Acrylic
Well, I gave in. A couple days ago, I bought Final Fantasy Origins, Chronicles, and Anthology which contain: I II IV V and VI (and Chrono Trigger, but this is a FF thread:p) . . . . Ad . . . . . Was covering my words . . . . . K. Good . . . . . Anyways, I thought I'd spend a little bit of time playing each game a little bit. I played about 20 minutes of each game at least...except for Final Fantasy IV. I am completely in love with that game right now. I got bored after playing Final Fantasy I and II after a few minutes, I haven't gotten too far in V, so I can't say too much, and VI looks just plain AWESOME, so I'm building up the suspense of that game for not playing for a while. (Then after this, I'm gonna replay Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX, and X, then after I beat X, I'll go out and buy X-2) Anyways, is anyone with me that says that IV is a really fun game? Compared to the Final Fantasies before it (I can't really comment on III though, since it's not out in the US), I say this is a REALLY great game. Most possibly a turning point in the series. Well, that's about it for me right now, I'll leave you all to discuss which old (Pre Playstation) Final Fantasy Game is the best, worst, and which you think is really good. And also, Ill leave you all with a pic of my FF collection:
Samuel Dravis
I played FF Adventure for Gameboy. It was a looong game, but fun. And the end was extremely difficult if you hadn't prepared.

Well, if you have the chance, I really recommend you get Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy Chronicles to start you off. I'm almost positive you'll love IX, since I really did. And I also think you'll love FFIV, since I am totally in love with that game. (Again, I cant comment on CT, sicne I haven't played any of it yet)
ZBomber
Yeh, FF VII kept me hooked for a logn time, so I think I'll like the others. And, PS games are pretty cheap, I can probably get them from 5-10 bucks.

All I know is that in my area, game prices are as follows (new): FF Origins - $15 Chronicles - $20 Anthology - $20 VII - $15 VIII - $20 IX - $20 And that is, if you can find them. BongoBob
I've been playing a rom of FFII I believe, it's the one with the main character Cecil. 'Tis good fun I HAD FFVII and VIII, but my 1 and my brother when he was a year and a half old decided to try to take out the disc in my PS, which just happened to be the first disc of VII, and I was only about 30 minutes into the game. Then I was all the way on disc two or three of VIII when the discs got lost One day I will buy them, but right now I got's no money, and if you've read my thread you'll know I won't have any for a while

'Tis good fun WEll, in America, they called it FFII for some reason, but the real thing is called FFIV. And yes, it is GREAT fun. The most fun I had playing a game since...God knows when... EDIT: I really don't know WHY FFIV was called FFII, but once they re-released it for Playstation, they correctly called it FFIV.

Mike Windu
EDIT: Some mixed up info >> From what I can recall of a Game Informer mag: They called FF4 FF2 in the U.S. because it was the 2nd FF at the time. In Japan they already had 4 of em out. Final Fantasy I Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy II rerelease with easy mode (the one that got to the U.S.) Final Fantasy III in the states is VI- in Japan Final Fantasy III - Jap only...? Final Fantasy IV Final Fantasy V Final Fantasy VI - stateside, I don't recall what it was in Japan, or even if my data is 100% correct. Final Fantasy VII Final Fantasy VIII Final Fantasy IX Final Fantasy X Final Fantasy X-2 Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Final Fantasy - Dawn of Souls - I and II Final Fantasy Tactics Final Fantasy Tactics Advance Final Fantasy Anthology - V and VI Final Fantasy Chronicles (I forgot what they contain, Acrylic can clear it up for you) Other SS games (I say SS cos I don't much about Enix' games) worthy of mentioning: Kingdom Hearts
txa1265
Being that I'm not - and never have been - a console gamer, I'd not played any FF games until recently. I had picked up FF Tactics Advance for GBA based on the reviews, but the amount of time to do anything exceeded what I was willing to put in in any session. But my wife got me a Nintendo DS for Christmas, along with FF I & II (yeah, I know, they're GBA games ... ), but I've been playing them for a while now and enjoying them. I've heard that FF III and/or Chrystal Chronicles will be coming to DS this year. I'll keep an eye open. Mike
Astrotoy7
*Rides in on Chocobo* Acrylic ! You have omitted the AWESOME Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1.... tis rare, but a gem indeed ! For ALL your FF info, guides, pics/media (also includes section on other square games liek Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and Kingdom Hearts....FF EXTREME is one of the webs best FF/Square pages... I havent played FF3 or FF4. FF6 is awesome. I know many crazed FF fans who will get violent if you even suggest that any of the other FF games are better my fave is FF9 of course. mtfbwya
Acrylic
Originally posted by Mike Windu Final Fantasy Chronicles (I forgot what they contain, Acrylic can clear it up for you) In Chronicles, it's kinda of weird, because they have a non-FF game. In the package is FFIV (I am in love with this game right now) and Chrono Trigger (which I hear is a great and epic game in itself.) I've heard that FF III and/or Chrystal Chronicles will be coming to DS this year. III is supposed to come to the DS, and if it does, it'll be my sole reason for getting a DS (well, if they don't have any other good games out by then ) And Crystal Chronicles is supposed to come to DS, but I really wasn't thrilled with the Gamecube version. I really don't know how to play it, and it's super boring. Acrylic ! You have omitted the AWESOME Final Fantasy Tactics for PS1.... tis rare, but a gem indeed ! My cousin has been pestering me to get Tactics. He really loves it alot, so, I'll get it one day (when I can find it). I havent played FF3 or FF4. I HIGHLY recommend you get Chronicles then, since I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend IV. It just has so much color, character, and fun-ness. But I think the only complaint from the general public is that it is too linear. But I don't mind that sometimes.
Rogue Nine
Chrono Trigger is awesome, definitely on par with the best of the Final Fantasy series. I like it more than any other FF I've played on the SNES, and quite a few on later systems. It's an excellent game and well worth all the time you will put into it. FFIX is a mixed bag, really. You either hate it or love it, there's almost no middle ground. I have no great love for it, but I don't really hate it either. Given a choice between the PSX FFs, I would probably play FFVIII first, FFVII second and FFIX last. Tactics has one great overriding function that dictates whether you will love it or loathe it. The battle system is intricate as hell and it can take well over an hour for each to be resolved. If that's your bag, then more power to you. If not, stay away because you will not like it at all. Mex
I loved FF7 and FF8. The rest I didn't like, they started focusing on graphics more than game play. Edit : I just remember when that tomb place in ff7 started collapsing, and that cat thing was gonna get crushed. I started crying because I thought he was dead! But this was like 4 years ago so don't laugh!

If you want gameplay over graphics, get some of the NES/SNES remakes of old FF games that were made for the Playstation, like Chronicles and Anthology. I heard VI has the best storyline from any FF. Mike Windu
I tried FF Tactics Advance. I couldn't get into it. So I stuck with Fire Emblem.

Mike Windu
I tried Fire Emblem first and just fell in love with its simple but complex engaging battles and tactics. Plus, Fire Emblem is INSANELY difficult.
