Rogue Nine
Carwyn had his knees up to his chest, his arms wrapped around his legs and he was rocking back and forth, watching the fight unfold. It just seemed to get bloodier and bloodier between the two combatants. Wolf certainly was no slouch and he was definitely giving Xan a good fight. The big warrior wouldn't back down though, pummeling the hirsute con man into submission. By the time the round ended, both men were bloodied and looking completely awful, but Wolf seemed worse off, lying in a heap in the corner. "Don't think he'll be kidnapping anyone soon," Carwyn remarked idly. "I don't think so either," a quiet voice said from his left. Carwyn whirled in the direction of the speaker. To his surprise, Tellis was standing not a foot away from him, arms crossed and observing the fight intently. "Whoa, when did you get here?!" he exclaimed, unable to keep the slight shock out of his voice. He was so used to being able to hear people sneaking up on him and the fact that Tellis seemed to appear out of thin air was incredibly disconcerting to him. "About a minute or two ago," she replied, her voice still unnervingly even. "The fight's been going on for quite some time and they'll probably all need medical attention soon." The bridge of her nose wrinkled a bit at that thought. Carwyn looked back at the ring, where Xan was limping down from his corner. "You can say that again. You might even have to call Dr. Waverly at the rate they're going." "The doctor had to return to the clinic. I might have to help them myself." The ranger's eyes widened. "That's a bummer. What about your---" Carwyn stopped short when he remembered the other assistant that the doctor had had the night before. The one he had just met at the docks. The one that had turned out to be his sister. As if reading his mind, Tellis said, "No, Chris will not be helping either. And I will speak to you about it at a later time." Carwyn opened his mouth to protest, but thought better of it and simply turned back to the fight, his brow furrowed.
ForceFightWMe12
Kyo twisted at his glove, examening the tooth holes as the fight progressed. As the rest of the crowd chattered and yelled, his thoughts began to wonder. "He said the same as you. He didn't need anyone, he could handle this on his own. That was the attitude that got him killed!!" The words echoed again and again in his mind, pounding out an incessant rythm that undertoned everything he did. Hardly watching the match anymore, his thoughts found their own path of choice. Had the woman really met his grandfather? Had she been young, like him, when they had first seen each other? Or was she an old woman even then? Was she really the witch that everyone painted her out to be? And what if she was telling the truth? What if his grandfather had sought the blade out as he was now and died because of it? Had the murderers come to silence him? Or steal what he knew? Even so, it had now become apparent. Kyo's time as a one-man show had come to an end. He needed help. But how to get it? It was obvious from their visit to the old woman's that Aya would be crucial to whatever was going to come. Carwyn would come in handy as well - he was a good fighter, and a handy tracker. The swordsman only had to catch one glance of the way that the ranger looked at Aya to know that wherever she went, he would follow willingly. The same seemed to go for Akira. And Aya...he hated to break a promise, but if worse came to worse, he would always be able to hang the coin over her head... Tellis was another prospect. A healer would come in handy on their journey - especially if they were attacked as they had been on the way out of port. How he would persuade her to join was still a mystery. Hadn't the woman mentioned something about wind and fire? That meant Hoshiko and Toa. Perhaps they would work for money?
