So we can't play as a mere soldier, these are special forces? I'm hoping we'll still see the Republic Soldiers from the KotOR's, perhaps with upgraded armor, but still recognizable.

I'm just not a fan of the armor of the troopers. Too much "Clone Wars" for my taste. And did I see a Dark Trooper in here?

Not bad...I suppose the balance between Force/non-Force users is going to be achieved through 'elites' like this then.

Agreed, but the soldiers in this look a lot more like the Rebels. :(

When has Star Wars ever really been original?

Everyone calls Kotor this new breath of fresh idea for Star Wars, but in 4,000 years technology doesn't improve a day. Lightsabres are lightsabres. Star Ships are Star Ships and look incredibly similar no matter where in the Star Wars timeline you are in.

Sure, the Soldier armor was a little different in Kotor. But didn't the security have the same armor as the rebels? Didn't the Jedi have the same robes?

Going to be honest here and say that if you are looking for originality... you're barking up the wrong brand and publisher.

Also, E3 news. I like.

Like I've said anywhere I can type words, the Clone Armor and complete cliche setting is almost a game breaker for me... I haven't read anything released by Bioware since the first comic, I cannot get past the Clone Armor lol :(

True, although, at least there was some difference between the canonical saga and KotOR. Sure, the soldier armor looked similar to the Rebel troopers (particularity the helmet design), but enough of the color variation masked that by some means.

What I do not like, however, is copying a design nearly verbatim, for an era set thousands of years in the past. I also think that it's much worse when you realize that BioWare is doing this in probable deliberation, to attract prequel-era fans.

Said Star Wars, not Dungeons and Dragons in space.

In about the same way that Galaxies brought in people by putting obi-wan's ghost, han, hK, darth vader, etc into the game for no readily apparent reason to attract people. Same way that WoW brought Warcraft fans in by bringing in Warcraft characters.

But yeah, I understand your anger with the armor. It is a little more obviously ripped compared to everything else in the Star Wars universe because its primarily what you're looking at.

I've opted to see it the other way around, where the Clone's armor was meant to be a salute to the republic army of old that (as we can probably guess) saves the republic from the Sith. Lets not also forget that the Clone armor was copied from Mandalorians, which had a few tell tale armors in Kotor and TSL.

Yeah, its a way to pull people unfamiliar with Kotor into the game. But the Ebon Hawk concept was a -direct- rip of the Millennium Falcon, as well as the two droids and so on. Star Wars has always recycled, so its no surprise that we'll be seeing a lot of familiar stuff.

You mean like this completely original design that wasn't copied nearly verbatim in an era set thousands of years in the past?

I mean it doesn't at all look like a star destroyer.

I like how the trooper throws the grenade in a straight line in the second video.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that the trooper is the Republic's bounty hunter in that they're the tough-as-nails, armour-clad badasses who pew pew laz0r gun it up?

I've thought that too. They are, as you say, very similar going by the description, save for the good/bad divide in one fighting for loyalty, honour, etc, etc, and the other side being honest and wanting credits!

Agree, though if they wanted to shoot for that, then they should have developed a much more primitive looking armor. The current design seems to be ripped straight from the Clone Wars, IMO.

I admit I am tired of seeing Clone Wars style material. I'm getting sick of the New Trilogy (and that's hard because I already was). On the other hand I bet there will be Sith Troopers...:D All hail the Sith! Down with the Republic and Jedi hypocrites!

Oops, do I start ranting again?

I've called the Clone Armor Rip off every name under the sun... but it's not that White armor or cliche' is such a sin, it's just it reminds me of the Clone wars as a whole... The Clone wars as a memory in ANH= Great. Clone wars depicted by Dark horse comics circa 2002-2005= awesome. The new cartoon= The Death of Star wars IMO. I'm Just sad that Star Trek (Which I hate) is getting a nice new edgy sleek prequel, and my favorite Film series has devolved from said style to a kiddy pre-school cash cow. tOR's lack of KotOResque setting and style is further evidence of this.

1) I actually have good feelings about this MMO. The new cartoon is pathetic, just like anything in the new trilogy after the Phantom Menace (which was tolerable). Yet this actually feels like something with a lot of potential. The in-universe feel is far more futuristic than anything else in Star Wars. No one is a naturally or artificially overpowered Force User. You make your own saga. I really like it.

2) Again, why does this have to be K3 or even KOTOR era? It's its own thing, and anything right after TSL would have been too...implausible.

  • 3 weeks later...

Interesting.

I think it would be a nice new starwars experience to not be weaker than Jedi.

This armour looks like it could come from the clone wars but if u are a trooper,do absolutly have to wear the armour all the time ?

No you don't. (at least I hope so)
