DanSky
For a long time I'm trying to find the sound that inspired Michael Land composing the awesome soundtrack of Grim Fandango. These are the bands I found: "SWING KIDS" "ROYAL CROWN REVUE" Anyone knows any jazz-swing-etnic band that sounds like the GRIM soundtrack ? Remi
Actually, the music for GF was composed by Peter McConnell. As for similar music... There are a lot of different styles of music in Grim, but you'll probably find Benny Goodman's stuff to be similar to the big-band jazz in the game. (especially the casino theme)
elTee
If anyone knows 'California Dreamin'' by the Mamas and the Papas, theres an instrumental in the middle that always reminds me of Grim Fandango.
Metallus
I like the Mexican folk music in the game, too.
Swordmaster
As stated above, Peter's score to Grim Fandango includes more musical influences than probably any game score I've heard. The orchestral bits definitely honor the classic film noir scores from movies such as Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep. You might be interested in checking out film composers Max Steiner and Adolph Deutsch. The jazzy parts are influenced by legendary musicians such as Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and the likes. Peter mentioned going to some L.A. swing clubs for inspiration when composing the music, too. (There are many sub-genres in jazz so it's difficult to say exactly which type of jazz you would enjoy, but here's a useful link to Verve Music Group -- click on the JazzEd button in the navigation bar and you'll find a page that helps you find your favorite jazz styles.) The ethnic tracks include mariachi plus Peruvian and Indian elements. This is what you can find in the "world music" section of your record store and library; the albums are usually categorized by country so it shouldn't be too difficult to locate something similar. Look for older folk music rather than newer pop music, though. A bit off-topic, I found it extremely entertaining how Peter included bars from "Internationale" in the sea bee's revolution part of the game. A very cultivated detail which further strengthens the emotional impact of the scene.
Trapezoid
Grim Fandango music rocks. Does LucasArts still sell the soundtrack?

MeddlingMonk
Paul Whiteman should probably be added to the list of band leaders. And I think I remember reading an interview with McConnel where he said he also drew on music from the Thin Man movies.
elTee
How did you get your GF cd Quez, if you don't live in USA?
QueZTone
LucasTones, cause I always try really hard to get stuff from LucasArts.com if i want it lol. Well really, you see I ordered it at the online store with my cc but let it be delivered at my nephew who lives in the USA (Vermont). Then I let him send the package to my house here in The Netherlands. I've done that twice now, and it always worked. Quite expensive shipping costs though But I guess collecting Lucas stuff from out of the USA has its price. I got a package of DOTT, Indy Desktop and Beer opener keychain coming this way again My next order will be when there's some new merch on lucasarts.com. Then ill prolly order Afterlife, Classic Adventures and some merch. If I saved up enough money for it again by then
elTee
You know QueZ, you're like me. And so I'll tell you; pre-order the next LEC adventure from LucasArts.com, and when you get it it'll have some cool freebies. The EMI, for instance, came in a signed box with a Monkey Island fridge magnet. Lemme know how they send you DOTT - if its in its original box or not. I've often wondered. Yeah, my grans sister lives in New Jersey so I got the 'classic adventures' pack before she last came to visit us. I might get that beer-can-opener thingy, but I dunno - like you say, shippings expensive. I can make my own A1 sized LEC posters at college though, but obviously I can't distribute them or anything cos thier copyright. I just stick the box-art on my wall... its great. QueZTone
LucasT, if you look closely at the company store of LEC, they now also show a pic of the box or the jewel case So DOTT still comes in box.. three of the other games i know about since i ordered them recently: Come in box: Sam&Max, FoA, and The Dig (the one with the flap on front, oh yeah its so loveable!) yeah i know but pre-ordering is so expensive too lol, and i'd actually have to wait for the game to go overseas. Anyway you're right tho, I think ill pre-order the next adventure. Heck if the mystery gift of JK2 is cool ill pre-order that!
elTee
Oh how I want the flap version - was that only released in the USA? 'Cos my copy was brand new and it has no flap. So did FoA etc all come in original boxes? That would really be great, I thought they had stopped making them. Did Sam n Max have the colouring book with it? My copy didn't have that, for some reason. If you see my most recent thread, we may be able to pre-order our next game a lot sooner than we expected.
