If anything, you should make another texture for the main hilt, or use a plain brush metal texture. (which you can find easily with a google search)
Canderis Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 It's not flat. It is actually quite detailed.

Canderis Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 You CAN see it. Just not from that view. Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show)
Weavel Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I think he meant more than just the writing, it has nice little glyphs, but it is rather plain.
TriggerGod Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Canderis said: There is more than the glyphs. I can see the detail, but its still hard to see. Like I said, a good brush metal texture wouldn't hurt it at all.

Then you must have X-ray vision or something, because all I can see is some overexposed grey lighting and a blurry inscription. >.>
Salzella Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 ^^ i think not, underexposed if anything. looks like its made of pot metal. looks good though, in a toughened sort of way.

Well, good enough to notice the difference between 2 shades of gray.
TriggerGod Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Darth InSidious said: So two shades of grey == detail now? Its slightly more detail than a MS Paint job. Its still a lack of detail though.

Gradient and brush metal as you mentioned would be a large improvement. Canderis should also consider faux-bumpmapping the lettering, as well.
Canderis Posted August 11, 2009 Author Posted August 11, 2009 It actually was brushed metal. It is just a prototype hilt as it is my experementing with 3ds max's modeling and mapping capability's. It also was my attempt to make the texture from scratch.
Canderis Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) New hilt, Bloodlust
Yatsookey Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Looks awesome canderis, love how you made it look battle damaged, that'll look great in-game.
Lord of Hunger Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 By far your best hilt so far. Hell your best model period so far. Can't really think of any suggestions at the moment.
Canderis Posted August 19, 2009 Author Posted August 19, 2009 More pics of the hilt and a new robe to go with it: Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) [/img]
Trench Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 Sweet! You could lighten the hood texture a little but other than that: Two thumbs up!
Canderis Posted August 19, 2009 Author Posted August 19, 2009 The hood is from my hood mod and is not with this one. Yet. I may make a special hood for this.
Canderis Posted September 6, 2009 Author Posted September 6, 2009 UPDATE: Well to improve my modeling skillz some more I decided to model a new area again. This time using the wonders of 3ds max. I got complements from trigger-god on it, and thats pretty rare for me, so I think its good. Show spoiler (hidden content - requires Javascript to show) Again, you guys won't know whats its for, for a little while.
