wow, yet another episode of the...

gothy kid who dresses this way to be different because he isnt at terms with himself, gets scorned for being different, then lashes out.

public schools rock dont they?

stupid kids.

I live near a game lan place, my grandparents are old timey and scrutinize me for frequenting the place. Its weird their like expecting me to be violent because of it. Then a reporter from good morning america comes to interview us(at the lan center) and doesnt leave until at least one person says "video games are awesome, I enjoy splattering peoples brains on the sidewalk, it teaches me to be a better killer in real life." She was literally putting words into the middle school-aged kids mouths and totally warping what they say and turning it against them. Making them look bad and evil and making her (and thus, ABC) look better.

And now we want to throw in "violent video games" and perhaps music? Hmm...

Well it was an issue with the Columbine shootings too, I remember they made a huge thing about Marilyn Manson during it. We even had kids suspended for wearing manson shirts.

So I wonder, was this somehow a "copy cat crime"? Or is the media just picking out random things to blame again to make it sound more sinister and sensational? Perhaps we're not getting the full story here.

The latter, it doesn't matter if we're not getting the full story. They (media, parents, police) all look for something to place blame on, in all crimes. But when it's something as big as this people hear about it and eat it up.

For all we know he wasn't even a goth, just those people saw him wearing black clothes and figured him as a goth.

*shrugs*

But none of that really matters, all that matters is why he did it. And from what We hear it's because he had a hatred for those he saw as "unclean".

Such an out of date chart. Not accurate either.

I read about this in the newspaper. Why do school shootings always happen in the springtime? Can't these kids wait just a few months more for school to end and vent their frustrations in a nonviolent way? They'd probably find some other way to commit murder and mayhem, though. :disaprove

My deepest condolences go to those who lost loved ones that day. I hope to God the media doesn't try to go for the "let's blame it on video games and heavy metal" approach. Events like these are too complicated and difficult to just pin the blame on a single outlet of entertainment.

Well, it seems his mental instablility wasn't really his fault, his father commited suicide, so they could have bother been messed up in the heads.

And umm..... Maybe he was a Neo-Neo. Matrix stuff, guns, trench coats, 'do you believe'. :p

But he was just phsyco, not a goth, just phsyco.

Off topic, but I just have to know because I've noticed this a few times. I assume that comment is directed at Marilyn Manson fans. I'm not a fan, but I am curious. Why is being a fan of Marilyn Manson synonymous with being a poser? I mean, couldn't someone say that fans of your beloved Nightwish are posers and be just as accurate in their assumptions as you are? Just curious. For the record, I hate Manson. I hate Nightwish even more. But I don't think that their fans are "posers" just because they like triumphant whiny rock and have crapulent taste.

I guess that someone could say that fans of Goatwhore are posers and be totally accurate? And same thing for *insert band I like here*. It can be said about them all, as long as someone doesn't like a band, then to someone, somewhere, all their fans are idiots/posers.

Back on topic, I hope the parents of the children that died can come through this hardship :(

That's...Right. I was basically saying the same thing. What I wanted to know was why?

Well that's super, you've managed to turn a serious thread about a tragic event into another damned discussion about how leet your music tastes are and everyone else is a poser who listens to crap.

Please, we've all heard it, and it should stop.

Is it me, but you had a kid who's dad had killed himself, his mother had brain damage, he was withdrawn and didn't get on with anyone else, he was teased and picked on, he expressed admiration for hitler and he threatened (though maybe in jest) to kill everyone... shouldn't SOMEONE have taken an interest in a kid like that at some point?

He obviously has had a pretty messed up childhood... you would think they would be keeping a bit of on eye on him to see if he was doing ok.

Personally I think we should do away with the death sentence, but also stop using our tax money to feed and house these prisoners, we should go back to when we made them work for their food and decent sheltering. No more of this lounging around, working out, free tv crap.

I agree. Not specifically from a PUNISH THEM point of view, and definately not in the way it was exploited with chain gangs in the past, but because they could do a huge amount of good for society... building playgrounds for kids, and other worthwhile endeavours. the sort of thing that could make small but sigificant differences to society.

But educate them too so they can do something good when they come out. By all means give gym and tv time to those that work hard, but don't give it by deafult. ANyway... off topic now.. *slaps self*

Is it me or do you not want to go to school in alaska? Or is that cos there are less than 100,000 schoolkids in the whole state????

Kid does shooting...

Blame the games...

If this cycle continues, they will ban our favorite violent video games.

I play violent video games all the time and I never had a thought about hurting anyone. If a person can't tell the difference between fantasy and reallity, it is not the games at fualt, it is the user.

is it just me or is this thread Senate Worthy?

I say hang all the Neo-Nazis. Problem solved.

My take: You can't completely rule out games, violent past, media, or anything else.

I'm not saying GTA causes you to go Columbine. But you know, for better or worse, games do affect you (even more if you're unstable, you know:p).

And so on.

And yeah, Bowling for Columbine is good. One good way to find out if I'm right? Ask the NRA. Anything they love is wrong. Everything they hate is awesome:D.
