVD's (LoTR 'special editions', for example) you can do that as one.

Here we go (no particular order):

1. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

2. Real Genius

3. Marx Brothers - Duck Soup

4. Kirosawa's Ran

5. Star Wars Attack of the Clones

Boy ... even 5 is tough. The desire to put in 'runners up' at each line is tempting, as each one represents a person/time/genre, and many good films had to 'lose'.

What about you?

In no particular order:

[*]A night at the Roxbury

[*]Monty Python and the Holy Grail

[*]Ice Age

[*]LotR; Fellowhip extended version (Just the movie)

[*]SW; Attack of the Clones

I think thats it ;). I can think of lots of other movies I would like as well, but I cant have each and everyone now, can I?

LOTR don't make my list this time.

Blade Runner was a tough one to not have on the list as well ... whereas LOTR, as much as I love them, was easily tossed aside. I guess it comes down to what are your catharsis films - ones that changes you, or you quoted stupid lines from forever ;) ...

3. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

That's two for Indy and the Last Crusade. Why that vs. the original Radiers? I liked Last Crusade better than Temple of Doom, but neither of them compares to the original for me ... at least as seen in the theaters back in the 80's.

5. the original star wars trilogy (not the special edition)

Ahem. That's 3 movies. Pick one.

6. Matrix Revolutions
Not going to sweat that it isn't on DVD yet ... but it is #6 on a 'list of 5'. It stays home ;)

Interesting. Maybe it is a generational thing. I remember seeing Temple of Doom and being pretty let down (Raiders was a mega-fave), and Last Crusade

The topic is dvds not movies. So I'll just put the OT onto one dvd so I can watch them all.
I know, but then you'd have to compress them and lower the quality so you wouldn't be able to fully enjoy them as your DVD player was choking on sand on the desert isle ;) Just wondering - which of the three is your fave?

The SW OT aren't on DVD yet either. You did state 'If they aren't on DVD, that's ok, pretend (like the SW OT).' But dude, who really care if it #6? It's all pretend anyway.
:D I forgot my wink for that one ... it is just showing how hard it is to pick 5 movies ... even for young guys like you :p

  • MP: The Holy Grail (brave, brave sir robin!)
  • Wrongfully Accused (hilarious parody of The Fugitive)
  • Bowling For Columbine (i've said this before: Michael Moore is a genius!)
  • The Gladiator (really cool movie)

and, yeah, this might change every week :D