Master_Archon
The 'squirrel' had remained on the streetpost when the two left, it was getting tired of scurrying around trying to keep close to them. So it went for the better option, survey them from atop the post. It was still as passionate, and intent as ever, it's eyes focused, yet unfocused on any one thing. It stared at them, or as close to a concentrated stare as it's unfocused eyes would stare. It squinted at them as the swordsman fellow returned, and as the fight progressed it kept it's gaze upon them. After the fight, the squirrel decided it had observed enough, it scampered down the post, and into a back alley. Not long after an old man came out of the alley, though he was not quite the same old man who'd come into town, no, he was different. He lacked a bearskull, and his robes were quite a bit more torn than his original, and they were made of sackcloth, and not fine linen. His staff was now nothing more than a simple wooden walking stick, and his 'antlers' were gone. He still had his sword, which would probably be the only thing to give him away, that is, if it weren't so well hidden upon his bodous. This was how the old fellow often appeared in town on the rare occasion, for Druids were rare, and had no distinguishing robes or implements to set them apart, unlike the other mancy users, but could still be pointed out in a crowd if there were people around who'd seen a Druid before, or who had a well trained eye. So to avoid staring and whispering and the other nuisances of walking around in his normal garb, he often walked about in this fashion, within town. The old fellow shuffled along, approaching the bunch at the stall. He tapped on one of their shoulders, with a smile he asked, "excuse me, but do you have anything for sale?" His voice didn't quite show his age, but he definately had tinge of wisdom in it. His light green eyes sparkled with youth, yet they were faded with age, and behind the kind stare was a slight glint of mischief. But above all, his eyes were very similar to that of the creatures from before, intent, seeing much, yet focusing on nothing, and forever unblinking. ((Got kinda tired of having the Druid play the observer, so I decided to include him in the only way I could find to introduce him.))
Jason Skywalker
Akira sensed someone tap his shoulder and looked around seeing a seemingly man, perhaps in his 80's or so, maybe younger, asking them if they had anything for sale. "Erm," He whispered at Aya.
JasraLantill
Aya was thankful to be roused from watching the fight. It was getting too bloody for her and she was thankful for a distraction, and even more so for a customer. She stepped down from her perch on the driver's seat and greeted the gentleman. He looked a bit odd to her, but she couldn't quite put her finger on what it was that made her think so. But just as she was about to ask what kind of items he was looking for, Bob backed up from where he was tied... and, almost purposefully, pushed into the man. Then Bob whipped his head around to face the Druid. The pony flattened his ears, and snorted menacingly. "Bob! Back off!" Aya said, quickly jumping down from the wagon and smacking the pony's backside with her hand to try to spur him to move out of the way. "And quit being so... rude! She gave the man an apologetic grin. "Sorry about that, sir," she said, as she threw her back against the pony in a vain attempt to push him back. "He's not normally so obstinate. So, what kind of things are you looking for?" she asked him, while she continued to push against Bob's bulk. "I don't have many things left, but if you step up here in the wagon, you can have a look for yourself."
steven
Jonas walked up to Akira and Aya, in his left hand was a bottle of beer and in his right was an apple. "Isn't that... one of the people who came here with us? Fighting in the ring, cause I have this feeling I know him from somewhere."
ForceFightWMe12
"That's Xan, the guard." Kyo answered, still not quite all there. There was much to be planned. Pulling out the puzzle given to him by the old woman and the translated manuscript, he focused on the last few lines. Though heav'n oft defeat me, The more there is, the less you see. It was the riddle that would help him unlock this cylinder, he was sure. The answer to it, however, wouldn't be quite so easy. It had to fit into the spaces provided, and each ring had the full alphabet on it. He certainly wasn't getting any help with this one.
Master_Archon
The man smiled as the pony pushed on him and glared angrily, it seemed. "Bob! Back off!" the merchant said, quickly jumping down from the wagon and smacking the pony's backside with her hand to try to spur him to move out of the way. "And quit being so... rude!" She gave the man an apologetic grin. "Sorry about that, sir," she said, as she threw her back against the pony in a vain attempt to push him back. "He's not normally so obstinate. So, what kind of things are you looking for?" she asked him, while she continued to push against Bob's bulk. "I don't have many things left, but if you step up here in the wagon, you can have a look for yourself." The man only brimmed with kindness, "that'd be fine." The man stepped forward, but the pony, Bob, seemed to get more agitated as he came closer. The man only focused his seemingly unfocused gaze upon Bob. "Calm yourself, friend," he said with a smile, patting Bob's back, the pony seemed to calm with his words and touch. "That's better," he replied, with a glowering smile, and one more friendly pat. The old fellow stepped up into the wagon, he acted the part of an old man well, but he seemed very light and easy in his ascent into the wagon. He looked around the wagon, not quite looking for anything in particular, though in reality, he was stalling for as much time as his musing would allow. "Hm? Hhhmmm?.....Ah...er, no....Hum?" The man hum-hawed around, looking aimlessly here and there. He straightened up turning back to the merchant, "well, I can't seem to find things on my own very well, could you tell me what you have at the moment." He asked with his ever present, and sincere smile. ((Sorry for controling Bob, [in a sense] but Yosho is a Druid after all. But if you mind Jasra, then I'll edit. ))
ForceFightWMe12
Kyo smirked faintly as Bob first attacked the old man, then as Aya continued to struggle with the pony as the man went searching through her stocks, himming and hawing as if he were truely senile. He distracted his eyes by twirling the rings around the cylinder until he noticed that one towards the end stuck half way around. Frowning, he turned it on its side...and noticed that Aya's coin wasn't fully fitted in. The leather thong that was tied through its middle lifted it slightly out of the impression. Tugging gently on the strap, he pulled the coin out and began to pull the leather out.
