Need for Speed Carbon PwnZ all!!

I got the game a few hours ago and all I could say was: ''OMFG, it's like... I mean it's just... holy friggn' crap it's gooooooooooooood!''

If you liked NFS Most Wanted, you'll love this one. The graphics are slightly improved since MW and the story continues on the previous one, also now it's all nighttime and a brand new city, etc, etc.

So, has anyone else played this, or is anyone else planning on getting it? What are your impressions on this game?

In the last 2 NFS games ive played it's never been Daytime! While i loved NFS Underground and Underground 2, the rest after them have just been Carbon* Copies of each other. Doesnt interest me anymore, ive switched over to Exotic cars and eagerly await Test Drive Unlimited. Im glad your having fun on it though. Sounds like a bash :smash:

Actually, Most Wanted was the best title in the series in a very long time. Underground 1 and 2 were crap compared to NFS:MW and I can definetely say that the latter is not a carbon copy of the former. If you're old enough to remember NFS3:Hot Pursuit, you know what I mean.

They should really consider having a day/night cycle system. Of course, it's easier said then done, but it will certainly be much more interesting. NFS3:HP (and many other I think) gave the choice of racing during the day or during the night. It really changed a track by just making that simple change.

From what I've read, Carbon puts very little emphasis on Police chases, which were the most fun one can have with an NFS game. I'll probably try it out, but I'll also probably pass on this...

Note to EA: Why do they consider NFS:Hot Pursuit the greatest game of the old serie and Most Wanted the best of the new one?

From what I've seen, this Need For Speed goes back to it's roots. Braking is no an essential part of the game (in contradiction to the other ones). Also, you can create your own sideskirts, shape them, etc. No car will be the same.

it's to bad I'm a 'poor student' now. I would have got the game if I wasn't :xp:

Nissan 350 Z for the win!

Bah.

I remember Need for Speed 2, my first racing game. Was ownage, with the super fast McLaren F1.

Then Need for Speed 3:Hot Pursuit. The best NFS ever. I always played it with my brother, one of us police, one racer, or both racer. It was so entertaining.

The next Nfs was NFS porsche I think, or am I wrong? Anyway I liked that one, because Porsche belongs to my favourite cars.

But the new NFS's, Underground 1 & 2 and Most Wanted were no fun for me. Therefore I won't get carbon...

I already have a copy in my HD. I just started it, but I like it. I'd prefer Most Wanted better.

@ Vaelastraz: No, after Need For Speed III: Hot Pursuit, there is a NFS IV: The High Stake. It won't work in XP, in other words, it's a Win 98 Edition of Need For Speed III. But did you play Need For Speed VI: Hot Pursuit II? I like it. My favorite game is NFS II and V. As you say, Underground I and II s****, but Most Wanted sure improved a lot. For Carbon? Huh. the Combination of Most Wanted and the Underground. Nice Idea.

@lukeiamyourdad: Well, I think Most Wanted is completely different from its older brothers, Unground series. It changed to daytime, and added the tactical pursuit of cops and heat level concept. Of course, and you get your sweet ride--BMW M3 GTR if you beat Razor. For NFS III, sure, I remember this game. That game was the first game to intergrate the concept of "Cop Pursuit". And it's graphic technology also improved a lot, relative to NFS 1 and NFS II. Do you think so?

Hot Pursuit kicks so much ass!

I love the NFS series, and I enjoyed the NFSU ones as well, except for the crappy music at parts...

Question not directed at me but I'll answer it anyway :)

I personally hated HP2. The helicopters dropping those weird napalm cannisters really killed it for me. I understand that its a serie of arcade racing games but come on...The whole thing felt wrong anyway.

I can't say I remember exactly how the graphics were different in the two first games compared to the third. Anyway, all I ever cared about was getting away from the cops :D

Honestly, I wish I could get the old techno beats of NFS3. It sounds so much better then some of the heavy metal/hip hop tracks. You really feel like driving a supercar for some reason...

I have NFS:Carbon on order and it should be here tomorrow. I loved Underground, but I really liked the free roam aspect of Underground II along with the fact that they put the new Pontiac GTO in the game along with Pontiac billboards.

