Me, I am going through about my fifth or sixth time in KotOR II, and when I finally get K2 I will probably go through that the same way. As a lot of other people said, MMORPGs don't have hardly any story. It looks like it has a lot, and I might get it; That is, if not for the bad remarks and comments I have gotten from it, the cost, the bandwith requirement, and the reviews, such as "It has a lot of width but not much depth."

The game is not simple, it is quite complex in my opinion. Galaxies just seems to be a huge "pile" of stuff that doesn't really have a meaning, except for a new way to slaughter a bunch of animals. And all for no point, really, it is all just for being the most "uber" character on the block. And it is NOT a one-time game, as I said before, I have played it many times.

I payed hardly anything for KotOR, I think I am going to pay for KotOR II with a gift card I got to Amazon (costing me nothing), and I will get to enjoy a great game, and great story, without paying monthly for it, and making sure my computer can handle it.

I just got back to K1. So much fun. In difficult mode I die if I'm careless! (unlike K2). The reason I went back: to learn new things from the game, and play in a totally new way, feeling my way around. And in an MMO can you do that? You might, but theres no new story to gain from it.

Recommendation: If you haven't played K1 in a while pick it up again for the chance to die and the big bang theory.

I am going though KOTOR and TSL again for the 3x,starting at KOTOR.

As for SWGs I have a problom about paying to play,it's not like they (LUCUS) never made any money at his Star Wars movies and stuff, now they just found a new way to suck more money out of people.

I am playing BF2 here and there but got board after I got all the unlocks and rank I want,so I am waiting for all the good mods to come out,I have high hopes for CoD2 though, play DOOM 3 alot, waiting for F.E.A.R. to come out also.

Yeah, MMORPGs are weird... being a big Final Fantasy fan of course I gave the 30 day free trial of Final Fantasy XI a try. Yeah it was fun, but it quickly became apparent that the amount of time youd need to put into such a game just wasnt possible or even appealing. Added to this is the fact that you have to freakin pay per month. I often travel, or am working on my postgrad projects where I simply cannot put that time in. Id simply be wasting money.

I have given guild wars a try. Its not too bad, and its free to play online. But at the rate I can find time to play, my character will be leveled up to the max in about 2030 :p

Money they'll use to keep the servers up. I hate it when people make such uninformed statements about MMORPGs in general. Sure, you can refuse to pay-to-play but don't think that the money you pay each month is just so they can raise their profit bar exponentially.

Like every business, LucasArts doesn't have to give charity to gamers.

Well, it is true that they need something to keep the servers us, and the people running them employed. And probably forever, rather annoyingly to them. However, there is a reason that all of the major game publishers are trying to move toward subscription-based services for all their products, and it isn't that it increases their costs significantly. I've heard it called the future of the industry in more than one keynote talk.

Like who? As far as I know, there's only X Box Live that requires subscription-based service outside of the realm of MMORPGs.

Nacho, some people like to be told a story. Something that is utterly lacking in Galaxies and all other MMORPGS, as of yet.

Agrees.

When I play a game I play for the story, something you can't depend on a community for. & these days I'm less interested in MP games, the JO/JA communities really killed that aspect of gaming for me.

^^ You can google for on subscription-based stuff to find lots of articles talking about it being "the future". Or you can head to E3 next year -- it's more fun ;). Here's my "I'm feeling lucky" on the subject.

Interview at Gamezone "The current subscription based gaming market is very diverse and doesn't just involve traditional MMORPG-style games. We are extremely committed to exploring all aspects of subscription-based gaming...(snip marketing blahblah)"

Pick any of the major companies...they're all trying to get a piece of the subscription-based pie, and not just with RPGs. Would you consider Linden Lab's Second Life to be a MMORPG? I don't think it is. How about Sims Online? EA's Club Pogo certainly isn't. How about the MMO strategy games, too?

The game companies certainly want it to be "the future", because it's better for their bottom line. Whether they succeed or not depends on whether we (consumers) buy into it. It's looking pretty darn good for them right now, which is why they keep going. There is, of course, absolutely nothing wrong with game companies making a profit. It's great, because it means more games! But like you said:

Like every business, LucasArts doesn't have to give charity to gamers.

I play on-line quite a bit but never had to pay to play, but I understand SWG's is a bit diffrent but if someone want's to spend 15 bucks a month to play it hey it's your money,me I'll stick with the free stuff.

If the gaming Ind would all switch over to pay to play,I guess I am stuck on SP,it would have to be a real good game to get me to pay to play it on-line.

yeah, I can see how subscription based stuff is indeed going to become a part of the future of gaming...and I realsie it takes $$$ to maintain servers, fix bugs etc.. However, Id be much more likely to give something a go if you just paid for how much time you actually spent on it over a month etc. Thus i fyou actually miss it for a couple of weeks etc, you dont have to fret that you are wasting you money...

I'TS THE BEST DARN GAME IN THE WORLD!!!

NO! The best darn game in the world is strip poker/spin the bottle/nude twister with a bunch of randy cheerleaders :D

How about this:

KOTOR IS THE BEST DARN GAME IN THE WORLD OTHER THAN ANY THING WITH HALF NAKED OR FULLY NAKED WOMEN!

*snort*

I remember that beach volleyball game where the only thing interesting about it was how much 'bounce' they gave the female 'athletes'. Augh! Sometimes it sucks to be a girl gamer. THAT WOULD HURT, OKAY!

Fortunately, I have blocked the title of that 'work of art' from my mind.
