The Phantom Menace was a complete oposite of s**t. It was really well done and I believe that such a thing would be very hard to do. And yet it was done in a tremendous way.

I disagree, however I will say I was REALLY enjoying the movie right up until Jar Jar appeared, and I'm not saying that to jump on a bandwagon and it only got worse with Anakin. It was just a bit too silly with too many "wtf" moments: Force Conception, Midi-whatevers being the Force, Anakin destroying the Trade Federation ship and so forth.

The movie's got its good moments but none of them involve, Padme, Artoo, Threepio, Anakin or Jar Jar.

Truthfully, I REALLY don't understand why so many people dislike Jar Jar (for instance I thought that he was great :D ). But tastes can never apply globally, I suppose.

But got worse with Anakin??? I highly disagree. They had to introduce him to the story, and it made maximum sense to me.

@Vlad: You actually like Jar-Jar?!?! He's the single most annoying Star Wars character in history, followed closely by young Anakin.

I didn't mind so much that they made Threepio Anakin's creation. I know I wouldn't be able to think of a better way to introduce the character.

I voted for Palps vs. Mace. I loved every aspect of that duel from start to finish, including the points with Anakin. especially when Mace kicks the saber out of Palp's hand, and he sort of scurries back accompanied by that urgent score...supreme. Followed by Jin/Maul and Luke/Vader (both parts). I'd say all the saber duels save a few with Dooku were pretty awesome.

I loved the Phantom Menace. I have said it before and I will say it again, each Star Wars movie was better than the one that came before it. I know that a lot of people are readying their tomato cannons now, but that is how I feel about it. Jar Jar was far too annoying, but I liked the young Anakin and the C3PO twist. And, in ROTS, it was nice to see how they justified how he doesn't remember the Skywalker name in Episode 4 by having Bail Organa ordering a memory wipe. I always wondered how they would work that into the plot.

You know what I would have loved to see: a fight between 2 double-bladed lightsaber duelists. That would be so intense.

I guess you have never seen the fan film "Duality" then. ;) Excellent movie!

@MdKnightr: I've seen it. Although you could clearly see that the cosutumes had parts of SKi-suits, it was a great movie. The fight was pretty intense...

Everyone should see the above mentioned movie. owning like Darth Maul is not so hard, these guys do it, too.

You can download it via X-Fire..

(Sits in a corner hoping the X-Fire mentioning will survive the day)

Obi-Wan vs. Vader!!

Besides what was already mentioned I also really enjoy the different fighting styles of the two characters.

While Obi-Wan seems to be fighting a losing battle and is mostly busy dodging Akakin's aggressive strikes, Anakin himself is really shown as both powerful and arrogant. I exspecially like the part where Anakin, having lost his lightsaber, simply remains lying as Obi-Wan tries to strike him, grabs his own saber and blocks. T3h ub3r k3w1ness! :p

Luke against Vader in Episode VI. The turning point of the series, great fight, perfect music, the emotional charge... just WOW!

Obi Wan versus Vader a close second, incredible scene, and for thirds Qui Gon and Obi versus Maul. What a display of swordsmanship.

Turning point in the series? Its the end of the series.

Well, yeah, d'uh. But it's the most important point, sided by Anakin's turning.

Actually, the Luke v Vader 2 duel would be the side-show to Anakin's turning...since the entire series is about the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker.

D'uh. mass.

the entire series is about the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker.

I wouldn't agree with that. On one hand it can't be a tragedy because Anakin is himself redeemed if only at the end, for a tragedy to work the hero has to lose at the end and known he's lost. The situation at the conclusion of RoTJ was quite different.

Secondly, I still feel after everything has been said and done the story of Star Wars is about Luke (and in retroscope the Skywalker family as a whole). Luke deals with many of the same temptations and self-doubts that his father did, but instead of giving in, he manages to overcome them, redeems Anakin and resist the Emperor. He succeeds in every aspect where his father failed.

Anakin's role in the prequels is merely about setting the context for Luke's own struggle.

It's a close tie with the Obi/Vader duel or the DOTF for the prequels. In the OT, probably the Bespin fight, because the ROTJ fight was really not that good (aside from being a climax of the story). I'll give the advantage to the Mustafar fight overall, for having a greater length of high-intensity fighting.

I know what Lucas said and I disagree with him. In terms of story structure and such Luke is the protagonist not Vader. Anakin merely sets up the conflict that Luke must resolve. So rather than saying Star Wars is merely about Anakin I would say it's about the Skywalker family drama that plays out.

How can you disagree with the creator of a series when he says what his series was about? Its not exactly a debatable topic.
