IG-64 Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7711763.stm Jurassic Park is one of the greatest movies ever made. R.I.P.
Jeff Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I heard about this earlier today, sucks. I was so into Jurassic Park when I was younger, and still love the movies (and novels of course). RIP.
MrWally Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I've been a HUGE fan of Crighton's books. Jurassic Park 1 and 2, Sphere, Timeline, Congo, to name but a few.... they were all fantastic. This totally surprised me. I didn't even see it coming. He will be greatly missed.
Achilles Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 At the risk of sounding disrespectful, I stopped listening to Mr. Crichton after I learned that he was acting as an unofficial science adviser to George Bush. My condolences to his family, nonetheless.
Pho3nix Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 This was sad news for me since I've read both his Jurassic Park books. R.I.P
leXX Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 The first Crichton book I read was Congo, and loved it so much I went on to read Jurassic Park (before the film came out) and few of his others. Great author, he will be missed. R.I.P.
Kjølen Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 At the risk of sounding disrespectful, I stopped listening to Mr. Crichton after I learned that he was acting as an unofficial science adviser to George Bush. Bush needed all the advisement he could get. If we're not trying to advise him, we have no right to complain when he does something stupid. Acting as Bush's advisor = bad-choice dampening. At any rate, I've never been as huge a fan as most, but I still enjoyed his reads. RIP.

Acting as Bush's advisor = bad-choice dampening.Except Crichton 1) isn't a scientist and 2) gave bad advise [/off topic]
Kjølen Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 If Bush wants to take a fiction writer as his scientific advisor, who's to stop him? What sort of advice did he give Bush, anyway?
mimartin Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 RIP Speaking only of the books, I really enjoyed Congo, Jurassic Park and Lost World. At the risk of sounding disrespectful, I stopped listening to Mr. Crichton after I learned that he was acting as an unofficial science adviser to George Bush. Bush was trying to solve our petroleum problem by bring back the dinosaur. Crichton was Bush’s first call. After all if it is written in a book it must be true.

After all if it is written in a book it must be true. I have a hard time believing he read the book, he probably loves the movies though. To get back on topic, RIP.

The Seeker Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I've read most of his stuff even as far back as the andromeda strain and the great train robbery. I hadn't read his latest one though, but Timeline blew my mind when it came out, So passes a great author who had an amazing career. RIP M.C. At least you went out at the top of your game
milo Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Major bummer. Crichton was one of my favorite authors. He will be missed.