They carried the GTO over to Most Wanted and included the Vauxhaul Monaro (Europe's version of the GTO) in there as well. The only thing I didn't like about Most Wanted is that the Camaro SS was only available in Quick Race mode (unless you had a mod) and it wasn't upgradable, so it always drove sloppy.

Being a muscle car fan, I am hyped about Carbon, but I do have a gripe about it already. As far as I can tell from the website, there are NO FRIGGIN PONTIACS in the PC version!!!! How can you have a game that promotes American Muscle without at least putting a classic GTO (or better yet, JUDGE) in it? I saw a screenshot on a fansite that showed the new GTO for Xbox, but not for the PC. And, to top it all off, the PSP version has a 1979 Trans Am!!!! What a bunch of crap! Nonetheless, I am sure that I will enjoy the game, but not near as much as I would if it contained my favorite brand of vehicle.

Ah yes I've played the Hot Pursuit II too. Didn't like it though. I can't describe it, but the police car AI in the hot pursuit I was just ownage. (Ok it probably wasn't but I was young back then and I loved it :D)

Now I defeated all bosses except the last one--Darius. But however, I can't play anymore because the computer is using Tier 3 car--Fully upgraded against my Tier 2 car, a Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG (Also upgraded).

After about 2 hour's play, I finally got a Tier 3 car...damn, a 350Z...WTF?! My class is exotic, not a tuner...But however, that's not the biggest problem. The problem is, the game became too tough for me to handle because the opponents became tougher (A lot! Like, for me, I have to punch in 'Unlimited NOS' to pass all of them!) so I can't unlock the newer performance upgrades!

At least Most Wanted is easier for me.

[NOTE TO ALL NFS CARBON FAN: NO OFFENSE, THESE ARE JUST MY OPINION AND MY EXPIERENCE. OF COURSE, IT MAY VARY AMONG PEOPLE. SO FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR IDEA HERE. Hope Igyman permits this.]

Yeah, I know. But for me, the helicopters are fun because this trains your reflex. Frankly, I like it. It's just my opinion.

True, the AI is not good related to Most Wanted. Frankly, I surprisingly found that the AI in Carbon is worse than Most Wanted. I mean, the cops are easier to be messed with, of course, relating to Most Wanted.

I think the Most Wanted's cops are hardest to mess up with.

Most Wanted sucks. Underground 2 was way better. Most Wanted didn't really have a lot of mods, and didn't have drift, it was mainly focused around cops. and it was always daytime which sucks too.

In carbon, its like taking Most Wanted and UNderground and putting them into one game, but with more stuff. You can also sculpt the bodykit, recruit drivers to aid you in racing, get mechanics, or other people to unlock more stuf, and more

I'm definately going to get this.

I liked both series, however I was frustrated alot with the drag racing.

You have to restart a million times until you memorize the whole run.

(oncomming traffic, lane changes, trains, boost level, etc...)

I just wanted to finish them quick to get back to free roam or other racing modes and get my cash.

This looks good though.

Actually, the Vauxhall is still there, in Carbon I mean. I can't guarantee it, but I think I saw a Pontiac that needs to be unlocked somewhere in the Challenge Series of Carbon (along with the BMW from MW).

Of course, I started this thread because I wanted to hear other people's opinions. :)

Seeing as how we're talking about the other NFS games as well, I thought that I should say that Carbon is actually only the third NFS game I played. The first one was High Stakes, then, after hearing a lot of good stuff about it, I got Most Wanted and it was awesome, so when I learned of Carbon I just had to see it and it's great.

I respect your opinion, well, the most frustrated part is Drift Racing. I never participate into a drift unless a critical performance part such as Transmssion Tier 3: Race Package (Which is requirement if you want to upgrade Mercedes Benz SLR or Porsche Carrera GT). And I have to restart a million times in order to drift them. However, I found the cops are less entertaining in the Carbon. Well, I think Most Wanted has the best cop co-operation ever.

I'm definately going to get this.

