SteveBB Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 It looks great, the header is a little empty on the right though
Ray Jones Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 They could've said they would need update to vb3 to rename it to The Harbor again.
edlib Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 They changed the name yet again... What's the difference between "Reply To This Thread" and "Quick Reply"? Oh, I see... quick reply doesn't give you access to smilies and coding and such. Looks nice... running a bit slow for me at the moment tho... It's gonna take a bit of getting used to.
DrMcCoy Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 running a bit slow for me at the moment tho... ...Yep, it's definitely a bit slower... :/
edlib Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 I read in another thread that this has to do with the indexing of old threads that should be completed by tonight. Then it should be faster than the old version after that.
edlib Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Uhh... wherever the server is, I guess. The forum was defaulted to US Central time when I first logged in, if that helps. My guess is that it maens that it will be roughly 12 to 24 hours from the time when the new forum went live.
Joshi Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 I like it... all of it, it has all of the best parts of other internent forums I've been to (gotta love that quick reply) plus a lot more. I also love the new quoteing tags, much easier than putting things in italics and bold and stuff. As for the layout, well it's different and different is fresh, ergo, good. I like this one, it's stretched out for people with higher resolutions. makes the most of the space.
RicardoLuigi... Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Wow...kinda slow and everything is a bit big...and strange...but who cares? This is nice. It's kind of awkward, though, lol. But I can get used to it
Thrik Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Just to reaffirm what edlib said, the huge speed issues at the moment are very temporary and will be a thing of the past soon enough. It was either leave you guys without any forums at all until it's done, or leave you with slow forums. Things will continue to be ironed out for a few days, yet. Edit: Including these default smilies.
Fealiks Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 wow, does look pretty damn cool. who else feels like theyve joined another forum and everyone from the old LFN are there? huh? just me? oh. and another thing.... WHERE THE HELL ARE ALL THE ORIGINAL SMILIES??!?!?! WHAT IS ?! TELL ME!!! ANSWER ME DAMNIT!!!! AAAAAARRRRGGGHH!!!!!!!!! but apart from that its great. oh and.... *humps thrik's leg*
Joshi Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Just to reaffirm what edlib said, the huge speed issues at the moment are very temporary and will be a thing of the past soon enough. It was either leave you guys without any forums at all until it's done, or leave you with slow forums. Things will continue to be ironed out for a few days, yet. Edit: Including these default smilies. I assumed so. The smileys in the advanced reply box seem to be randomly generated though which is cool (as soon as you've put better smilies in obviously, but some of them are pretty good). As for the speed issue, it was only to be expected, big upgrade like this, loads of features (I still don't know what the enhanced mode does), bound to be a tad slow. At least we've got the forums.
RicardoLuigi... Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Just a question...What's up w/the little green/yellow/red dots underneath people's info?
Joshi Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 The green one tells you that people are online (red if they're offline). The yellow one you click on to report a bad post. Just to note, I'm not sure if any difference has actually been made, but things are running slightly faster now (actually a lot faster)
James Isaac Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Just to note, I'm not sure if any difference has actually been made, but things are running slightly faster now (actually a lot faster) Yeah, I think the 'indexing of posts' is finished. Before now every link i clicked gave me a 20-30 second delay before anything happened, but now the site responds practically instantly
matt-- Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Just to note, I'm not sure if any difference has actually been made, but things are running slightly faster now (actually a lot faster) You're welcome. Server load averages just dropped from eight to under one. Edit: and no, indexing is only half way done, but I've stopped it for now and will be resuming it overnight, although I don't anticipate it being anywhere as slow as it was.
Joshi Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Yeah, before, it either took ages or told me there were database problems, now everything comes up much faster. Nice work.
Jake Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 I'll try to put up a slightly less assy forum header in the next week or so. That one is one Thrik whipped together just because I hadn't done it yet.
DrMcCoy Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Shh! I don't want people to think of me like that! ...We already do...
DrMcCoy Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 *looks straight at Joshi* *continues with the brow-wiggling*
