Laserschwert Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 Quick question about the Grim Fandango cover: Is the background with the oriental-looking windows used anywhere else? Is it maybe from a background in the game?
Laserschwert Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 Oh right, good catch. But I assume that specific angle is nowhere to be found? Or maybe in a cutscene?
TimeGentleman Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 (edited) EDIT: there are no cutscenes in that area, @Laserschwert, but there is a reverse shot from the top of the stairs. It isn't the exact angle from the box, but may be a bit more helpful: Edited January 7, 2023 by TimeGentleman 1
Laserschwert Posted January 7, 2023 Author Posted January 7, 2023 Ah okay, I guess it's easier to just repaint the windows if I want to clean up that poster. Thanks for digging those out! 2
dexgi8 Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) Hello Laserschwert, it would be great if you also make the poster for Return to Monkey Island, which was announced just a few days ago in a physical edition: https://limitedrungames.com/it/products/return-to-monkey-island-collectors-edition-pc I could complete my wall collection ❤️ Edited January 11, 2023 by dexgi8
Laserschwert Posted January 20, 2023 Author Posted January 20, 2023 James Woodcock of Pixel Refresh interviewed me about the poster project, and for the first time I'll show a more in-depth look at my restoration processes. Also, this was my first appearance on a podcast, so I stumble over the English languange a lot. Still, I hope it's enjoyable! https://www.pixelrefresh.com/game-gadget-podcast-25-restoring-retro-game-posters-with-jan-hofmeister/ 7
TimeGentleman Posted January 21, 2023 Posted January 21, 2023 (edited) Just watched it, very interesting! Thanks for sharing your processes, really cool to see! Incidentally, if you're looking for a new entry to work on, I'd love to see a high quality recreation of the landscape 2D Full Throttle cover that Peter Chan did, using the various available sources: Edited January 21, 2023 by TimeGentleman 1
ThunderPeel2001 Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 Interesting... three different versions of the same artwork.
Nfsfan83 Posted March 1, 2023 Posted March 1, 2023 (edited) I must ask I try make own Sam Max box replica... and want use Road atlas artwork (Artwork taken from H.M. Gousha Road Atlas 1993) But I see one thing I want make this version of box: So on top of box next to CHICAGO you see Rockford with 88 road... on Road atlas artwork (Artwork taken from H.M. Gousha Road Atlas 1993) it is 90 and 94 so 88 is missing... other Road Atlas??? for my own project I found this: http://www.vidiani.com/maps/maps_of_north_america/maps_of_usa/in_high_resolution_highways_map_of_the_USA.jpg and it is 88 Edited March 1, 2023 by Nfsfan83
Laserschwert Posted March 2, 2023 Author Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) Yeah, we haven't found the exact edition of the atlas that has the 88 in it. Sure, the atlas you found has the 88, but it's a completely different design. Edited March 2, 2023 by Laserschwert 1
Jonny0r Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 Just got by mistake to your work, you are really the amazingst graphic designer i ever saw.. @Laserschwert Thank you very much for sharing all this awesome pictures of games we love.. Saw on the earlier pages that you even recreated the Marble from the Lucasarts Boxes which looks Amazing.. Did you ever tried it for the Secret of Monkey Island? I have the feeling it looks different on every box
Lagomorph01 Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Oohhh! Looking great, Jan! Now there's a book I'd buy! Where can I get my (signed) copy?
Laserschwert Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) Would love to see this as a real art book, with interviews and stuff (via a Kickstarter, maybe?). Basically what Rogue Leaders did, but focusing on the box art. Also, if anybody, it should be the original artists to sign this. Edited March 21, 2023 by Laserschwert 1
TimeGentleman Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) Have you mentioned this before? What's the context, is it just a one-off you made for yourself? (Looks great, whatever it is!) Edited March 21, 2023 by TimeGentleman
Laserschwert Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 (edited) Yeah, it was just a quick one-off. A German photo printing service ran a deal last week for 100-page photo books on the cheap, so I quickly cobbled some stuff together that I always wanted to have in book form. That's why it's just dumped in there, without a proper layout. I've also ordered one with all the DOTT backgrounds (from the Remaster's concept art gallery) and one with the background paintings from MI2 and my upscales of MI3, but those haven't arrived yet. Laserschwert Posted May 10, 2023 Author Posted May 10, 2023 I've finally added my new restoration of Mark Ferrari's LOOM artwork to the thread, plus the FM Towns cover artwork as a brand-new addition (both in several different versions). Does anybody here know who painted the FM Towns art? 2 1 2

Lechuck Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 This may not be the right place to ask this, but are there any high quality preservations of the art in the code wheels?

The bottom halves seem to not quite align and they are very short. I made my own code wheel from other screenshots, which I like better, but I don't own a boxed copy of Secret unfortunately.
ThunderPeel2001 Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 I think the reality is that some real life codewheels were a little squiffy

LuigiHann Posted June 9, 2023 Posted June 9, 2023 If the ones that came with the big Limited Run box are accurate, then the bottoms not quite all lining up at once seems authentic. I agree that one's got the cut a little low, though.
