Char Ell
I was waiting for Darth Moeller to start this thread but since the college football season has officially started and no sign of DM then I guess I'll get the ball rolling. This thread is for all things with regards to the NCAA Football 2006 season. Post about your favorite team(s), players, comments on games, and maybe even a little trash talk will ensue. The AP pre-season poll has the top 10 teams pegged as: Ohio State Notre Dame Texas Auburn West Virginia USC Florida LSU California Oklahoma I've got no idea as to what two teams will end up in the championship game. Living in the PAC-10 conference I pick Cal to take the conference championship. Glad to see that Michigan got off to a good start with a 27-7 thumping of unranked Vanderbilt. GO BLUE!!! Now if the Wolverines can just beat Ohio State this year...

Jae Onasi
No. 1 Ohio State Opens Season with 35-12 Victory vs. Northern Illinois! Ooh, Dark Side points to you, cutmeister, for rooting for 'that school up North'. Oh, and I noticed it's not even listed in the top 10.
Bimmerman
I hate to say it, but my school, CU, lost to MSU Bozeman. WTF?
Char Ell
Ooh, Dark Side points to you, cutmeister, for rooting for 'that school up North'. Yeah, I was afraid that you might be a Buckeye. Now REDJOHNNYMIKE has someone else in his cheer section. @ Darth Moeller - Get in here, man! Now there are _two_ of 'em! Oh, and I noticed it's not even listed in the top 10. True but IMO pre-season polls aren't worth much. There have been very few seasons where the team ranked #1 in the pre-season poll has finished as #1... OSU has a hard row to hoe in September with opponents like Texas @Texas, Penn State, and Iowa @Iowa. And of course let's not forget they face the mighty University of Michigan in the last game of the season. I hate to say it, but my school, CU, lost to MSU Bozeman. WTF?Of course I'm sure you're aware that Colorado has a new head coach and needs to rebuild after the chaos that was the Gary Barnett era. Unless Dan Hawkins can find a way to get the CU offense going I'm afraid your team will not favor you with a winning record this season.
Jeff
@ Darth Moeller - Get in here, man! Now there are _two_ of 'em! Damn OSU fans... I'm not really expecting Michigan to get to the national championship game or anything like that this year but I'd love to see them crack the top 10, and beat Ohio State. I'm kind of weird that in some 'love or hate' rivalries I don't hate either team, and one of those rivalries is Michigan/Notre Dame. Since Notre Dame is ranked so high this year I'd really like to see them do well and get to the championship game. For ND it's either now or never as 9 of their starters on offense are Seniors. Q
Well, the Irish beat Georgia Tech last night 14-10. Pretty good game. I'm originally from NE Indiana, so I like to see ND do well. I'm no football fanatic, but I like to watch a good game between two evenly matched teams every once in a while.

Unless Dan Hawkins can find a way to get the CU offense going I'm afraid your team will not favor you with a winning record this season. Ha, yea, i am aware of that. I wasn't expecting a shutout victory or anything, but...still...to have them play that badly was a rude awakening. The CSU vs. CU game's this saturday... things are not looking good(for those of you who aren't versed in the rivalry, CSU, Colorado State University, and CU, the University of Colorado, are in a long-standing rivalry that CU has historically won). Did my grad work there. @ Darth Moeller - Get in here, man! Now there are _two_ of 'em! Heh, Jimbo's a Buckeye fan, too. True but IMO pre-season polls aren't worth much. REDJOHNNYMIKE
We would have to have the one coach who won't play to run the score up (35 was weak) That Wolfe guy was fun to watch though:D
Char Ell
Unless there's substantial injuries taking out the best players, they have a decent change of making it.Now I didn't say Ohio State didn't have a chance at finishing #1 (as much as that makes me wanna ), only that history has shown that teams ranked #1 in the pre-season polls often don't finish #1. I have a great deal of respect for Jim Tressel and how he kept his football team on track after the Maurice Clarett fiasco. Still, that doesn't mean I'm pulling for OSU's success. mimartin
Have to say this college football season has me pretty nervous. Over the years I grown accustom to Texas breaking my heart by losing one or two big games per year (and a few games they had no business losing), so last year I rode it all on a pretty even keel. I never got overly excited thinking that a disastrous lost was waiting around the corner the next Saturday and even refused to close my office in order to attend the National Championship game. This year I’m excited to see what happens in the post Vince Young era. The Longhorns are just as talented as any team in the nation, but the inexperience at quarterback may end up hurting them against the likes of Ohio State and ou. They say defensive is were Championship or won and lost and Co-Defensive Coordinator Gene Chizik is undefeated the past two years with Auburn and Texas, so I believe anything is possible this year. We will learn a lot about Texas and Ohio State this weekend. Too bad it is a prime time game, I’d love to see a noon or 2:30 pm kick off in the warm central Texas sun. Of the teams in the top ten only Ohio State and ou worry me and that is only because Texas plays them. If Texas manages to beat them I believe the rest will take care of itself as long as they do not become careless against atm or Texas Tech. If Notre Dame can make it through that schedule of their’s undefeated they deserve to be in the National Championship game no matter who else is undefeated. What worries me is what if they have one loss, do they get in over a undefeated FSU or West Virginia? I hate to say it, but my school, CU, lost to MSU Bozeman. WTF? That shocked me too. I not a big fan of CU, but I do enjoy going to Bolder every time Texas’ plays there. I love the game day atmosphere around Bolder and the natural beauty of the campus and the surrounding area. I know it is the coaches first year, but he will be lucky to see a second with a lost to a division IAA school at home. Hope they can rebound this weekend against CSU. Cygnus Q'ol
On Wisconsin Baby! GO BIG RED! The Badgers aren't ranked this year, but they are #1 in our hearts. (...at least in mine) Too bad we don't get a crack at the Suckeyes this season, but at least the Wolverines will get their come-uppance September 23rd. Big Ten Football rules! I'll be at the game on Saturday against W.Ill. (yes, I have a DD.) There's nothing in the world like a football Saturday in Madison, Wisconsin. Yes the rumours are true. UW is the #1 party school in the country bar none. (...especially on Saturdays in the fall) Sometimes I really miss campus life. (big, huge sigh). Bimmerman
Well, CU lost to CSU. We played worse than my High School team did, which is saying a lot. "Oh the wide receiver's open! Let's hit the grass instead!" ugh this season's not looking good.
Mav
We (Penn State) had a chance to win today but lack of experiance & mistakes kicked us in the butt.Really cause from what I watch you guys didn't really stand a chance at all I watched the OSU vs. Texas game as well, OSU didn't "wow" me, they just appeared to be a solid team, the Longhorns new QB... Colt something???, anyway, he showed his inexperience in that game.

