adamqd
I personally have had no time for Star Trek, its very Existence conflicts with my Star wars drenched brain. If this prequel is nothing like whats come before maybe I could watch it... But I very much doubt it (Not saying sci-fi fans can't swing both ways, but I'm strictly SW)
Prime
Still, this is better than if they had them running around and senior citizens. Oh wait...
tk102
Jediphile peed on my Cheerios. I hope they include this guy somehow: I never did see the episode where he appeared but he's on the closing credits every time.

If this prequel is nothing like whats come before maybe I could watch it... But I very much doubt it (Not saying sci-fi fans can't swing both ways, but I'm strictly SW) I've never understood the "rivalry" between Trek and Star Wars and particularly among the fan groups. I like both Trek and Star Wars, but I could never tell you which I like more, because to me the two are totally different. To me Trek is classic sci-fi, while Star Wars is heroic fantasy set in space - they have nothing in common, unless you see space travel as meaning they are the same (and therefore sees no distinction between these and, say, Planet of the Apes, 2001, etc., etc.). To compare the two, to me, is like asking whether I like lasagne better than bananas. I can't say, since I see no common frame of reference. But then I'm not a die-hard fan either. Sure, I consume lots of Trek and Star Wars at times, but I'll never wear a Trek uniform in public (nor do I have one in my closet), and I find it utterly annoying when Star Wars fans bring their fake lightsabers to the cinema (and no, not because I don't own one). I'm attracted solely by the plots and the characters. The rest doesn't matter to me. Jediphile peed on my Cheerios. Sorry. My bad.
Mace MacLeod
Gaahhhhhhhh. When are they just going to let Star Trek die with dignity...? I mean, c'mon! James Doohan's gone, the rest of the original cast are ready for senior's discount everywhere, haven't we seen e-bloody-nough of these characters? Didn't they learn their lesson with Enterprise? Yet another chance to boldly go where they've already been a thousand times since the 60's. Bill Shatner is the only Kirk.
Jae Onasi
I'll watch it and enjoy it. Why? Because it's Star Trek and I really like the Star Trek universe. I don't care if it's rehashed--well, OK, maybe if they rehash the one early episode of TNG that a friend of mine dubbed 'The episode on the Planet of Sex and Running', then I might mind, because that one was just stupid. I'll take it as it is, which is just to provide a couple hours' entertainment in the ST universe. It's not designed to win an Oscar. Besides, it's like underwear--we're at home most in the old, well-broken-in whiteys, not the stiffly-starched new stuff.

The rest doesn't matter to me Thats a fair answer, my comment about the trek vs wars was a stereotype, I was using this thread as an excuse to let it be known that I don't like Star Trek ... as a matter of fact, Star Wars is the only "Sci-Fi" (Space opera, fantasy etc) that I like, I just couldn't get in to Trek, Babylon 5, farscape whatever... ps. you can like lasagne more than banana, food groups are irrelivant

Q
I'm with Jae. As long as they don't have some mysterious disease that drives the entire crew mad (how many times did they do that? ) I'll watch it and probably enjoy it.
Jediphile
I'll watch it and enjoy it. Why? Because it's Star Trek and I really like the Star Trek universe. I don't care if it's rehashed You mean you liked Nemesis?!? Because that was such a shame rehash of "Wrath of Kahn" complete with "oh look, hero dies at the end, but can be "revived" in the movie"-ending that it actually hurt. It's not a particularly bad film, but it is so shamefully unoriginal that there should be passed laws against it. The worst was reading how proud Berman was that it was "inspired" but previous trek... Wrath of Khan may be the best Trek film (although I personally like First Contact too), but that's no reason to shamelessly plagiarise it. --well, OK, maybe if they rehash the one early episode of TNG that a friend of mine dubbed 'The episode on the Planet of Sex and Running', then I might mind, because that one was just stupid. What? You mean "Justice" ?? I'd agree it's probably one of the worst TNG episodes (although I like Picard's point at the end, everything up to that is just... blech...), but if you think that represents "bad" in Trek, you obviously haven't seen the original series episode named "Spock's Brain" - a group of aliens paralyze everyone in the Enterprise (I hate when that happens...) and extract Spock's Brain. Fortunately, as the crew hunts the aliens down for Spock's Brain, Dr. McCoy can "treat" Spock's body so they can direct him through remote control. Really, you have to see it to believe it - it's so bad it's good (because it's so kitsch), and you almost think it was directed by Ed Wood I'll take it as it is, which is just to provide a couple hours' entertainment in the ST universe. It's not designed to win an Oscar. Movies that are often pretensious beyond belief IMHO. My standard in the cinema is to be entertained and nothing more. Doesn't sound likely here, though Besides, it's like underwear--we're at home most in the old, well-broken-in whiteys, not the stiffly-starched new stuff. A wee bit more information there than I think we needed... Besides, how am I supposed to enjoy the "good old gang" of Kirk, Spock and Scotty, when it's not the "good old gang", meaning Shatner, Nimoy and Doohan? Jae Onasi
You mean you liked Nemesis?!? I enjoyed all of the movies in varying degrees, though Wrath of Khan was by far the best. What? You mean "Justice" ?? I'd agree it's probably one of the worst TNG episodes (although I like Picard's point at the end, everything up to that is just... blech...) Yep, that would be the one. , but if you think that represents "bad" in Trek, you obviously haven't seen the original series episode named "Spock's Brain" Oh, I didn't say 'Planet of Sex and Running' was the worst, just an episode I didn't want to see rehashed. There was some other episode where Spock gets to wear a stretched-out copper Brillo pad on his head, too--there's another classic baddie. Movies that are often pretensious beyond belief IMHO. My standard in the cinema is to be entertained and nothing more. Doesn't sound likely here, though To each his own. A wee bit more information there than I think we needed... Hey, it's still less than some of the stuff we get around here.... Besides, how am I supposed to enjoy the "good old gang" of Kirk, Spock and Scotty, when it's not the "good old gang", meaning Shatner, Nimoy and Doohan? Think of it as ST EU. I'd actually like to see the Kobayashi Maru scenario played out.
HerbieZ
'The episode on the Planet of Sex and Running'. Vintage TNG. The fact that it was season one and everyone had those really tight uniforms on and the guys wore skirts. It sounds wrong but i really wished the future would be like that when i watched it as a kid. Just so id have the excuse to wear that stuff.
