gas prices

Hey did everyone hear that piece of sh*t GW Bush on the TV the other day saying "If don't need gas don't buy it." Hes such a tool. Hey Georgie, bet your not hesitating to fill up Air force One with a ton of GAS, so you can take another useless trip to Texas, or Iraq, or wherever the hell you go. Sorry about my ramblings, I just find George W Bush to be an obnoxious, ultra buffoon. I mean c'mon, shouldn't the president have a higher a IQ than I do.....I guess not in his case.

Not to sound like Im defending GW or anything, but would you be saying the same thing regarding Clinton, or Kerry if they said the same thing as "dont use gas if you dont need it?"

I agree though that it was a stupid thing to say... he should have warned the gas companies to lower their prices, or made some sort of gas cap law, in hawaii they have a price cap law now. He should have done something useful instead of saying "duuuuur.. dont use gas if you dont need it! dee dee dee" lol

no, he's not going to hesitate in going places because that's what most Presidents do. personally, i don't understand your problem. why should any President have to worry about where they go due to gas prices when they have to worry about a ton of much more important things??

and since this doesn't really have anything to do with thread topic....

In Montréal, Québec too...but not per gallon but per liter: it was $1.04 last weekend and now it's like $1.50 per litre. And last year at that time it was around $0.70 if I recall well.

Edit: 1 US gallon = 3.785 liters

Wow. Vancouver didn't feel the hit you talking about.... last time I saw the gas price went from $1.14 per liter to $1.20 per litre. It must've gone up a little now....

Edit: Party!! It's at $1.18 here.

All you managed to do in this rant was make yourself look like "an obnoxious, ultra buffoon." Besides, there is much wisdom in what he said. Most people drive around with about 1/4th tank of gas in their car. If everyone goes out and fills their tank in a panic (like they did earlier this week), gas stations won't be able to keep gas in stock and therefore rob the supply from the rest of us.

Around here(Boulder, CO) prices are around $2.99 for regular and $3.23 for premium. I have heard that arount Atlanta and on the East Coast the price is around $5.97 for a gallon of regular. I don't know how much truth there is in that, but damn, that's expensive.

Check my previous post above ^^^^^. It is true for some places around Atlanta.

That's insane. I kinda wish that had been an unsubstantiated rumor rather than a preview of what's to come. I may have to fix my bike now, and start riding to work.

That is what I am doing today. I dusted off the ol' mountain bike and aired up the tires. While gas has dropped below $3 here (in no small part to Gov. Perdue signing an order to remove state gas taxes until the end of September), I still think it will be worth being ready to ride to work everyday. Better safe than sorry.

well, not here in South Carolina (where i live). like i said earlier: you have to find a station that has gas, then you can worry about paying $3.25 for regular.

and my gas station is out of gas till Mon. :fist:

Hum? I wonder where your Attorney General has been keeping his head latley....

Anyway, I live about 2 hours west of New Orleans. Gas is just under $3 a gallon. Not as high as some places, but its not done rising. Hopefully, the oil reserves will help a bit, but its not going to help much. Being so close to Texas helps too.

Yes, I know hes talking about gouging. I just got a kick out of the "out of context" wording of your post. I donno, I think I need to go to bed........ Im a bit "loopy" at the moment. But it sure is fun!

ya better run I think I here darth 333 coming cuz our attorney general is a woman hehe you just made a sexist comment as to it being a man:xp:

the gas prices are a load of bull to me, even though I can't drive and I don't own a car, they still effect me in many ways, because my dad dislikes playing 'taxi,' because I always go somewhere, bout everynight and the gas price is up to 3.00 in richmond kentucky, but hopefully everything will be solved soon..

I don't see why everyone is outraged/surprised by this. It was bound to happen sooner or later. We don't have enough oil to supply us forever. Combined with the rise of China's oil use, this situation would happen. Maybe not so suddenly, but over some time it would.

I hear plenty of stupid solutions by "smart" people being thrown around.

One said that Canada should nationalize its oil industry. The thing is it doesn't work. We did the same thing in the past.

Another was controlling the oil price through legislation. Which also doesn't work since lobbying from oil companies would be very strong and people would call us commies.

Then there's the idiocy of increasing the taxes on the oil companies in order to punish them. Very smart when to compensate for increase taxation, the companies would raise the prices.

All in all, I personnally think this is for the best. It encourages people to switch to public transportation or take a bike to work. Hybrid cars will also see a sudden rise.

It's all good for the environment and frankly, if you live alone and you have an SUV and whine, you can go to hell.

Antarctica and Alaska have oil ;) But there was some kind of treaty/law that you couldn't mine the "south pole" for like... 50 yrs. Too bad I don't think we have enough oil for 50 years.

They seriously need to be pushing non-fuel powered vehicles and machinery now. Phase the oil out now, before we have a problem. It seems that mainly environmentalist are switching to vehicles that don't need gasoline. :-\

I hope they realise that when all the gas is gone, there cars are pretty much scrape metal, unless you want to pay for some kind of hydrogen engine.... or something. But thats expensive, from what I hear. I guess if more and more people buy that the price will go down.

Well considering a majority of politicians and figures are male, unless he knew better, he made an understandable mistake.

Yea, Thanks IS. I guess I need to remember to use the ol' "his/her" thingy.

At least I didn't call her "it" :xp:

Obviously no one in the world is perfect, so we'll have to live with the downfall of mistakes and possible stupidity. :)

Did you just call me stupid? :xp:

Back on topic:

Our gas has gone up, but not as much as I would have expected. The highest I've seen is $2.89 for premium. Although, no one has the 87octane. I spent $2.75/gallon yesterday. Its times like this I really love my Saturn!

Ofcourse, the prices are not done rising. They seem to have leveled out for the moment, but I doubt that will last for long. Hopefully, we can get some more from overseas.

The problem is, we are running out of oil. The OPEC countries know that when they are out of oil, they are out of luck. Couple that with general greed, and you have a formula for high oil prices. We just used too much too quickly. I think alternative fuel sources need to be developed quickly. The main problem is that the world economy relies so much on oil, when we switch fuel sources, many countries are going to go bankrupt.

Alaska has oil, but not as much as people think. Alot of people seem to think drilling in Alaska will solve all the fuel problems. It will only delay them, and not that long.

.............if you live alone and you have an SUV and whine, you can go to hell.

HAHAHAHAH. Agreed!