Good for you to love both series. Both are very good, except NFS IV. Well, drag racing is not the hardest part--Everything doesn't change--the oncoming traffic, trains, or other obstacles have their own track--no matter how many times you restart, they just go on the same track over and over. Good luck. BTW, I suck on drifting. Also, Canyon Dueling makes my head hurt, too.

What platforms is this available on?

I loved the old NFS games. Haven't tried the underground ones though...

Ah, a lot. According to EA, this game will be avaliable on:

PS1, PS2, PS3, PSP, XBox, XBox 360, Wii, Gamecube, DS, Gameboy Advance, PC CD (PC DVD if you buy a collector's edition, which I have it) and even...Mobile...

Pontiac GTI is still in the game and you can't have it unless you're a cop--it's a lvl 3 and lvl 4 cop's car. Well, I don't know if it can be unlocked...But I'll check gamefaqs.com to update my memory.

Thanks to igyman. Well, I almost finished the game (About 86%) and I'm going to beat Darius there--Well, I bought a Mercedes Benz McLaren SLR (Which rocks) and began to put on the perfomance parts one by one--I'm a little short on cash and I don't want to sell cars. Well...I just finished the most dreaded race--Canyon Drifting! Man. I restarted a million times (Give or take 10 times) and finally won and achieved my target--a Transmission Tier 3 Race Package. When I hurried to safe house and want to put it on, and found I have insufficient cash to buy it...Man.

Heya

Picked the game up today...

And I have 2 problems/questions:

-I chose 'Tuner' cars, bought 'my' Eclipse, and tried to upgrade it. But I then got the cool looking 'lock' icons blocking my path.

I have done some races to unlock those parts, for example, the Tier 1 tires. But when I want to buy them, I can't. Is this a bug, or is the Mitsubishi 'godlike' Eclipse considered to be an exotic car now? :xp:

-Already at 16%. What the hell is going on? Played it 3 hours: 16%. Please, tell me there something more to it.

I got the demo off XBL, and gave it a go. I wasn't that impressed. The driving controls/physics is horrible in my opinion, but I could just be used to Project Gotham Racing.

I think I'll pass on Carbon. The series went downhill since Hot Pursuit for the Playstation.

Hi, welcome to NFS Carbon world. For your problems, I'm not sure, but however I offer you some of my ideas:

1. Well, Mitsubishi Eclipse GT(If it is what you have) is a Tuner Tier 2 car. No wonder why you can't use Tier 1 Tires on them. If you want the tires, you have to unlock Tier 2 Tires.

2. Well, if you got Eclipse GT, then how the hell is it 16%?! Strange. Can you give me a screenshot of your worldmap in Career mode?

I got the demo off XBL, and gave it a go. I wasn't that impressed. The driving controls/physics is horrible in my opinion, but I could just be used to Project Gotham Racing.

Pardon me, can I play Project Gotham Racing in PC? I wanted to give it a shot, but I don't know if it runs on PC.

Currently, the Bushido leader has challenged me, and I have done all the races in the 'middle' area of the map, except for the drift-races.

About the GT...thanks...I was just wondering :)

O yeah...do you have to unlock the upgrades every time you get a new car, or are they global? Just asking, since I unlocked stuff miltiple times...

Thanks for the Mitsubisi answer. I'll go and play now...(after seeing Pure Pwnage 12, o'course :xp: )

I don't know, it doesn't look all that. Maybe its because of weak advertising? I don't know what's so different about this release, wasn't that rally racing or something? New cars? :p

In my opinion, the best game in the series has been and will always be Hot Pursuit. It was simply the pwnage.

No. For example, once you unlocked a Tier 2 Tires Pro Package, not only your Mitsubishi can use it, but also the Ford Mustang GT (It's a tier 2 car, too) can use the same upgrades.

Enjoy gaming!

Game progress update: Last night I reached the finale, I took over Darius' territory and all that's left is to defeat him in a race, unfortunately the !@#$?!! developers decided to put a total of four races in the finale, two against those three bosses I already defeated and then a city race against Darius followed of course by a canyon race. I lost 45 minutes last night trying to defeat him in the !!!&%$@? canyon and failed, now I have to do all four races again. Damn. The game still rocks, though.
