Metallus
So, based on that bootleg trailer from Multiplayer.it, we've been able to spot a lot of things about the style of the upcoming sequel. What are your opinions about how well the makers of FT2 are doing with the graphics style? I think that they did a very good job with the atmosphere. They absolutely NAILED the backgrounds and sky perfectly. The characters are also impressive. Actually, I didn't see anything that I didn't like in the trailer. What are your thoughts? Ben Whatsisname
I did see one thing I didn't like. If that is indeed the Kickstand that they are in (Judging from the surroundings, it isn't), it looks as if Quohog was fired and replaced by someone without an "easy-grab" handle. I agree that they caught the looks dead-on, but I just gotta wonder - a lot of shots of the other Polecats - could we possibly come full-circle and go back to multiple-character adventures hopefully? Give myself over... To her sweet curvy polys... Engage my dark fantasies... Not allowed by ESRB... * Audience is shocked as Metallus rips off his Guybrush pirate outfit to reveal Elaine's blouse and long skirt... --- Just kidding... Jake
That's the only thing that bugged me about the FTII trailer. That is ... EMI. Full Throttle characters arent supposed to have big bulging shiny true blue eyes like that. It looks just like Guybrush in the opening cutscene to EMI. Scummbuddy
good song ben. guybrush has been known for wearing dresses in the past. i think the game is shaping up to what i expected and it'll be a definite buy. simon said that they couldnt do all the action in the first game as they wanted to and they were going to do it in this game. Ben Whatsisname
For one thing, the lucasarts titles are all cartoon/caracature-like. Always have been, probably always will be. If you want more realistic-looking games, I'll give you my copy of Myst. The only real way to make them more realistic would be to make basicly a "choose your own adventure"-type movie (for those of you too young to remember the choose-your-own-adventure books, just imagine the same way "Dragon's Lair" was programmed) where they compile a bunch of "what if they choose *this* option" video clips of live actors and string them together with code for a "game". There is another reason, in my opinion, that it looks like it does. I am 30 years old, a die-hard computer geek, and well known console-hater (although I may buy a console strictly for ft2) and would advise any friends of mine who love consoles to stop reading here, lest I hurt your feelings. For everyone with the courage to read on... I recently saw a tv commercial which validates my disliking of consoles. (which is a rant for another day, but I need an example...) A kid of <insert cheezy nickname for today's generation here> is daydreaming about buying an x-box and not paying attention while skateboarding. As a result, he winds up riding his skateboard "prison-style". Full Throttle II is slated for both pc and console release, so they had to gear the graphics toward consumers with the attention span of gnats, as well as computer users. Most console kids don't care about gameplay or realism, as long as it looks pretty and keeps them focused away from the skateboard up their asses for just a few moments more. Back in the old days (yes, showing my age again) skateboard games had realism - if you're on the half-pipe and fell, your little butt had to skate back and forth several times in order to regain speed and momentum. I was at a friend's house watching an x-box junkie play Tony Hawk and felt myself grow dumber as he wiped out halfway up the ramp, got back un his board, and was instantly propelled the rest of the way up the ramp as if pulling the board outta his backside had given him a boost. No - FT's graphics are like that because that's the look that works the best with Ritalin. Let's just hope the actual gameplay and puzzles don't go the same way. Remi
Yeah, from what I can judge by only seeing the trailer, it all looks at least similar to FT1. FT1 was released seven years ago too, so it's only natural for the style to change slightly. Of course, for all I know, the rest of the game can look completely different, with bright blue backgrounds and curly clouds. Guess we just have to wait and see. MeddlingMonk
I like the new banner at The Kickstand, with the concept art Ben, the FT1 Ben, and the FT2 Ben. You could say that the FT2 Ben is less cartoony (his head isn't as trapezoidal). Not that it matters. I'm just having fun with the complainers. Personally, I expect the new game to try to keep close to the original...but it's going to be different. The technology is different, and it'll be a different game. And I think that's what all the complaining is about (and what it'll be about when the game is released): just the shock of something unfamiliar. manny_c444
Ben Whatshisname, your points are invalid and ludicrous, not to mention way off topic...Tony Hawk, why the devil did you start ranting about Skate boarding physics when this thread is based on visual style? And console games are rapidly becoming more realistic looking . full Throttle would most likely find a bigger audience with grittier, more realistic graphics. And where does this ridalin outburst come from. Graphically this game could look much better, and even this ridalin generation you speak of, would appreciate more realistic graphics. Wow. FT2 has barely been announced, probably has at least about 1.5 years left of development, no actual in-game footage has been released, and yet you know it could look much better! I wish I was that insightful!