Colt something???, anyway, he showed his inexperience in that game. They didn't have an amazing game because it was against the #2 team in the nation I thought they showed that they really are the team to beat in the solid win. And the Texas QB is Colt McCoy I think, and yeah, his inexperience hurt them.
Char Ell
Go Buckeyes!! Nice job in the win against Texas. No doubt sweet revenge for last year's heartbreaking home loss at the hands of the Vince Young-led Longhorns. You know what they say about payback... But what's up with this? - 17 people arrested after Buckeyes win I didn't get to watch much of the OSU vs. Texas game because I had a buddy call me up to tell me he had an extra ticket to the Nevada vs. Arizona State game. Woohoo!!! I hadn't been to a college football game in a long time. Good times, especially since ASU stomped Nevada 52-21. And I have to say that one of the reasons I enjoy college football so much more than pro football is because of the college bands. I just love hearing the band playing the school's fight song every time the home team scores. ASU played much better this week than last although both their opponents were unranked. ASU has one more warmup game against Colorado (no offense intended Bimmerman) and then will have a true test of their mettle in their first PAC-10 conference game @ Cal. Michigan too will have a real test next week. After yesterday's expected win over Central Michigan the Wolverines are done with their warmup games and take on Notre Dame in South Bend. Argghh, the anticipation is killing me.
Jae Onasi
But what's up with this? - 17 people arrested after Buckeyes win Only 17? The cops were being overly generous. I'll never understand setting things on fire or rioting to celebrate a victory. That's just Dumb with a capital Duh. Having seen the housing in the student neighborhoods around campus, I can tell you that as long as the people are safe, it's no loss. The housing is really crappy around there. You're prolly right anyway...most of the people around here have given up hope. There's always next year, if CU doesn't fire Hawkins. Doing so would be the stupidest thing they could do- getting rid of him for losing 2 games in his first season with the players...such things take time to get going, and only now are people realizing it(myself included). mimartin
Congratulations Ohio State fans you were the better team. Went to the game, enjoyed everything but the second half and the final score. What can I say you can’t win them all and last years National Championship does take some of the sting off the loss. Now I'll just be depressed for a week or two. The major difference to me was the immaturity of Texas quarterback and our inability to cover number 11. Hopefully the secondary and quarterback situation can be solved before the ou game and Texas can run the table the rest of the year and get back to a BCS game. Unlike ESPN, I liked the play of the Texas quarterback for the most part. I thought he hung in there pretty good and had a lot of ball just droped. Good luck to Ohio State the rest of the year (except against BIG BLUE). Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing a rematch in the Fiesta Bowl.
Char Ell
A very satisfying Saturday for me. The Arizona State vs. Colorado game pretty much went as expected. Colorado's defense was good and ASU only scored 3 touchdowns. However Colorado's offense still couldn't get anything going and managed only a field goal. ASU sophomore QB Rudy Carpenter showed he still has room for improvement though. Unbelievable how Michigan lit up Notre Dame at South Bend, 47-21. I didn't get to watch the game but it sounds like the Michigan defense dropped the hammer on Notre Dame and caused a lot of Fighting Irish turnovers. I did watch most of the Oklahoma vs. Oregon game. Oklahoma really choked during the last 3 minutes of the game but they were robbed of the opportunity to stop the bleeding and hold on for the win. An onside Oregon kickoff with 1:22 remaining in the game was clearly touched by an Oregon player before the ball advanced 10 yards but no flag was thrown. Oregon recovered the ball and although the kickoff was reviewed the replay official said there wasn't conclusive evidence to overturn the ruling on the field. I saw the replay a few times and it was clear that Oregon touched the ball after it progressed about 9 yards. So much for instant replay fixing bad calls on the field.
