mimartin
The original anchorman and “the most trusted man in America” has passed away. Walter Cronkite witnessed some of the greatest triumphs and tragedies in U.S. history and brought them into American’s living rooms in a highly understandable matter. He flew in American bomber over Germany, rode in a glider with the 101st during Operation Market Garden and reported the story of Battle of the Bulge to America during World War II. The Cuban missile crisis, the Kennedy assassination, the Vietnam War, Apollo program, the Watergate scandal, and the Iran hostages were all conveyed to a majority of Americans by Cronkite. I was too young to remember or to care about much about the news while he was still an anchor for CBS evening news, but to me he was the face of the Apollo program. Rest in Peace Walter Cronkite. You leave the world today, but objective journalism left American February 14, 1980. Walter Cronkite ~ “Objective journalism and an opinion column are about as similar as the Bible and Playboy magazine.”

Darth Avlectus
RIP Walter Cronkite. We'll miss you. Rest in Peace Walter Cronkite. You leave the world today, but objective journalism left American February 14, 1980. Generally, yes. Though I'll have to dispute that point only slightly to say the late Tim Russert was one of the last remnants of it of these modern times. The uber rationalists will chide me for saying this, but, I bet he and Tim will be chatting it up in the clouds, somewhere.

Totenkopf
Well, that explains some of the comments while I was watching a piece on the Apollo program. Never actually said that he died, but the context seemed to imply it. While I'm not completely convinced that he was objective as some claim, he cast a very prominent shadow over TV journalism in America. He had a full life and his shoes may have proven too big for his sucessors.
