As much as I would like to see JKII.net to have a section dedicated to the SC, I think the deathmatchers might see it as the site is taking sides and might alienate some people, I think it's only fair that JKII.net stays neutral

But I'm all for a seperate website that supports and promotes the SC - hell maybe I'll make one!!

No need to make one really. I've already got a domain registered, and I'm just waiting for ausgamers to get back to me (much like with how I asked for their jk2 server config files, but still havent gotten them, they are god damn awfully f*cking slow) about hosting it.

It's like the guy who does the hosting stuff doesnt give a rats arse about people requesting hosting.

Hey, UT is a great game, so if you want to bash something, bash Quake3 OK?

Hehe, just a matter of opinion... But do you guys really think JKII.net wouldn't want to dedicate a page to SC, when we are a little bigger??

You can see it as good advice for newbies, or a strategy... Giving the people some rulez a lot of people use isn't the same a picking a side... At least that's what I think.. Let's hope someone from JKII.net will come across this post :)

Ok first off I agree with the idea of the code. I have always played by my own honour code with many similar rules. I also like the idea of a tag to make it easier to meet up with likewise players.

Two things that need to be addressed though are:-

1) Which tag do we use or do we use both? -SC- or [JDG]

2) Which servers can we go to to see other members.

I have seen mention of two in this thread ausgamers and I can't remeber the other. We need a list of common servers that we will frequent or our own dedicated servers.

Until I see you in battle.

Slart -SC- / [JDG]

If I may, this is a rule change/enhancment:

As seen in practice, people with saber on are of two kinds:

1. In battle / Preparing for a "non-official duel"

2. Don't know how to close the saber or don't know they should be with saber off.

----SORRY FOR THE TRIPLE POST, IT DOESN'T WANNA SUBMIT OTHERWISE-----

Therefore, if someone wanna look for a duel, ask them to close the saber when they aren't really in battle or preparing for one. This is so they won't mistakely hit anyone.

An idea for creating "un-official duels", tested on my NFNW SC/JDG server:

If an "official" duel is taking place, and you still wanna duel someone, go to them and taunt them. If they decline, they should do NO with the head (left-right) and should not be asked again at that stage.

If they want to have a duel, they bow (either crouch-bow or stand-bow or taunt, anyways, something that is visible and isn't NO), the challanger bows / taunts aswell, they both open their sabers and when both are ready, they begin fighting.

This is a bit like the "official" duel since when you Challange officialy, the both players are shown taunting and then opening sabers.

This works...

Also, if you see two people preparing to duel, before sabers open, GO AWAY FROM THERE (or stand to spectate) since I've seen people get stuck in one place asking for duels when 2 are already preparing.....

Haha. This is great stuff, really.

I would agree with everything that you said as long as you include something else: promise never to kick/ban anyone who breaks your rules.

My reasoning: What you're doing here is essentially adding a role-playing element to the game. All of the "Saber Code"'ers will be the "good guys" and anyone breaking your rules (by attacking waiting players, etc.) would be the "bad guys" that the "good guys" hunt down.

Imagine the possibilities!:

There's 4 SC'ers in a 8 person server. They're duelling each other and generally making nice with one another (ew!). ArtifeX the Dastardly drops into the server and sees all the -SC- tags and thinks, "OMFG! What a bunch of do-gooders! I must bathe in their blood!"

ArtifeX proceeds to slay as many of the SC-lovers as he can before they can arm themselves and stands taunting over their slain corpses, "HAAHAAHHA!"

The SC'ers wail with lament over their evil fate and conspire amongst themselves to slay our hero ArtifeX!

"Lamer! WTF??"

"He doesn't follow the code!!"

"Mommy! He's mean!"

"Let's get him!"

They descend upon the still exuberant ArtifeX and their combined might proves too much even for the great ArtifeX the Dastardly, and he is slain!

Never fear! Noble ArtifeX summons help via the potent Force I.C.Q. power and 3 jedi most foul join ArtifeX in wreaking furious vengeance upon the SC'ers!

Now THAT would be cool!

