@Jae, But how will I ever become one of the great moderators without posting while naked?

Good point

anywhooooo... congrats on the new toy :D And remember, it's really hard to use the internet with hairy palms and going blind ;) Keep your pr0n levels to a "human" degree

lolz...I always thought RJM was one of the weirder ahtonauts. Now that he will be restraining himself less, we might have to program "spray with cold water" into vB3 to control him

I agree... 10,000% :devsmoke:

Hey RJM, you're not Officially® kewl until you're up-to-date with the latest Foamy happenings ;)

That's right. Because those of us in the eye field want to stay employed. Partial blindness is OK, total blindness is right out. ;)

@Sabretooth, That Zombo was awesome, I especially loved the Cylon Strippers:lol:

@Astro, I like the "spray with cold water" feature:) My ubernerdy basement paradise happens to be the hottest room in the house. Go figure:xp: Doesn't hot air rise and cool air fall, maybe I watched too many Prey previews:lol:

@Ztalker, Thanks for the newgrounds link, tons of good stuff there, I found this link to interactive desktops (OF THE FUTURE!!!:xp: ) I'd seen that kind of stuff before, but it's nice to have. It's more related to this than the desktop thread though, so I'll post it here...

Two questions about this: Does anyone know if I could find a simple animated Matrix wallpaper that makes my compy less tired than this interactive whatchamacallit? Also, when I was tryin to host this pic....WHAT HAPPENED TO IMAGESHACK?!!! That was my reliable screenshot host, now it's just a bunch of links to other sites???

@LordR, LOLOL We don't have cable here + old local phone lines = Satellite: all of 300-400 K. I was able to find about 5 battlefront servers with pings in excess of 1000

If you know of an ULTIMATE connection benchmark site, let me know please:)

@ChAiNz, It would appear that Foamy is teh pwn. I watched all I could find and still lack sufficient foamy:D

The Admins really should write some code to keep him away from the emo kid threads:xp:

@Jae, I hear Japan is making large strides in prosthetic bodies, and "ghostly" personal cloaking devices;)

@Cyg, Just you wait till I get the 1337 h4x skillz to set up my wireless router:naughty:

I don't know about posting from the shower though, I just forked out cash for a new HD.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, it's semi-related and better than making a new thread...

Does anyone else have an ISP who restricts your connection speed?

I was never informed of this, but apparently if you transfer (either way) a total of 900MB you get cap on your connection speed of 90Kb when you're still paying for 500kb.

I did call and complain, that's when they told me about it. Supposedly it has something to do with keeping stuff balanced across everyone elses satelite network. I was told that if the total transfer size exceeds 900MB a week then there is a restriction for the remainder of the week. The wierd thing is sometimes it seems to last longer than a week, I know I know I don't use that much in the first part of a week.

I figure it's probably to cover for crappy equipment/IT work, or trying to scam a better profit, but I figured I'd check and make sure it isn't something everyone has to deal with.

I'd love to switch ISPs, but the dish and equipment was to much of an investment to just buy it all over again. The wierd thing is that the ISP was recommended by another ISP which (from what I've heard) doesn't seem to have the same problems. We have Direct TV, and were going to get Direcway(sp?) but the local directv store said starband had better service/speed/reliability. Crazy.

bah. rig up to your next door neighbour's line. they won't mind...(if you dont tell them)
Yeah, he would still have to purchase a modem or do you wish for him to STEAL his/her modem as well? And when he/her finds out (trust me he/her will find out), there will be hell to pay... So I would hope he/her doesn't have a sword like I have or you might end up like Kreia.

If it's not spelled out that they do this in the agreement (and it might be there, but vague 'we reserve the right to limit our bandwidth'), then they may be violating the terms of the contract, in which case you could get out of it. There may be some kind of 90 day guarantee--I might invoke it if that's the case. If they have advertised the high bandwidth and didnt' spell out the 'when you use this much, we drop you to 90' thing, they might be violating truth-in-advertising. My mother saved me about $150 on a fridge at a store when the price had been switched with another fridge. She started crowing something about 'truth in advertising! Truth in advertising!' and the guy had to give it to us at a much lower price than they would have otherwise.

I'd ask them for a usage statement to prove that you've used that much.

I'd also find out who to complain to in your state for bad business practices, and if this company does work in more than one state, complain to the FTC. You have to have your ducks in a row to do that, though, and show them a copy of your contract and specific instances where they didn't hold up their end of the deal, because they'll ask for specifics. The better your documentation, the more effective they can be.

This is just in general, not directed at you, but I've found that when I complain, if I do it politely, I get much, much farther than if I pepper the conversation/email with expletives and tell them what idiots they are. Most people want to help you fix your problem and have a happy customer. They are much less likely to give good service if you go in screaming like a banshee. I always couch it as 'this product isn't working correctly, I'd like a replacement, please' and try to make it as impersonal as possible--after all it's not the customer service person who did something wrong. It works much better than 'you made a piece of crap, you people are idiots, and I demand you give me something for it now.'

I was kidding I thought the bit about ending up like Kreia would tell you that much, but that would kinda be ****ed up and don't think that if that happened to me I would be so forgiving enough to not cut off the ****ers' hands. I pay too much for my cable modem for some BS like that.