Where exactly did I lose you? When you look for reality in games, you look at the total package and yes, the skateboard physics example *IS* included in the "visual" aspect. I was pointing out that realism (in general) in console games has gone to the crapper. They can make games with digitized pics of the actors and that's great, but combine it with a visual image that doesn't follow real-world physics and it turns back into a cartoon. That's why the example was there. Most console gamers don't care about realism, which was my point in the first place. I'll leave this one short for ya. therealmatt
Ben's point about the ritalin generation WAS valid and not particularly ludicrous, had you been paying attention you would've noticed the transition. Being a member of what you referred to as the "Ritalin generation" I can honestly say that just because a game looks pretty doesn't make it a good game. If a game looked good but consisted of running through mile after mile of the same eye candy filled cave it would still suck.

I think that people who say "its cartoony and the first one was also cartoony therefore they are the same" are even funnier. Have they ever watched two cartoons, or played two different games? Two cartoons to compare, for instance The Maxx and Sam & Max. Or Dexter's labratory and Aeon Flux... or Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle 1, or CMI and Full Throttle 1. Just because one looks animated and another looks animated means in no way that they are the same. FT1 was dark, moody, had shading much like a comic book (a serious one). The new FT looks like Fox Kids version of "dark and moody." This doesn't mean the game will suck or anything. I like most of what's been shown in FTII. I just don't think a game like that needs to have the exact same big goofy eyes that EMI's characters had. I think everyone can agree that (with the exception of the 3 times we see Ben run), FT1 can hardly be described as "goofy."

JBRAA
Legacy of LEC into FT2. From: http://www.lucasarts.com/press/releases/59.html "The free wheeling action-adventure will offer a humorous original story, furious bare knuckle fighting, and the thrill of high speed biking." "Ben so perfectly symbolizes our legacy and yet has just the right mix of attitude and edge to appeal to a new generation of game players." From: http://www.lucasarts.com/20th/ "Throughout our company's history, from our humble beginnings in the "Computer Division" of Lucasfilm, we have continually focused on using emerging technology to pioneer a new form of interactive entertainment. Consistent with Lucasfilm's movie heritage, our goal has been to develop games that combine vital film elements - compelling storytelling, engaging characters and vivid settings - with strong gameplay, the element which distinguishes games from more traditional, linear mediums." Legacy of The Gone Jackals. "December '61. my Dad's wages light. Still on that salary we, all four, could sleep tight. Right now if you drank from that very same well, you'd need a run of luck to score a bed in a trick hotel. Is this the legacy of too much for too few that I see? The kind of legacy that's tossin' some good men to their knees. The "Great Society's" maligned concrete cage sits dead and vacant now - at least it kept out rain. With all those corners cut the cracks grow wide and near. I heard some cash was saved but where it's gone ain't clear.. Who goes down next I don't know. I don't know nothin' anymore. Tomorrow's legacy that's layin' in state awaits reprieve. I always thought that when a man goes down you do your best to pick him up. But how can the milk of kindness trickle down when it's syphoned off and cheats the cup?" In LEC I trust.
therealmatt
Damnit JBRAA, that was the biggest waste of space I've ever seen. If quoting a song by the Gone Jackals symbolizes your trust in LEC ... you're one wacky swede. *burp*
