SamNMax Posted September 10, 2002 Posted September 10, 2002 Why is everybody so sick of 3D? I understand that 2D games have a better feel, but like it or not, the future is now.
elTee Posted September 10, 2002 Posted September 10, 2002 Hmm. I'm kinda on your side with this one. I think that Grim Fandango is the best game ever made, very closely followed by Monkey Island 2 and Little Big Adventure 2. As you know, Grim Fandango was in 3d. I mean, I liked EMI (as a game! not as a sequel. What a difference there is) and I would rather play games in 3d than have them stop making adventure games altogether. I love the genre, not the GUI. Read this lucasarticle I wrote about this subject. You may find it interesting. I dunno.
Remi Posted September 10, 2002 Posted September 10, 2002 I don't mind 3d. I do mind that long sig though.
Benny Posted September 10, 2002 Posted September 10, 2002 Yeah I adore Grim Fandango too and if it wasnt for that I would probably be a total anti-3d crusader. For the most part I dislike 3d because it can often look quite bad and make for a clunky interface. Of course this isnt always the case (as Grim proves) and I think that new technologies - such as cel shading could make all the difference.
ptdc Posted September 10, 2002 Posted September 10, 2002 I'd like a 3D adventure with a 2d like interface. Keyboard control doesn't feel right for adventures. On the bright side as computer graphics get better and better the atmosphere achieved in 3d adventures will hopefully approach and exceed that achieved in traditional 2d adventures.
Hellbeard Posted September 10, 2002 Posted September 10, 2002 Before we know it, we'll have virtual reality adventure games! But really, I don't really mind 3D that much, Yeah it's not as good as 2D but we have really got to stop looking in the past and start looking towards the future!
GendoTheGreat Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 VR is really the only place left to go.
ptdc Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 What about computers that plug straight into your brain?
Riffage Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 i remember that film, except it was into peoples spines
guybrush guy Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 i once saw a movie where they pluged it into to there eyeball and they died sonn after DUN DUNNN DUNNNNNNN
Scummbuddy Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 Originally posted by Riffage i remember that film, except it was into peoples spines That movie was stupid. On the box they said it was better than the Matrix
SamNMax Posted September 11, 2002 Author Posted September 11, 2002 Originally posted by RemiO I don't mind 3d. I do mind that long sig though. Well here you go. I changed back into my old sig.
scabb Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 Anyway, back on topic. Personally, I believe 3D is the new 2D.
itsgood2slide Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 Anyway, back off topic. Have you seen the film Strange Days? I so wish that was real.. ooh the possibilities
Riffage Posted September 11, 2002 Posted September 11, 2002 Originally posted by Scummbuddy That movie was stupid. On the box they said it was better than the Matrix how does that work, its older than the matrix
elTee Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 A VR adventure game would be great! But if they really did do true VR games, where you have a mask and like some kind of play arena, then I have to say something like GTA3 would tickle my fancy just that bit more.
Mr. Teliot Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 Ar you guys talking about Existenz? that movie is totally cool. I wish I had a gun made out of weird fish. Uhm... Has anyone except me noticed how much the matrix has started sucking? I liked it the first couple of times I saw it but when I watched now the other day I realized that everything except the action is crap. Worst of all is the dialogue. EET EEZ SHEET! I guess I was stunned by the cool visuals when it was new.
Scummbuddy Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 Riffage I rented the movie Existenz or whatever either when the matrix was in theaters or after. It had some critic that said it was better than the matrix. I don't know where you live and how the distributing of the movies went but here in the US thats how it went down.
scabb Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 I was never really overly impressed by the Matrix. It's one of those movies that geek types love to hype up, because chimps can't understand it. I'd rather watch Home Alone, it's much classier. Funnier too.
elTee Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 Any John Hughes movie will make me laugh. They're all basically the same, but they kill me. The Matrix was slow and boring.
Riffage Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 what about the new matrix film, what do you think thats going to be like? same as before?
Wossname Posted September 12, 2002 Posted September 12, 2002 I still enjoy the Matrix every time I see it. I love the gradual transformation of Keanu from regular guy to godlike superhero. It's both a physical transformation, and a character transformation. It's one of the best character arcs I've seen in an action movie. Existenz was okay, but I found the end annoying, when all it was was plot twist after plot twist after plot twist, seemingly just to run out the clock.
elTee Posted September 13, 2002 Posted September 13, 2002 A VR RPG would also kick ass, you are correct.
