GUNNER Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 I took it last week and smoked it.. Boy am I cool.. I'll be done with the OS class in 3 weeks then I'll just have to pass that test. Then it's on to the network+ class.
K_Kinnison Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 dont you mean past your hardware test with a A+? gee, kinda hard to fail a test where you find an A+ for signing your name on it. i bet you studied real hard for the blood test to and only got a B-
Keyan Farlander Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 K_K...what are you talking about? Good job Gundog. A bright new career may be in your future
Rogue Nine Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 I'm taking mine in May. I've already got my Networking downpat, I just need to brush up on my hardware.
Nute Gunray Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 I took both the A+ hardware and A+ OS tests unofficially. It was basically to see how much we knew for a class at school. I did surprisingly well for just guessing. I seem to remember the hardware test having "SECC" for a lot of the choices for answers. I wonder why. I thought the OS one was easier than the hardware. I plan on taking them for real next year.
Rogue15 Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 i'm still reading that huge a+ book....page 700 and something.
Tierce Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 Anything over 700 pages isn't worth it, unless its more than one book in one book...ie The Lord Of Rings
GUNNER Posted April 21, 2002 Author Posted April 21, 2002 I thought the hardware was pretty easy. It's alot about IRQs ,seriel ports, parallel ports, I/O addresses. A bunch of printer stuff and networking as well. Old networking crap. token ring, seriel bus,maw and the sort. Then there is the hexidecimal and binary stuff. And proccesor crap and what POST is and what the CMOS is for and how to trouble shoot problems. I'm really liking the class.. Lots of good info. now we're going over W2K. I might get this OS for my new PC I'm building.
GUNNER Posted April 21, 2002 Author Posted April 21, 2002 Oh yeah, stuff about SCSI and USB and IDE too. Need to know what different kind of ram sticks look like as well as how to tell AGP from PCI and ISA as well as the older cards. You need to know your Mobos (ATX,baby ATX,AT, NLX, yada yada yada)and what size they are. It's really intresting.. Now the wife is going to a "Networkers" convention in Orlando. Florida in July. Guess who all is going? That's right, the whole famdamily.. We are also taking one of our baby sitters to help out. Saweet
Rogue15 Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 awwww...now u decide to come, right when we move!!!! hey, if u act fast, u can buy our $90,000 (or is it $95,000 ) home!!!
Rogue15 Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 hehe i almost understood everything u said about hardware, well, i mean learned about those things.... i think when i'm finished with the book and we move, i'll take a computer course and see what i want to do from there...
Cmdr. Cracken Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 New job, you're looking for i see. Congradulations, my friend!
GUNNER Posted April 21, 2002 Author Posted April 21, 2002 You live/lived near Orlando R15? Thanks for the offer on the house but we already have one. It would be nice to have a Summer home though... cracken, I'm not looking per say but just in case things go bad here I would like to have some PC skills. If I do find something a little more then half as good as this though I might consider quiting.
Redwing Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 YAY FOR GUNNER!! Now if I only knew what he was talking about
Zoom Rabbit Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 Well, it sure sounds important. Congrats, fellow human! I tested my own limits with myself the other day by belittling myself and wearing stupid clothes. Then finally I got mad at myself and said, 'hey, a$$hole, what do you think you're doing?' But then I realized that I was talking to myself and felt silly...on top of being belittled and dressed like an idiot. Medicine, anyone?
edlib Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 OK,.. the specs for the new system I want built are on the way. That's cool. Congrats!!! Be prepared for many questions.
GUNNER Posted April 22, 2002 Author Posted April 22, 2002 Thanks guys.. Admiral. I promise, before I turn 40 I'll be done with it. Edlib, here is my new PC. I got a Cheiftec case, just like the Alienware ones...An Asus P4S333 mobo, P4 1.6A (will OC to 2.1) 256mg of Mushkin PC2700 DDR,Leadtec GF 3 Ti200, SB audigy gamer, a Sony 52X CD. I'm going to use an extra 13.6G WD Hard drive that I never have formated yet. Might buy something bigger if I find a cheap 20-40G unit. I did some case mods as well. I put in a fanbus so I can run my fans (4 80mm and 1 120mm) at either 12V or 7V. That way when I'm not doing anything I can run my fans at half speed so they make less noise. I also cut a hole in my door so my 120mm fan blows across my AGP card then added a sweet fan grill in the shape of an atomic sign. Boy am I cool.
Admiral Odin Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 Is your comp really quite. I can't hear my new one, I love it.
Tierce Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 lucky bastards and their shiny computers....mine sounds like a damn pinto thats stuck in a snow storm, going up a hill with 2 overwieght guys squeezed in the front....in other words..its loud as hell
Zargon Posted April 22, 2002 Posted April 22, 2002 my current soon to be old one needs some new fans, they make too much noise now, my new one that I want will be a Athlon 1600+ with the EPOX - 8HKA+ RAID............GF Ti 500 128MB 256 MB Ram...... ps. THis one will be powering my 21 inch SOny Trin
GUNNER Posted April 23, 2002 Author Posted April 23, 2002 Zarg, with all the crap I have bought these past few wdeeks it will be hard to get the wife to beleive we need a new 21 incher. I bet that baby's great huh?
Nute Gunray Posted April 23, 2002 Posted April 23, 2002 We're looking at a P4 2.4 (the newer core that actually works) with some monstrously obscene heatsink so that I can OC it up to 3 gig like i've heard you can do and a gig of DDR RAM
