The Seeker
I mean, we have gotten some seriously great games based on this horribly grand war, but come on, can we get some fresh meat on the table? MoH: AA completely blew me away. I mean, it was one of those games that I played three or four times. Same for it's expansions. Call of Duty and it's expansion actually made a great impression on me, but after a single replay, I just couldn't make myself get back into it. When I heard about Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault, I was thrilled at first, but then found myself just plain not caring about the developement or release. And now that it's out, I'm not gonna blow $50 on it right now. The reason is that I'm just kind of tired of playing the squad mate fighting alongside comrades with old weapons against overwhelming odds. I'm not really tired of the FPS genre, just the WWII genre. What I want is a game like Soldier of Fortune 2. A modern day game with modern weapons like machine guns with grenade launchers, pistols with silencers, and a sniper rifle with 20x zoom. I want tons of FPS action thats heavy on mindless destruction and light on stealth and RPG, and tactical team elements ala old school FPS. So, can anyone help me out here? Rattle off some games for me that will let me slay hordes of moron baddies with too many guns for a person to really carry, without moron squad mates getting in my way. Many thanks. CapNColostomy
Military style shooters are bar-none, my favorite type of games. Based on what you said, I'd suggest to you Joint Operations Typhoon Rising. It has an expansion coming out Tuesday, I think. It's pretty fun. Maddmann and I play it every night just about. The player capacity for the servers in that game are crazy. Some have up to 150 players. Also, if you haven't tried it already, get the Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942. It makes all the equipment and vehicles modern, and it's completely free. The final patch for it just came out. It's honestly like having two games for the price of one. The Seeker
Alright, now we're getting somewhere. I just thought of one though. Is Farcry as good as I've heard, and does it meet the requirements that I was ranting about previously? Cause what I'm after is a good Single Player modern FPS, and I've heard that farcry is one of the better ones as of late.

Joint Operations is multiplayer only. And BF just kinda...well, it sucks for single player. The AI is poop. Never played Farcry.

Druid Bremen
Counter-Strike: Condition Zero The Singleplayer mode, called Deleted Scenes, isn't too bad, though most of the time you fight by yourself. And frankly, I'm amazed how a single person (me/you) can fight through a building-full of enemies, only to defuse a nuclear bomb guarded by a group of crazy guys. When voicing my thoughts on FarCry (somewhere else, I believe) I specifically compared it to SoFII, which is one of my favorite shooters as well. I have also liked WWII shooters for some time, but also find them wearing thin. RtCW was fun, MoHAA better, but each of its' expansions got worse. CoD was, as I've said repeatedly, like MoHAA++, like everything in MoHAA but done a bit better. The CoD: UO expansion I liked, but not as much. The MoHPA demo left me a bit flat, kind of blah. And that is about what I've heard from the game - serviceable, but not stellar. And I'm too busy with good games (Baldur's Gate, currently) and upcoming good games (Vampire comes out this week!) to deal with it. So I'd recommend Far Cry whole-heartedly to you. It violates one of my 'FPS annoyances' - throwing mindless monsters at you. But the AI in other areas is really pretty good, and the terrain and open 'feel' (yes, it is still linear, it just looks more open) make it a very fun play - though some areas a re really pretty tough. The levels are a decent size, and outdoors especially you're usually not constrained to a single path to reach your objective. You can also mix up your tactics, and use stealth if you wish (if you get a silenced SMG). You can also use the physics to good effect, rolling barrels at enemies, or toppling cabinets on their heads. I found driving the vehicles to be fun as well. I certainly felt it was one of the better shooters to materialise in recent years - and it was a decent length (took me over 20 hours). You need a beefy graphics card to be able to appreciate all the eye candy - but I ran the game on an Athlon 850Mhz with 256Mb RAM and a GeForce FX5900 at a playable framerate (particularly with the indoor sections). If you're not sure about it, try the demo first.

Alegis
Lately its been the Vietnam rage, but WWII is still going on... Modern combat is getting a bit more popular (BF2 will rock indeed)... Even though the genre is the same good games of the WWII genre differ from each other. COD was fantastic (and is totally different from RTCW in almost every aspect) I want a WWI Fps game As pilot shoot the other pilots with a luger and throw bombs yourself. Now that would rock in MP. And a MP with +100 people where you just run to the other side while getting slaughtered by machine guns

I sneaked up on a few guards to machete them to death. I also sniped at enemies in a camp (from cover) with a silenced SMG set to single shot - and they were running around in a panic trying to find me. Also, it is possible to sneak past some camps without being seen (if you don't want to enter into combat). So yes, stealth is possible. Of course, when you get to the Trigens, stealth goes completely out the window.
acdcfanbill
Yea, i thought Far Cry had a really good SP component, better than its MP. Stealth was possible, but i normally just went around and slaughtered ppl, and well, got slaughtered alot my self, cause the head on battles get tough lol

The Seeker
Got the farcry demo downloaded. I'll give it a spin tonight and see what I think. Odds are, we have a winner. On the subject of good games, has anyone played "Ratchet and Clank: up your arsenal" for PS2. That game is IMO better than the first two, which is a tough thing for a sequal to do.