Grace
Xan got down from the stage, sitting down weakly, fatigue was written all over his features. He leaned against the side of the stage, breathing rapidly and heavily, his wounds still bleeding, as they didn't seem to be coagulating. Xan looked over at Takara, giving a tired smile, "how'd I do?" Takara was pale. Katsuro stared in shocked silence. Slowly, he reached for his slingshot, but Takara caught the gesture and rebuked him with a single foreign word. The boy's hand snapped away from his weapon and he took a step back. Turning back to Xan, Takara shook her head. "You're a fool," she snapped. "A very lucky fool. What are you sitting here for? Those injuries need looking after..." Her face crossed with lines of concern as she looked around and murmured, "Now, where is a doctor?"
Master_Archon
Xan breathed in sharply as he attempted to get up, but found that he was too weak, the lack of adrenaline in his body, the loss of blood, the fight in general, had all weakened him to exhaustion. "Well...a fool I may be....but it's not because I choose to be one......I happen to be a bit tired right now," replied Xan in short gasps. Xan glanced over at Katsuro, he wondered why he had reached for his weapon, Wolf was down and out, and Crispin was...well Xan knew Crispin wasn't in any shape to do much for the moment, and Wolf's lackeys' were quite busy with the unconcious Wolf. But Xan would worry about that later, right now he needed to consentrate on staying awake, going to sleep in these situations could be fatal, as he had learned. Xan stared at Takara his face turning concerned as well, but for different reasons. "Don't worry, I'll be fine...common, smile, you look prettier with a smile on your face," he said with a crooked grin, his eyelids fluttering as he attempted to keep himself awake, his delerious state making him a bit more open, but not by much. JasraLantill
"Well," said the old man, "I can't seem to find things on my own very well, could you tell me what you have at the moment." Aya was about to show him some of her wares, when she caught out of the corner of her eye, Kyo removing her leather strap from her coin. "Hey!" she said, frowning slightly. "I said you could borrow that, Kyo, not... take it apart!" She glared at him, then turned back to the man. "Well," she said to him, flicking her gaze to Kyo now and again, "I've got a few household items left--cutlery, bowls, cooking knives, a few weapons...." She pulled out a ceremonial knife, more of an artefact than a useable weapon. "You might find this to your liking," she suggested. Bob bumped up behind her again, seemingly intent on rocking the wagon, and she smacked him away again. "Here," she said, handing the blade to him. She turned to Bob, and then walked towards his head. "What is wrong with you?" she hissed softly at him. "He's a customer!" Bob snorted in her face. Aya rolled her eyes. "Just..." She was flustered for words. "Stay. Stay, Bob, stay." Bob tilted his head, eyeing her at an odd angle, then shook his shaggy mane and turned away from her. "Sorry," Aya apologised again to the man. "Let me see what else I can find that you might be interested in." She rummaged around and found her arrows, and bow strings and other items that she thought he might like, all the while keeping a close eye on Kyo and her coin. Grace
Takara offered a half-smile, but her face was still lined with worry. "Lie down... and don't move, I'll be right back." She took two steps away, but turned back. "Katsuro, make sure he doesn't move." Katsuro nodded and stood by Xan, waiting for his mother to return. As he watched the guard in silence, his eyes narrowed ever so slightly. Then, he spoke. "She cares about you," he said quietly. "I've never seen her that upset... unless she's talking about dad... but even that's a different upset. I've never seen her this way..." His voice faded to nothing and he stared after his mother. Master_Archon
