Mature\Adult Star Wars stories

In the prequals, as well as games such as Sith Lords, the tone has become quite a bit darker and more mature than the lightheartedness of the orignal films and cartoonish nature of the spin offs. It reminds me of hearing about the Punisher character, whose normal comics were bad enough but had a miniseries, called Born, which portrays him in Vietnam. If you look up the covers for these (depicting a deeply traumatised soldier, worms and worse) you get a good idea of what they're like. Vietnam at it's worse, with all the violence, controversy and darkness that comes with it. Would something along these lines appeal to people at all?

Stories here on the forums have to be appropriate for young teens, i.e. rated PG-13/teen. Stories with graphic violence, gore, sexual themes/content, and anything else inappropriate for the teen age group can't be posted here.

Darker themes are fine as long as they stay within those guidelines.

The Empire Strikes Back was quite a bit darker than the other two films of the OT, and is also my personal favorite. This didn't stop it from having its moments of comic relief and romance, all done in a distinctly non-cheesy, watchable fashion. All of this combined to make it easily the best film of the saga, so I'm all for a darker, more brooding, more mature Star Wars, sans the the spear-chucking teddy bears, Jar Jar Binks and awkward, cheesy romance.

Personally I don't have problems with violent or sexual content, as long as it "fits" and isn't made ridiculous.

I fully agree. If a movie's point is being violent, then it better be. 300, any Quentin Tarantino, war movies, etc. are meant to be ultra violent.

Sex also can be quite fitting. If the movie is about sexual relations (not porn mind you) and it has many scenes, what the hell do you want?

Nudity alone can be art or portrayed in a manner that is unoffensive. Or so I hope. I've heard a lot of good things about this movie named "Cashback" about a guy working at a supermarket who undresses women in his mind. He looks upon the female body for the beauty and not to be sexually aroused, like a painter would. Of course some people won't go beyond the "boobies" and look for the poetic significance...

Of course, sex without point just shows that you're a poor director. I remember this interview with Uwe Boll about "Bloodrayne". He kept mentioning that Kristanna Loken was going to be in a fully nude sex scene. Yeah...that's just stupid...

Anyway, if Star Wars got more violent, I guess I wouldn't mind. However, it might change the tone, the atmosphere. It depends I guess. A story about front line soldiers in the Galactic Civil War where there would be a large amount of gore would make sense I guess.

Hmm, I could write such a fic but there was another I was looking at doing, with Vader being taken to task over killing Padme, and how it affects him, that I've done nothing about. I was thinking more if maybe there was a proper comic for example that, while not explicit as some have pointed out, dealt with violence and dark tones in a very gritty way. I think in the Born comics there's a scene with American soldiers killing Vietnamese civillians, including children, something that was only implied in RotS. I doubt we'd ever see such works but, while I have opposition to this, things like RotS and Sith Lords might be a step in that direction.

Pfft. That's like a guy saying "I look at Hustler for the articles". :D

Good Gawd: as if the Prequels haven't cheapened Star Wars enough already. While I advocate it being darker, I think that blatant sexuality should be kept out, as it would ruin what's left of the saga. GL has already gone far enough with Padme's peek-a-boo clothing in Episode II. Isn't what they've done to Battlestar Galactica enough?

I'm all for darker more realistic atmosphere in Starwars, yet at the same time I don't want starwars to cease being starwars.

I would have to agree with Qliveur and Vaelastraz. A darker tone or theme could definitely make Star Wars better if it is well done. I didn't really understand everything in TSL at first, but when I started to understand it, I loved how the themes and story went. They explored the issues of morality, beliefs, and the force to a much deeper level then what we normally see in an average Star Wars movie or game. Even though it took Star Wars in a new direction to me, it was still "Star Wars", because morality and perspective is what Star Wars is all about. What I want in a Star Wars game is to further go toward this direction, while still keeping the light heartedness that Star Wars portrays, using characters such as Han Solo and HK-47.

Personally, I love the classical, light-hearted feel of the Original Star Wars-es. Dark themes really don't appeal to me as much- I very much prefer the original trilogy to the prequels (very much because of the lighthearted and innocent tone they set), and I also am far more attracted to KotOR I as opposed to TSL (mostly because I like KotOR I's traditional big-villain setup and clear-cut good and evil sides).

That's not to say I don't enjoy the prequels or TSL, but I enjoy the originals of both KotOR and the movies far more than the darker subsequent productions.

They appealed to me. :)

As long as they do not have any love scenes (I still see them as not very fun...), as long as they don't have too much violence and gore...as long as they focus on the truly philopshical questions and pretty scary themes, I'm for it.

Ditto, I like good games, with not too much gore and romance. :)

The Punisher is an awesome characater, just like Wolverine.

SW is good at pulling a lot of horrible things off-screen or giving you just enough information to make you cringe. You hear the scream, but you don't see the blood. You see Jabba lick what passes for lips while oogling his slaves but you don't have to see him getting perverted - your brain pencils it in for you.

The Expanded U has more room to lay the cards on the table than movies, of course, but it's still mostly innuendo. KOTOR is a prime example - Juhani and Belaya's "companionship," Xor's comment about Cathar females making good "pets," Atton's former "career," Davik's "massage parlor," etc.

^^^ Wait, you mean Belaya as in Bastila? and what "companionship"!? Ugh, I feel so in the dark about this; how did I miss that in my playthrough?

Nope. Belaya as in the gal that upbraids you for not wearing the proper attire when you step foot in the Dantooine Enclave. You only find out about it if you decide to kill Juhani in the grove. Belaya admits Juhani "was...a dear companion to me. We spent many nights alone, under the stars." Then, she hollars at you and is waiting for you on Korriban, having fallen to the Dark Side over the loss of Juhani.

And, playing female, Juhani can also make a good pass at your character after you choose LS at the temple top.
