GTA: Chinatown Wars

It was video-game purchase day, sort of because I was feeling bummed out about our 21 year old cat going to heaven and partly because I really wanted to get Rock Band 2 and play with the kids. Well, along with that, because I don't have enough unplayed games in my queue or stories to write for my creative writing class, I picked up GTA Chinatown for DS. So now I''m learning how to speed insanely through Liberty City while learning DS controls all at the same time. I''ve managed to run over pedestrians (their comments are hilarious), crash into cars and cops, and apparently hijack a car or two, all without managing to escape the cops to complete the second mission yet. :D It''s a riot.

That is awesome that you picked it up Jae. :D It's definitely on that I plan on getting for DS at some point. At first I wasn't sure they could really do a proper GTA game on the DS but all the reviews are indicating that they have surpassed everyone's expectations.

I know--I had to 'wink wink, nod nod' and lie about being 29 to the cashier when I was checking out.

Jae playing an immoral violant, drug dealing game ?

My world comes crashing down o_Q

Had the chance to hear if there are insane radio stations again :p

I just love the radio in all GTA games, hilarious commercials and DJ's.

It is indeed awesome that you picked this game up Jae, I'd like to get it, but I have far too many unplayed games to pick any up that I'm not really looking forward to. Although the thought of driving on sidewalks is rather tempting...

<Morphs into a towering male authority figure of the 1950s era>

Ahem! Young lady, I though you had said you were against these type of games for its senseless violence?! For its allowing you to go unchecked continuously making decisions that were not moral?! Drastic disastorus acitons bad for society?! You have got some explaining to do, missy! (pulls out a wooden switch)

I think that game is too adult for you, young lady. :carms:

QFE :D

Or driving through a bunch of areas you can't in real life. I believe akin to lawn mowing, we call it cop mowing.

Well Jae, I'm proud of you for venturing out of your cave.

See how long you can last on 6 star wanted level. Or if you can make that 'international media fame' level (major up to thy criminal status level). Probably haven't unlocked that ability yet if you're only on mission 2.

No doubt you will run across the oddity collection item (or targets like in GTA4). If you haven't already. There is usually a count of 200. After collecting/killing certain numbers you get little bonuses. All of them probably means some badass military vehicle is available to you. Stunt jumps to complete, etc.

BTW, dress up real nice, get a nice car, and drive up to the scantily clad babes during the night time. Oh and do have lots of cash and find a "quiet and out of the way" place.

I love the radio stations. If this ever comes out on PC, actually there is probably going to be a custom 'station' like in all GTA games for computer or next gen consoles. What is it? Basically you insert your own music track or even compose your own "station": announcements, DJ/MC, shows and commercials. I'd suggest for the latter you make it loop into itself with no beginning and no end so it transitions and repeats seamlessly. But that probably isn't an opiton in a DS I'm guessing.

I just hope they don't bring back the purple (ahem) "toy" that they had in San Andreas which made a cameo in GTA 4 as a background prop here and there all over once you beat the game. :naughty:

I look forward to hearing about your cyber VG crime exploits in the future. :D

I barely made it through 2 star wanted, and basically I drove all over a big park until they went away. I trashed Kenny's car, but I made it.

As far as game violence, I have no issues with adults playing this--they're old enough and mature enough to separate real violence from game violence, at least in theory. I'm not going to jack cars with a screwdriver, outrun cops driving 200 mph, deal drugs, and run people over on sidewalks to make them drop their wallets in real life. It's not something I'm going to let my kids play at all because it's a completely morally bankrupt game, fun as it is. The language, themes, and violence are too much for young eyes. After seeing several studies on what watching violence does to young kids, and seeing what happened to my then-5 year old son after watching a couple of episodes of some videos with just kid-level violence (he started hitting kids, imitating the video), it's not something I want to expose my kids to. I want them to develop appropriate moral values so that they know the difference between good and bad before they ever play mature-rated games.