And then Artifex will wake up and understand that he gotta go to school and not dream too much...

You don't understand that 5 vs 1 is not good for you??

People see someone trying to kill others and they immedietly react and you die... and then come again and die again and so on.

Maybe I should attach -BIO- (Bring It On!) to the end of my tag. I cannot imagine a server (besides a straight-Duel Server) where I did not expect to be attacked by multiple opponents. I'm perfectly willing to take on all comers... and no, I would not expect to win, but it would be fun...

I will not call anyone lame for any tactics they use to take me out, including vote. However, if you try to vote me off a server and fail, just accept that the majority of the server finds no fault with my actions.

Chances are that I would leave a server with a preponderence of -SC- because they would all be waiting for 1v1 combat and that's just not fun. I prefer soccer to chess. My preference is for Jedi warfare, not dueling.

I cannot wear the -SC-. I love to run around with saber off, and I don't want to waste time waiting for a duel. However, I will respect the tag, and I would love it if it ends up fostering an elite group of saber specialists. I'd love to get my ass kicked on a server by some uber-Jedi. However, I would hate for it to turn into a clique of whiners who expects everyone to follow their artificially imposed restrictions.

non-SC- != LAMER

If it was a server that says its playing by -SC-, [JDG], or whatever we end up deciding on the tag and if it says you'll be kicked if you don't play by the rules (LiCk server is a decent server that does then, whenever admins are on, though it doesnt make any specific mention to -SC- in any form), then people are obviously going to be kicked, though i'd recommend a 3 stage format of:

Warning

Emphasised Warning

Kick.

Don't ban them at all, meh.

ArtifeX - did you read my proposed set of rules, the ones that have some changes etc to Soul-Burns? http://www.ausradar.net/jd/code.htm

As I said in that document, don't expect people to play by the Code if its a public FFA server that makes no mention of the Code :)

Sounds like a great idea. To all those who claim this is role-playing..it really isn't. The basic tenet here is respecting people. No mention of DRAIN WHORING or Heal SLUTTING or any whining at all. No changing the balance of the game. It's kind of like a way to tell who among your fellow gamers feel the same way you do about this game.

And risking the inevitable flame of being called a fanboy, even the dark side Sith in the movies acted with some amount of honor. Vader and Maul never went charging right in, saber flailing. Of course they spent that time instead looking like a bad-ass igniting double sabers and such ;)

Well, when they say we are adding a Roleplay element to it... it is more or less true (not entirely though)

We might not be roleplaying a character, but we are roleplaying a set of rules/codes used by Jedi and Sith alike in the movies so we have a more Star Warish and more fun experience ;)

Dont get me wrong though, I am a roleplayer and also a -SC-/[JDG] so by no means I ment what I said in a bad way :)

On another note, I think the JDG and SC thing will confuse alot of ppl who spot us on servers, mostly because some might think its two diferent clans wich in reality, its not.

I think a decision about wich tag to use would be a good idea.

I found a player name Kal El -SC- and we both had quite a nice set of duels, it was just great :D

[JDG] Darth Sun -SC-

if its ok with you, i will add both the -SC- and [JDG] tags to my name.

so it will look like this "SPY_jmr1 -SC- [JDG]" in white.

I have tryed to play like this from day 1.

be warned that i use dark powers, but i try not to spam them(will only use drain if i need to heal, ect ect)

ok guys? lemme know if i goofed up on anything with my peposed name.

i'll agree to abide by this code, i did it before i even saw this topic......it's just the way i play.......and the way i expect others to play if they're decent people

and just one question, would you mind if i put this on my site (giving credit to you of course, and putting a link to this topic) as i'm starting a site/clan (http://wind.prohosting.com/academyg/jediacademy/index.shtml most of the links don't work yet) and it would help promote this so that more people may abide by it

I won't g oand cry if someone doesn't act conform the SC. I use -SC-, but I do that mainly to show I love saber duels!

And when I see someone else with the -SC- tag, I try to find and duel him!

I use the rulez, but they aren't sacred or something... I don't mind other people not using the SC, just my 2 cents...