"Oh, this knife is from the north? Wonderous, mm, quite a good find you have here, good condition for an artifact...hm, but for the moment I have no use for a ceramonial blade of the order of hitokui," the man replied. "No, indeed not, much blood is on that blade, many lives taken for the cause of, 'food'," the man retorted. The man paused thinking over his words for a moment, "oops, there I go spewing knowledge I shouldn't be, senile ol' me, well anywho," he said jovially. He eyed the weaponry implements that the merchant showed him, then eyed the merchant, "now, now, why would an old foagie like me want anythin' to do with weapons? But besides the point, why would a pretty young lass like you want to even have anything close to weaponry around you?" The man asked in a kind but fatherly tone. "I'm surprised you don't look into the artifacts that you purchase more carefully, that blade is not something you want around you, a curse it has, put upon it by a shaman of the hitokui, the order of cannibalism," he said in a voice of mock menace, though his statements were true...to a point. "Here, I'll take it off your hands, thus lifting the curse," he said, reaching into his robes and pulling out a small sack of silver coins. "That should more than pay for it," he said with a smile, then he slipped the knife into his robes, "I'll dispose of it later." "Now tell me girl, why would you have such things?" He returned to his previous tangent, as well as his stern fatherly tone, though it still held great kindness in it. The man smiled, "ah, but who'm I kiddin', I'm not 'ur father, no, good merchant he was though," he said, a glint of mischief flashing across his faded eyes. But indeed he had met Aya's father, but it was brief, and only because her father was in town one day long ago when the old fellow came into town on the rare occasion. He had wanted to buy some simple implements, and found Aya's father to have good prices, he talked briefly with him, bought his stuff and left, nothing more. "But here I go, saying things I shouldn't," he said with a sigh. ____________________ "She cares about you," Katsuro said quietly. "I've never seen her that upset... unless she's talking about dad... but even that's a different upset. I've never seen her this way..." Katsuro's voice faded to nothing and he stared after his mother. Xan looked up at Katsuro, his face turned to a look of concern again. "I could say I care for her too, and I do...but fate played me a devistating hand in my past, I can't change it....and I can do no more but care for her, unless fate changes, or I fulfill a promise I made, long ago......you'll keep this under your hat for now, okay?" He asked sternly. He gave Katsuro a long hard stare, then his gaze softened, "Now you listen here Katsuro," Xan said in a mock tone of comand. "I know I'm not your father, but I want you to do one thing for me....grow up strong! Be strong in life, but use your head, not your fists to grow strong; protect others, that is a great strength; and when you finally find a woman you care for, make sure you truely love her, and when you have found that you do, marry her quickly, before fate deals you a cruel hand," he said at last, his voice trailing off. "I was not so lucky, you hear?" he whispered, telling Katsuro more than asking the last comment. Xan stared off, and it seemed like hours passsed before he spoke up again. "So, what were you gonna do with that slingshot?" He asked, going down a whole different conversation avenue.

