Transformers

[Try and keep spoilers to a minimum please]

Just saw the movie 30 minutes ago, and all I have to say is...

Awesome. Looks like Michael Bay wont be lynched after all.

But, for anybody wondering, it earns its PG-13 rating. So, think twice if you are going to take your young kids to see it. A lot of violence, language, suggestive humor, and things that go boom.

Positive:

- Absolutely amazing special effects, humor in all the right places, and a good balance between humans and machines.

Neutral:

- Some cheesy dialog from the Transformers, but it is put to enough of a degree that reminds you that it is after all Transformers.

- The story had a few things good and bad... but hey, its Transformers. Compaired to the old cartoons it was fantastic.

- Optimus Prime's face... Hmmm. Interesting concept, and they do it well, but it has a look about it that is kind of amusing, cool, yet painful to watch.

- Fantastic acting from some, lacking from others.

Negative:

- If you are not familiar with Transformers at all... then a lot of what is in the movie is going to get you off track at times. There is some good enough explanation in it, but possibly not enough to really engage someone who is simply going to the movie for the hell of it.

If you are not a good to hardcore fan of Transformers, then you may find the movie interesting but not enough to make your jaw drop. If you are a fan, then you may, like me and the rest of my premiere theater, give a standing ovation.

4.5 out of 5 Stars.

9/10

2 Thumbs Up

You know, If Prime ever saw this Review, he'd probably be really upset with you. Because as far as I can tell, he is a REAL Transformers fan.

Upset? I would hope not :p

I have enough Transformers to fill 3 good sized boxes, the entire Beast Wars series, and a bit of other Transformers episodes... do I count as a real fan? *cry* :xp:

Although, I may not count because I have bewbs.

^ Alright, you're a fan... regardless if you're a girl. And if it makes you feel any better, I'm not a fan. I did like the movie a lot, however. So I'm starting to have some interest in the concept at least.

I've always wondered: are Transformers and Beast Wars the same thing?

Yes, Transformers and Beastwars are the same series, but they are different versions of it. TF is in the present day, and BW is back during the dinosaurs era.

Girl transformer fans do count, perhaps more than guy fans because they are more rare, much like female autobots. hehe

Prime's currently on a groupie binge....give the man a break....he's been waiting 20 YEARS for this very opportunity for babe-a-licious adoration.

mtfbwya

What? Elvis hasn't left the building (movie theatre) yet?!? :p Guess he's gonna watch a couple a six times or so before his wife and child see him again (less they're playing hooky, too). Ah, fanboyism..... ;)

OK, Prime......where's your review?
I have to see it first! It isn't out here until tomorrow, and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. But don't worry, you'll here from me. :)

Naw, people can think what they like...

Because as far as I can tell, he is a REAL Transformers fan.
Not as big as you might think. Basically, I loved them as a kid, but I don't collect them or otherwise really follow things now. It is more of a nostalgia thing for me. I still have all my old stuff though...

Although, I may not count because I have bewbs.
I thought having bewbs made everything count :)

Thanks for understanding!

Quite possibly. :D

It's a Michael Bay film first off - so most of the human characters are pretty much transplants from an Irwin Allen disaster movie with the Deceptagons as the disaster. You have Army Guys , Government Guys , the "hackers" , and the Ordinary Kids . Don't expect much for any kind of acting range or genuine character exploration - even from the Transformers.

I was squeeing with joy when Optimus opened his mouth and I hard Peter Cullen. That was the biggest thrill. Cullen's VO work on the character in the original was what MADE Optimus. It's as much that character as the red Mac Truck.

Not so thrilled with Bumblebee as a Camaro. Ok, so it was for a teenaged boy, and they needed something "cooler" than the classic little bug. Still...I really liked the bug. They did get his smart-ass streak down, though.

I laughed my head off when Sam was in his room looking for those glasses, and then his parents went to check on him and they thought he was "playing the trumbone" and found that girl in his bedroom.

I thought that really captured a typical family moment around those people, and also something you'd see in American Pie.

I was saying that to someone the other day. It is, to a lesser extent, equivalent to James Earl Jones and Vader.

I'm actually kinda wanting to watch this movie again... the entire time I was bothered by a kid and what I can only assume to be his parents in the back... asking questions the entire time... and the kid restated the dialogue right after a character would say something...

"What'd he say?"

*repeat line*

"What's going on?"

*answer*

Whoever was behind me must also have been in the running to replace Captain Obvious... as he would also state directly what was happening on the bloody screen.

"Omg look he's going to find the ________."

ps.

They tried really really hard to make sure that no humans died in the midst of the giant robo gladiator matches... so far as to several Transformers fall right by humans, but never on them. :p Still find it hard to believe that nobody's dead.

Hmmm... I wanted to see Die Hard... My friends convinced me to see transformers with them instead...

I have to say it was better than I expected... but I didn't expect a whole lot.

The action sequences sucked because there really wasn't a lot of detail, mostly blurry metal until one of them gets thrown into/onto something (like a cartoon catfight, ball of smoke with parts sticking out here and there).

Okay, I admit I'm not a transformers fanboy with +20Knowledge:Canon but why the heck was the medic bot even in the movie? All I can remember him doing was running around one of the decepticons (maybe he was taking potshots, but wasn't very effective) while the "gunslinger" seemed to be doing most of the engaging.

You're the freaking medic! Go get Bumble back in action! Durrr. Other than that I really can't remember him having a purpose. Maybe one of those Gurlformers in Aash's sig would've actually done something more effective (Side note: If there are "female" transformers, why not in the movie?).

The already stated unoriginal character/plot package.

There were a lot of random small things that were just annoying.

Aside from Prime's alter ego, the other shiny new vehicles were pretty lame.

"Oh look, awesome musclecar 'forms to mint condition posermobile!"

I liked the classic camaro, but I'd prefer a "bug" over the camaro remake.

GM!!! CHEVROLET!!! WOOHOOOO!!!!!

Product placement was just moronic, even if it is a "toy" movie.

Watchyaself! It's a Nokia!!! *teh Gaspzorz*

Aside from the above, I absolutely loved the movie.

Wish I'd given Die Hard a chance first and came back for transformers, but it was worth it.

Go popcorn movies go!

You're right, when you sit down and go through all of the points of the movie, it h as a lot of downsides, but then again so does the original series and the original movie too so I found it best to understand and ignore.

Others won't be as forgive as a lot of us here have but *shrugs* what can ya do.
