jon_hill987
What you do is you uninstall McAffee then install some free programs like AVG and ZoneAlarm that do as go a job for free.

El Sitherino
truth is AVG is better than any pay program. Kinda funny...
edlib
McAfee is crap. They used to be really good once upon a time (back before Win 98) but now thier stuff creates more problems than they'll ever fix. I'm with the "uninstall it ASAP and get something else on there" crowd. I use AVG on my 2nd computer. Works fine, no problems yet. I use Norton on this one though. swphreak
I like McAfee a lot more than Norton's Symantec AV. McAfee runs perfectly for me, and I've never had problems with it. You can set it so that is checks for updates at a time you're away so when you come back, you just click the window closed and move on with your life. Doesn't sound 'less prevalent' to me.
BongoBob
FRom a pc mag I have, the one with the softy's... Studies have shown that it takes only 4 minutes for a clean install of windows to get something bad, that's why theres a firewall. AVG rules. Acrylic
I scanned my computer, becuase it was acting funky. We paid for Norton, and in the 1 hour it took to scan all my files, it found nothing. Now, I downloaded AVG, and so far, in 5 minutes, it found 11 backdoor trojans. So, I guess AVG rules.

swphreak
For the heck of it, I downloaded this AVG program and gave it a run. Nothing found... McAfee works for me just fine
Astrotoy7
Just out of curiousity, Acrylic,, are you running Norton AV, or Norton Internet security. There is adifference, especially when it comes to this stuff.... I think the most prudent think to do is to run an AV program, plus a spyware and adware program. Ive even found that spybot picks up things spysweeper doesnt and vice versa. I also highly recommend a registry cleaner, as alot of this stuff leaves registry entries that dont do any help for system start times etc. Tweak registry Cleaner is a great *free* registry cleaning proggie. mtfbwya
