between STALKER: Clear Skies, Crysis: Warhead, and Force Unleashed all coming out this month, Spore is on the back burner for me. i'll play it eventually, but i'm getting a feeling that its not going to happen till the beginning of next year given all the new games coming out this year.

heh, who said '07 was the year for gaming when there's so much coming out this year that i'm even more excited about??

Played it.

Rather disappointing, really. The Cell and Creature stages are fun enough, and the Tribal Stage is alright, but the Civilization stage is over ridiculously fast and the Space Stage is just tedious. The game's sections are too short, and there's really not much modification options after you get out of the Creature stage. Tribal Stage? Eight structures. EIGHT. Civilization stage? Four. And you get three units, a Land unit, an Air Unit, and a Naval Unit. Space Stage, there isn't even any customization, it's just get everything you can possibly cram on board your ship with the amount of simoleons you have. I'm already tired of the game.

Well I guess it'll vary in fun-factor for everyone...

When Hell itself freezes over and Satan rides out of the Lake of Fire wearing a Santa Hat, giving candy to all the little children, maybe.

Well, this is Maxis we're on about, and they do know about expansion packs (read: giving people as little as possible for as much as possible).

I dunno, it's definitely a one-of-a-kind game so putting money on it wouldn't such a bad idea, I reckon: what with its multiplayer and community support and whatnot. Most of the reviews and impressions I've seen seem to berate the individual elements, especially the strategy bits.

I did try the Creature Creator and while it was good fun and all, I quickly got bored of it, as it wasn't exactly all that I had expected (they hyped up the game to Jesus-level). I'm intrigued with the second stage of the game where you explore the world and all...

Actually, it's really not all that one of a kind. Play Fishy for an hour, then switch to playing Diablo 2, play that for an hour or two, switch to playing Dawn of War with four different teams of Orks, play Civilization for an hour, and then play Destroy All Humans for the rest of eternity, and you'll get a pretty reasonable facsimile of Spore.

You forgot the Girl-Creation mechanic from Hentai games. :D

Every review I've read has basically said the exact same thing.

Its 5 or so poor games all in one that meld together, and each of the sections has been done much better before.

I'll still be getting it in order to fight races of hyper intelligent DVD players, but other than that it seems like a simple time sink. Very casual player friendly.

3 reasons why Im not buying it for a while

1. Its made by EA, I would rather they not get 50 of my hard earned dollars

2. From what Ive heard its got DRM. If you dont trust me enough not to pirate your game, I dont want it

3. Its too much, like I said, EA doesnt need my 50 or however much it is, they can have like 10 or something in a few years.

Don't like big business? Ironic that you are posting on a Lucas forum.

They have sensor bars over at my Target, Wal-Mart, Hollywood Video, etc. They are there to keep you from walking out with every game you ever wanted. Shall we just not buy from them because they don't trust us not to steal?

Every game has it's own copy of DRM these days. Ever think about what your CD key is for? That's right.

I dont care about the stuff in stores or CD keys, those dont **** me over if my computer finally craps out and prevent me from installing again because I decided to play the game on my dad's computer one day to see what it looked like with full graphics. DRM is like gun control, all it does is create major hassle for legitimate buyers, while creating a minor impediment for criminals.

As for my hatred of EA, its not that its a big business, it would be nearly impossible to live now a days with a blind hatred against big business, its what EA has done to the games industry, how they ruined so many good companies and games with their money only policy. True LA does that to an extent also, but LA still manages to get gems like KotOR out, while EA just has a bunch of sports games that rarely vary from each other in anything but players and cosmetic changes.

Sitherino, he's RIGHT. The DRM in Spore is ridiculous. If I recall correctly, you can only install it three times EVER, uninstalling does not reset it, it has to check in every ten days and on initial install, so if you don't have Internet you're screwed. I THINK that's all, but I'm not entirely certain.