3yks
Kai hadn't watched the last round, hadn't got up infact. The ten minutes to the next round ticked by rapidly, and the Blacksmith came over, nudging him with his toe. "Uh, Kai, y'gonna get back in the ring? Crispin is awake." Kai jumped up, blood was drooling down from his lip, he smiled, his teeth bloody. "Ah, Kai will finish Crispin then." Kai nodded, and seemed ... fine, he turned and climbed into the ring. He looked around, more blood up here, he saw the faint glint of a metal near a large pooling of the blood that had been mostly cleaned up in the ten minutes. He looked over at Xan laying on the bench and turned back to Crispin. He bowed, his hands pacled togethor as he did so. "Are you ready, Crispin?" his voice was ... different, calm, focused. "I am going to kill you." He whispered, very softly. Crispin looked confused, had he heard right? But Kai was on him too fast, his fists flying, pummeling the lesser wolf, a feirce intensity in his movements that were very different than his earlier, almost lazy style of fighting. Each blow made Crispin stumble, and rebound. He blocked some blows, but most landed. It was unlike how Xan had fought though. Xan had been a bull, angery and unleashed upon his victim. Kai was composed, centered. He didn't rage, he considered every blow, and each struck with great force. Crispin finally fellt o his knee, and the bell rang. Kai backed off. "Get up Crispin, I'm not done." Crispin was near that bloody puddle, and his hand had felt the little metal blade, he picked it up, his fingers worked it between his fingers. His father had cheated and lost, but he would not. Crispin rose rapidly and jumped at Kai, taking him a little off guard. His fists pummeled at Kai, each one leaving a bloody wound in it's wake. ForceFightWMe12
"I'm not taking it apart." Kyo answered, smirking faintly, "I'm just...rearranging things." Slipping the leather strap around his neck, he turned back to the puzzle in his hand, testing the rings. Each section spun freely now. Hearing Bob snort and struggle with Aya, Kyo sighed. Hopping down off the back of the wagon, he leaned against the horse to keep him calm and steady, his green eyes still trained on the puzzle as if the answer would simply spring out at him. "Easy, Bob." he murmured softly.

Rogue Nine
While Aya had her attentions focused on her enigmatic new customer (whom Bob did not seem to like at all), Carwyn and Tellis had moved closer to the ring to better observe the last bit of fighting between Crispin and Kai. As the younger Wolf lashed out at Kai, bloody streaks appeared on the eyepatched fighter where Crispin's blows had landed. "He's cheating," Tellis said as they approached the corner where Xan was being watched over by Katsuro; Takara was probably off finding something to help Xan with his wounds. "No kidding," Carwyn replied, frowning as he observed the fight. He caught a shining glint in one of Crispin's fists. "He's using a blade of some sort." Tellis murmured an assent. "I don't think Kai wants us to do anything about it though." "Yeah, I know, fighter's pride and all that. I just hope he doesn't end up getting his throat slit while he's playing around with that oaf."
JasraLantill
Gabe, having volunteered his services as an assistant referee, suddenly held up his hand, then waved the Blacksmith over. Words were exchanged. Fingers pointed urgently. Then, the Blacksmith, grabbed hold of the back of Crispin's tunic and roughly pulled him away from Kai. "Cheat!" he announced to the crowd, holding up the small blade . Then he grabbed Kai's blood stained arm. "The winners!" he announced. The crowd roared with cheers. (And then the money started changing hands.) Crispin and Wolf, on the other hand, were not happy with the outcome. "Liar!" Wolf challenged. "That blade was planted!" "Yes, by you!" Gabe retorted indignantly, jutting out a brave chin. Wolf glared hard at the old man. "And can you prove this, old man?" Gabe looked unsure. "Maybe." Wolf wiped blood from the corner of his mouth. "'Maybe' isn't proof." He looked towards the Lord Mayor. "And what do you think, my lord?" The crowd went silent as the Lord Mayor was put on the spot. "Erm...." He cleared his throat. "If there is no concrete proof, then there has been no violation." The crowd started to boo. Loudly. "But...!" the mayor interjected. "The decision still stands based on the previous two rounds. Xan and... " He waved his hand at Kai, having forgotten his name. "...his partner are declared the winners!"
