ok ive been meaning to post this for awhile

the three main species in LOTR are men, dwarves, and elves. they all have their own strengths and weaknesses and i think that it is cool how tolkien made them so different and so simmilar at the same time

dwarves: dwarves are the strongest of the three and so they are able to weald gigantic wepons with great ease. the dwarves are the best at melee combat and could could rip a man or elf (who are equal in strength) in two. the main thing dwarves lack are speed and eyesite they would not be able to match a man or elf in archery.

elves: elves are the fastest of the three and have the best eyesite. this can makes them the best for archery and wealding small blades. the elves are very formadable when it comes to long range combat but even with their keen eyesite and speed they would not be able to last long agenct a dwarf or a man (of equal strength) in melee combat.

men: men are a weak combanation of elves and dwarves. they are very skilled at close combat and long range combat. if they tryed to only use one wepon they would not be able to use it as good as the other two but even though i think that this combination makes them more strong than eather race

give my your opinion

OMG someone tossed a dwarf:eek: :p my fave part in TTT is at the battle of helms deep when aomear is attack by two orcs and gimli comes out of nowhere and cuts off both orc heads at once, then he goes up to legolas and say "i have two so far" :D

Actually:

Orcs were elves long ago and there is even a "half breed" of creatures known as dark elves who worship a spider like creature. Some of this is D+D but they got a LOT of ideas from LotR.

Dwarves have excellent vision and they are the stoutest of them all. They have a never say die type attitude. They prefer hand to hand and seem like a Kilingon race to me. Downside to Dwarves is that they care more about mines and metal then the partakings of the world. HECK! Since there are so few women who even choose mates some work so hard on their mines they never even get a woman.

Men are more than that. They have different "breeds" out there. Some do specialize in certain weapons. The Men of Rohan specialized in spears to go along with their infamous mounts. Men are the norm of all.

Elves are by far the most advanced culture. They are magically adept, carry great prowess in all weapons (you are right when you say they are natural bowmen because of their eyesight), and can live for eternity. There is no real downside to being an elf except probably having long golden (most of the time) hair. Not for me. I am not a Fabio hater but definetly not a lover.

Hobbits are by far the most fun and the most boring. They live long lives and concentrate on having fun. Most hobbits do not even leave a 10 mile radius of their homes in their entire lifetime.

The dwarves have sharp eyes and are good archers, Tolkien wrote that. Guess most of them just didn't like bows ( PS: The dwarves in "The Hobbit" had bows and arrows and even used them).

Anyway

Dwarfes are defidently the most tough warriors, they can even resist dragon fire (to some degree).

However, I think also Men are very strong, because they are skilled with many weapons and they ride horses in combat, as you know if you have read TTT, a group of 120 riders of Rohan can defeat a group of about 250-300 uruk-hai and only lose 15 riders.
