Kain
So I look at my account yesterday and I'm dangerously close to an overdraft because I forgot about a $20 charge I did a couple days before. Uh oh, so I got throw in $20 to my account, bringing me back from the brink of ****eddom. Yea, so I just woke up and guess what I find! $26 overdraft charge. Yay. Doomie
Ehm... What is an overdraft, could you explain the story more clearly? Sorry, i'm from outerspace you know, so i don't know those words. If you'd explain i'd probably figure out what it is in my language.
--ZeeMan--
overdraft means you tried to withdraw/pay for something and essentially you didn't have enough money in there to begin with. and kain i just realized that SOME funds aren't available until 24 hrs after deposit, but that's usually for paychecks and i wouldn't think it'd be associated with cash but that may have been what happened

Darth Homer
Also, just FYI for the uninitiated, it seems that standard operation procedure for all banks is that they process the largest payment from your account first. Why do they do this? Well, if you would happen to not have enough money for the largest transaction, but could cover all of the smaller payments combined (if they were processed first), this would garuantee that you would get hit by not 1, but MULTIPLE overdraft charges for each payment. To illustrate: say you have $100 in your account (translate that into whatever your local currency is; pounds, francs, rupees, yen, clam shells...). You have the following payments (in this order): $10 gas $5 lunch $20 t-shirt $105 books Bank will process that in this order: $105 books $20 t-shirt $10 gas $5 lunch Thusly, you get 4 overdraft charges instead of only 1. toms
i hate banks. Although i have to say that now that i have moved to internet banking (IF in the UK) things are much less hassle as i can keep an eye on stuff, move money around and set up automated movements without having to deal with idiotic bank staff. Darth Groovy
My bank will not only charge $27 in overdraft charges, but it will charge you $5 a day until you "adjust your account". My favorite bit of crap, is that even if you have enough $ in your account, they will not cash a personal check written to you unless you have at least that amount, plus the minimum balance. What a bunch of crap. Want to hear another good one? They deposit all of your checks on the same day, so if you write one bad check, all of them will bounce, and they can charge you $27 for each check written. Want to put banks out of business? Join a credit union.
