Alien426 Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 CGW's January issue had the full games Deus Ex, Thief 2 and Warlords Battlecry. There was a lot of confusion and complaining about the medium they were on, though. CGW dared to introduce the DVD to American PC gamers! In Europe (or more precisely in Germany) it's common for the magazines to offer (monthly!) DVDs on the cover. They are loaded with videos (game / movie trailers, game reviews...), demos, mods and the likes. I'm wondering if there are in fact so few Americans who own a DVD drive.
Sivy Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 I'm from outside the USA and have a DVD drive. i think games on DVDs will become more common soon.
Ray Jones Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 dvd will never be as successful as cd, it will be gone "soon", replaced by "non-mechanical" medias.
Skinkie Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 Man I live in the US and have 3 DVD drives on 3 different computers, how's that for awesome?
SamNMax Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 I'm from the U.S. and I have both a DVD and a CD drive. Yeah, my P.C. kicks ass.
Huz Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 I reckon Americans are just too dumb to cope with having games on DVD. I hear they've only recently grasped the concept of the compact disc in a non-frisbee context, so throwing another identical-looking format into the mix is asking for trouble.
James Isaac Posted March 22, 2004 Posted March 22, 2004 I live in the UK and I have a DVD drive. I usually buy the DVD edition of PC Gamer aswell, which is great
Skinkie Posted March 23, 2004 Posted March 23, 2004 Frisbee's rule.... what? c....d....? d...v...d...?
Alien426 Posted March 23, 2004 Author Posted March 23, 2004 I'm relieved. I now know I'm preaching to the wrong poeple, but there still seem to be a lot of guys who want to juggle with 6 CDs when installing UT2004. A good graphics card is around $200 and a DVD drive $30. You obviously need a lot of video power to run Unreal Tournament, so why not shell out some more bucks to get a decent drive?!

Whoa, Huz, that's some completely awesome unintentional pun action you've got going there.
Guybrush122 Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Unintentional your butt? Dude, you're thinking of "bun", not "pun"....
Feral Posted March 24, 2004 Posted March 24, 2004 Actually, when PC Gamer changed to a monthly DVD, there was outcry that PC Zone weren't offering DVDs... Oh, and I feel this is an unfair battleground, since this board is for nerds who own such items as DVD drives.

Skinkie Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 Amatuers, three computers, each with a DVD-ROM and a CD burner. Let the good times roll.... I need a DVD burner.
Feral Posted March 25, 2004 Posted March 25, 2004 5 computers, 4 DVD drives, 3 CD burners, 2 CD drives...1 Feral. Go me .
Feral Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 My mum's, my dad's, my brother's, mine and a sercer. OK, so they're not mine per sé, but still...
Joshi Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 DVD ROM drive on my PC, CDRW drive on my PC, DVD ROM drive on my laptop, and then a 2 DVD players, but I'm only mentioning them as a filler.
