Fealiks Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 yeah you naughty boy once you start its kinda hard to stop oh thank god the normal is back. *wipes forehead*
Joshi Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Why does it only take one post to go completely off topic. More talk about the server change please (else I'll be closin')
edlib Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 OK... back on subject (kinda...) A little experimentation on my part has proven thet the new version of the forum runs far better and far faster in Firefox than IE. (Part of me wonders if this was by design... ) I never belived this was the case on the older version, and as a result this was always one of the few places on the web I almost always came to using IE. From now on I'll only use Firefox to visit here. If anyone still complains about the speed of the forums, be sure to ask them which browser they are using.
Thrik Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Tee, it wasn't intentional. The slowdown in IE is caused by the javascript we have in place to fix the bugs with PNG images that Microsoft haven't bothered to do themselves yet. IE is the only browser which cannot support the smooth blending shadows and such that PNG images allow, hence it being the only that has to have the slow javascript. The plan is to get a better optimized workaround for the PNG issue, since IE won't be supporting them properly until version 7.
edlib Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 Ahh... I see. Sorta. But knowing it's a fault in IE does make a whole lotta sense. Still... it has taken me one more step towards closer to abandoning IE altogether (with the possible exception of viewing MS websites and Windows Updates.) Which can't be a bad thing.
Joshi Posted July 31, 2005 Posted July 31, 2005 I disposed of IE ages ago (if it wasn't for that fact that i need Updates, Microsoft websites every now and then and the fact that it's completely integrates into XP, I'd uninstall it), it's firefox all the way for me. I didn't realise these forums were slightly slowing in Firefox (and faster now, seems about the same to me since the new forums have been faster). But hell, it's all good.
edlib Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Yeah, it's all I use at work, since I'm forced into using Macs there, and I really don't like Safari, and IE for Mac hasn't been updated in decades it seems... and it was never all that good to begin with. The old forum version seemed to draw a bit better for me in IE,.. or maybe it's just what I was accustomed to. There's still a few places I go to often that I will be forced to use IE. (I belong to a couple of MSN groups where none of the formatting options for posting work with Firefox. Go figure. )
scabb Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Pfft to those of you who have inflated your avatars to elephant-size. Think of those poor fops on modems, people. And those poor fops who don't enjoy being eye-raped by giant avatars.
Joshi Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Mine is a bit big, I'm used to my avatar being small... this one scares me. I'm changing it.
Joshi Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Nah, mine seriously made me feel uncomfortable, way too much space. i'm not claustrophobic, it just didn't seem right. Back to the old.
Kjølen Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Pfft to those of you who have inflated your avatars to elephant-size. Think of those poor fops on modems, people. And those poor fops who don't enjoy being eye-raped by giant avatars. It's not the visual size that matters to modem people, it's the file size. And mine is under 5KB, so nya. As for them being eyesores, well you'll have to deal with my Brenna.
Alien426 Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Hey everybody. Look at my avatar! Are you watching? Are you watching yet? Look it's animated. Now that the (file) size restriction has been upgraded I can finally use my Angel avatar (for some time).
Ray Jones Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 More talk about the server change please Uuh, the server changed?
DrMcCoy Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 I disposed of IE ages ago ...Ditto... And I also disposed of Windoze ages ago, who needs that buggy crap?
Ray Jones Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Oh, that's easy. Those who code worms, trojans and viruses. %) Or to countercheck if Wine's working proper.
edlib Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Please. Don't. Please don't turn this thread into yet another "My OS can beat up your OS!" online virtual pissing contest. The web already has well enough of those. Why does it seem to me sometimes that 75% of the web content that isn't devoted to porn is taken up by Mac, Windows, and Linux devotees going at each throats in a way that would make the most radical extremists of each of the world's major religions stop what they're doing and say, "Whoa! Dude! Relax! Nothing's so important to get all that worked up over! Just chill,.. OK?" [/end rant]
DrMcCoy Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 ...I... err... wasn't that serious... I wouldn't go at your throats, for example, it was just amused mockery...
Ray Jones Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Hey, eddie, man, chill. Noone is going to do that. Except McCoy, maybe. But that's OK. We could beat him up then. On a side note, the good thing is one can use any of the mentioned OSs to watch porn. Although, you should use the proper player. You know, with functions like trackmarks, slow-motion, zoom. So let's fight for who's got the player most suitable for porn instead.
edlib Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 Sorry... just a major pet peeve of mine. (Plus, I was partially joking too...) I've seen a lot of threads lately go that route, around here in in other places, and it bugs me. I just don't think I could take another one. I use and like all 3 OSes for different reasons.
Ray Jones Posted August 1, 2005 Posted August 1, 2005 I know what you mean. It's like someone is telling you that you can't drive a car backwards all the time or you have to open the lid for pee and wee. ;D
Jake Posted August 2, 2005 Posted August 2, 2005 Okay new header image is up (you may need to clear your browser cache to see it), except I screwed it up a bit and the loop is slightly off for those of you with large screens. I had marked off the loop points as a layer but didnt ever crop the image. Anyway that will be fixed tomorrow night, but for now, there you go. ... or I fixed it now.
