*Don*
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_World_Order_%28conspiracy%29 What exactly are ur thoughts on the supposed New World Order/Illuminati? Could there really be an underground alliance that controls the world? I know that the Freemasons are already in known existence. Is it possible that they have a hand in it? Jvstice
I seriously doubt it. There's so many areas of control that a person/group would have to control. 1) government 2) economics/finance 3) Education 4) religious life (This is where most people do get their world views. It is a good thing that it seems unlikely that everyone will ever see eye to eye, even if it does cause a lot of strife in every other area of life for us not to be unified even in recognizing the same basic rights worldwide). 5) media/communication - In some countries you have a near universal freedom of expression, in others none. This wouldn't occur if 1 group ruled all. Of course the Disney, Ted Turner, Rupert Murdoch, etc... buy up of a lot of the telecommunications industry does mean that there are less voices out there though. In the U.S. this is a unique situation for a bussiness to be in, because of the 1st ammendment. Because of a guaranteed freedom of speech and deep enough pockets to turn aside law suits, they are the only constitutionally unregulatable bussiness, and thus on their way to becoming monopolies in their own right. I'd say that there might be a wealthy group in the top 5% monetarily close to grabbing an oligarchical grip on the government of the most powerful nation in the world, but that is not remotely the same thing as to say that they own the world or are even close to doing that. Also, the same families that have recently been dominating U.S. politics are not the same ones as dominate the world's telecommunication industries. Also the evangelist organizations largely are in "cold war" with the other groups when they aren't gullible enough to believe that "their" person is in charge of government. Totenkopf
The problem with most conspiracies is that they are long on speculation and short on HARD facts (not necessarily wrong, just unable to prove their case). I think one could make the case for a series of oligarchies exercising a somewhat loose sense of control over global events and resources, often competing with each other as cooperating. Remember the rule: He with the gold (and ruthless backbone, btw) makes the rules.
Arcesious
This kind of thing is too hard to speculate on... There's no hard evidence. I advise that we just avoid these conspiracies and hope for the best. We can't prove anything but possible theories about conspiracies in a discussion such as this, so lets leave the conspiracies to the FBI and the CIA and whoever else deals with this sort of thing. DeadYorick
Personally Don I think youve been playing to much Deus Ex. I think that most government conspiracies are created by people with large imaginations and people with low self esteem begin to believe this truth to be real and it eventually becomes so popular that almost everyone believes in at least one of those conspiracies. Corinthian
But, see, Rakata, that's what they want you to think. By allowing the truth of their existence to be disseminated in games like Metal Gear Solid and Deus Ex, they create a veil of deniability - if someone suggests their existence, others will think, as you do "That guy really needs to stop playing Deus Ex." Jae Onasi
I think the Illuminati is a secret order that's going to manipulate world oil and control gold, silver, and dollar prices to force the world into A New World Order that they can then control via banks and corrupted politicians. Furthermore, they've already infiltrated all the media and religious organizations so that they can manipulate us into accepting ecumenicalism/agnosticism and worshiping Paris Hilton. Then they'll take over World Religions and force us all to worship the Almighty Currency Of Their Choice as the new deity but that will be OK because we'll want to do that anyway. After that they'll implant sensors in all our brains to order us around, too. They'll make us have dinner on the table by 6pm every night, watch state-run TV to pacify us, have nookie every Wednesday and Saturday night to produce our 2.2 children, and contribute to the consumer culture by purchasing what they tell us to purchase so they can make more money manipulating the markets. It's a giant conspiracy, really.
JediMaster12
The Iluminati were originally created as an underground organization. It consisted of learned men who believed in the power of our old friend science. They met to discuss things of scientific nature in secret to hide from the biggest bully at the time...the Roman Catholic Church. Iluminati comes from the word to illuminate or enlighten. This whole business about a secret cult hell bent on taking over the world is a younger generation's lust for power. Such can be said for the Freemasons which originally began as a means of protecting the masons in the Gothic era etc. Like anything else time and twisted sense mind change things from their original meaning, much like trying to use the Bible to justify slavery and apartheid. *Don*
Personally Don I think youve been playing to much Deus Ex. LOL... Nah, I haven't played that in a while. Though, now that u mentioned it, I might go off and do that. At any rate, the real reason why I asked the question was because I was watching David Icke on Youtube. Listen very carefully: that guy is nuttier than a basket of cashews. He's an ex-pool commmentator who went off the rails. He's claimed before now that the British Royal family are seven foot lizards in disguise, who live in the London Underground tunnels when not disguised as humans...He's out there with the LSD-takers seeing spiders crawling under their skin. Jae Onasi
Ahhh.....now we know who stole the minutes from our last meeting. Well, I couldn't let the Illuminati get them, you know. And don't forget to wear the red armband on your left arm to throw them off your scent.
millinniummany3
Is the Illumunati meant to be seperate from the government elite? Because the conspiracy sounds too intelligent for many of the claims that are laid at our leader's feet.

PoiuyWired
You can get a smarter looking one that is just as willing to be controlled, if you only pay a bit more. Get an actor... it worked well time and again. Or, failing that, at least get someone utterly attractive, like that prime minister chick in Ukranie. Arcesious
There are those who conspire, but have little true influential power, besides successfully attempting to incite irrational panic of conspiracies in order to make conspiracies they are planning seem very unlikely, in order to gain power through counter-effective deception.
