The Source
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Novels I am not talking about comicbooks or graphic novels. I am talking about large 400 to 600 page novels, which you have to use your own imagination. I think this is the only way to get the fulll story, and a indepth understanding of the events of the KotOR series. I don't think that people can get all the facts from comicbooks/graphics novels or games. Not only will something like this be sucuessful, but it would give the followers of KotOR a chance to see the whole story. When someone writes a book, they are able to add things that cannot be done on big or little screen. What do you think?
Rexraptor2000
I think it's a great idea.
Emperor Devon
That would not get everything. Hyperspace travel can take a while, and it took even longer back in KotOR's era. It would get very dull to read about all those days on the Ebon Hawk. The idea of KotOR novels sounds good, though. I'd definitely read them, although there's the problem about Revan's gender and alignment. Writing seperate books would a good solution, though. Jeff
I'd definitely read kotor novels, I really like the time period in the SW universe that it takes place in.
Jae Onasi
Machievelli did a Kotor novelization that's in the Coruscant Entertainment center that's just terrific--it's here. Kotorfanmedia has a number of fanfics that are novelizations also. @Emperor Devon (not to be confused with ED)--the writers have managed to fill up those days in space very creatively. Emperor Devon
There's only so much to fill up in an interesting manner. The trips in space probably added up to weeks, and a realistic novelization of KotOR would have very few scenes on the planets compared to in hyperspace. But as I don't read fan fiction, I suppose I can't say.
The Source
@ Jae Onasi Are those novels based upon what the writters of the KotOR series intended?
Jae Onasi
There's only so much to fill up in an interesting manner. The trips in space probably added up to weeks, and a realistic novelization of KotOR would have very few scenes on the planets compared to in hyperspace. But as I don't read fan fiction, I suppose I can't say. Well, we _do_ skip the less interesting things, and you don't have to account for every single day in space. It's assumed that they practiced sparring techniques, read, studied Force skills, played Pazaak, etc. We don't need a blow-by-blow detailing of every single thing that happens on the ship. You don't see that in the game, so you don't see much in the fics, either, though the authors tend to advance a lot of the relationships, e.g. Male Revan and Bastila or Female Revan and Carth, what happens between Carth and Revan after the Leviathan, that kind of stuff. You're not going to read something like this: Revan (walking in to the common area): What's for dinner, Jolee? Smells great. Mission: Aw, Jolee! Not beans _again_! Jolee: They're good for you! Make you grow hair on your lekku! I used my special Kashyyyk recipe. Carth (eating): mmphmph--this is great, Jolee. Better than B-rations any day. Bastila: Don't eat with your mouth full, Carth. It's uncouth. Carth: It's uncouth to point out that someone's uncouth. Zaalbar: *Where's the beef?* Juhani (patting Zaalbar's arm): Don't worry, we will pick up some meat at our next planet. HK: Statement: I am very disappointed that I was not allowed to kill that last Kath hound. The master could have used it for dinner. Now my olfactory sensors will have to be turned off tonight. T3: (makes raspberry sound at HK) Canderous (standing up from dinner): I gotta use the 'fresher. Beans always give me gas. HK (to T3): Statement: I told you so. Bastila (calls out to Canderous): Don't forget to spray the air freshener! Canderous (calling back as he closes the refresher door): I'll make sure to use the Kinrath Gland Scent just for you, Princess. (Bastila throws up her hands in disgust, Mission giggles) @Mac--A lot of the Kotor fanfics follow the story line, but fill in the story more, like Carth's life with Morgana, more of Jolee's story with his wife, the development of any romance plots, how Carth feels about Saul, how Revan deals with fighting his/her former friend and apprentice, that sort of stuff. El Sitherino
Suck. Game stories belong in the hands of game story makers. Not some over-paid fan fiction crapsucker.
Char Ell
I would be interested in KotOR era novels as long as Revan and the Exile didn't play major parts in them. I want to see gender neutrality preserved when it comes to those two characters. If such novels took basically the same route Darkhorse has taken with the KotOR comic series then I would definitely be interested.
Emperor Devon
Well, we _do_ skip the less interesting things, and you don't have to account for every single day in space. {snip} Ha! I would't mind reading an account of how time drags on the Ebon Hawk in that manner!
milo
Wait... do you mean you want a choose-your-own-adventure novel? 'Cause I hate those things.
Emperor Devon
No, I mean that they could make four seperate novels, for each gender and alignment combination. Or just two for a LSM and DSM Revan.
Jae Onasi
Naw, us Carthaholics have to have a LSF Revan for those lonely days in hyperspace.

Err, sorry Devon, I was actually referring to what Mac said. I should've specified. which you have to use your own imagination. This didn't make sense to me. RC-1162
like many pointed out, there's always the problem of Revan's gender and alignment, so i don't really think a novel of K1/K2 will be very popular. however, if somebody writes about WTF Revan did in the unknown regions, then i'd buy it. Ztalker
Kotor IS mentioned in a comic-book tho. Do you remember the 3 jedi remains? Saresh on Khasyyk (spelling, i know), and the two on Korriban? There's a comic based on them, in which they have visions of the Kotor events. Some of them show an LS male Revan. Here's a link, and some pics. The comic As you can read, the comic is sort of an 'commercial' for the game. As you can see, some pics show famous scenes of the game, such as Malak's defeat (posted above), Bastilla's torture, and the like. It also has something to do with the Terantek threat. @ Topic: As for as i know, this is the only comic based on the Kotor franchise. It uses the cannonial ending of LS-male. I'd personally love to see the DS version too though. Especially the brutal events at the Unknow World...

igyman
I'm not sure how good an idea would a KoTOR book be, maybe if it described the Mandalorian Wars, or some other historical events mentioned in K1, like perhaps the history of the Sand People and how Tatooine became the desert planet we know of now (since from what is told in K1 it wasn't always like that). @Ztalker: You may want to recheck your link, it doesn't seem to work. Marvolo
I thought about writting a book on the mandalorians, but never got past the planning stages. Maybe I will have to try again.

CountVerilucus
what about a novel that is Kotor period, maybe relates a bit to events in the games, but is a completely different story? kinda like the comic book they have right now, except it would be a novel. I'd like that.
The Source
^^^^ Yeah. that would be cool. Otherwords, the story will be based upon another Jedi. Someone who is not directly involved with the Revan and Exile story. However, they are affected by some of the events.
Jeff
I definitely wouldn't want something based on the exile or Revan. I really enjoy the KotOR comics and I think if they made books they should take a similar approach by just using the time period and some background from the game.