3yks
Kai frowned very faintly as Crispin was pulled off of him. But he shifted it quickly into a broad grin ... he was cut up pretty bad, but he just ignored the wounds, waving to the crowd as they were declared winners. "Kai thanks all of these people for all of these people's cheers!" He called out, then bowed deeply. "Kai thinks that perhaps Kai needs to find some bandages though," Kai bowd again, and started to head off through the crowd's, they parted for him. He was heading toward the road out of town ... not where he could get any of the medical attention it was obvious he needed. A few people in the crowd heard his soft muttering to himself, "Shoulda killed Crispin, shoulda killed him. I wanted to kill him." That ... other voice, was a little disconcerting, and those that heard him shifted a bit farther away. At the edge of the crowd Kai turned, and waved, a broad grin on his lips. One of the town folk who had over heard him had moved over toward the referee's. He was a local farmer and knew Gave, leaning over and whispering that Kai wasn't right. That they should get him fixed up, not just let him wander off ... but that he wasn't about ot go over there and tell him that. And wondered if perhaps Gabe would ask Aya to ask some of her large friends to stop him and get him to see a healer.
JasraLantill
The man smiled, "Ah, but who'm I kiddin'? I'm not 'ur father, no. Good merchant he was though," he said, a glint of mischief flashing across his faded eyes. "But here I go, saying things I shouldn't," he said with a sigh.Aya viewed the strange man with renewed interest. "You knew my father?" Before the man could answer though, the crowd began to cheer raucously and Aya's attention (as well as most everyone else's) was drawn to what was taking place in the ring. Kai and Xan had been declared the winners of the match. But then some people in the crowd began to boo, and Aya heard part of the exchange between Gabe and Wolf. This worried her. Gabe was an old man, true, and probably didn't really care what Wolf thought about him, but Gabe also still had to live in this community after the Quarter Market festivities had died down. And Wolf was one to hold a grudge. Finally the cheer arose again as the Lord Mayor, in a reluctant sort of way, upheld the Blacksmith referee's decision. Kai's arm was raised in victory, then he bowed, hopped down from the ring, and began to make his way through the crowd of 'fans'. Aya thought it was slightly strange that Kai didn't seem to be worried at all about his injuries, which even from this distance looked like they might need the ministrations of Doc Waverley, or at least his assistant, Tellis. But, she had a customer, Kyo still had her coin, and she was reluctant to just go charging after someone to offer them help when ,one, she didn't know them and, two, didn't know how they might react. Perhaps Kai was too proud to have someone fussing over him, she thought. Just then, there was a shrill whistle from the ring. She turned to see Gabe and, standing next to him, one of Renn's serving girls. Gabe waved at her. "Hey, Aya! Tell the lad he's welcome to the victory celebration at Renn's place!" he called out to her. Aya grinned. Perfect excuse to approach and possibly help Kai. "Excuse me," she said to the Druid. "I'll be right back." She grabbed her water flask and dashed away. Pushing her way through to the edge of the crowd, she soon caught up to Kai. "Hey, there!" she called out to him. "Great fight. You really gave Crispin what for. There's a celebration at the Smoking Dragon. You're invited." She paled then, suddenly realising exactly how much blood Kai was covered in, and indeed was still losing, and she swallowed back bile. "Erm... do you need some help? Need a drink of water?" She offered her flask to him. And then promptly fainted.

Rogue Nine
Tellis and Carwyn had a hard time moving towards Kai, as the crowds were surging back and forth in all different directions in the wake of the fight. They spotted the enigmatic fighter weaving his way through the masses, still covered in blood. "You'd think he didn't want to be helped at the rate he's going," Carwyn remarked to Tellis as he pushed forward. Tellis said nothing and merely pointed ahead. Carwyn looked in the direction she was pointing and saw that Aya had caught up with Kai and was talking to him. She pulled something out of her pocket and offered it to him. Carwyn's eyes went wide as she then crumpled to the ground. Dashing to her side, Carwyn looked down at her pale face, but noted with relief that she was still breathing. Kai was there too, looking intently at her, her flask in his hand; he'd managed to catch it from her hands as she fell. Carwyn eyed the man's wounds, they were quite awful. Scooping up the unconscious merchant in his arms, he said, "I think she's all right, she just gets really squeamish at the sight of blood." He nodded to Tellis, who had appeared at Kai's side. "Tellis here should be able to mop you up good as new." Pushing towards the Smoking Dragon, he gestured with his head. "C'mon, let's head over that way, we should be able to set everyone right at the inn."
