Star Wars TV show on the way?

According to a report on Star Wars fan site TheForce.net Lucasfilm are attempting to bring The Clone Wars to the small screen. Apparently the filmmakers produced a pilot episode for a possible TV show about the intergalactic war featured in the most recent movie, and presented it to The Cartoon Network in the USA. No word yet on the TV station‘s response nor what format the pilot episode took, but with The Cartoon Network involved its safe to assume we‘re talking animation, and with George Lucas & his crew involved it seems highly likely the show was a CGI creation.

A lot of that seems like you're making your own speculations... here's the story as it appears on TheForce.net :

Lucasfilm, the company behind ''Star Wars,'' is in discussions with the Cartoon Network about joining forces for an undisclosed project, a spokesperson for the cable channel tells EW.com. Internet reports have suggested that the project in question is a ''Star Wars'' cartoon series, possibly titled ''The Clone Wars,'' but Laurie Goldberg, a Cartoon Network senior vice president for publicity, declined to offer details on the negotiations.

''Cartoon Network is constantly seeking partnership opportunities with great creative companies,'' Goldberg said. ''So naturally Lucasfilm would be high on that list. But to speculate now on a series launch or the nature of our discussions would be very premature.''

So draw your own conclusions. I hope they don't do it... TV shows lead to more TV shows, and pretty soon Star Wars is as silly as Stark Trek.

I have a very bad feeling about this... :(

I remember that droids cartoon from yonks ago...with C3PO and R2-D2...and I remember changing channels...

I seriously don't think Star Wars translates well to a 2D cartoon format...and there would even be issues with 3D CGI.

If they are going to make a Star Wars series, they should...

1. Make it live-action with CGI'd spaceships, etc. Like Farscape (R.I.P.) and Babylon 5 (R.I.P.) but with more comprehensible plots.

2. Make it time limited. Focus on quality, and run it for maybe a couple of years...and then cease. Otherwise, as stated above, they'll completely run out of plot ideas, and it will become really corny.

3. Use people who can act.

Personally, I think a better format for a translation of Star Wars to TV would be a short series of 2-hour episodes...sort of like Band Of Brothers. That way, you get about 10-12 hours of quality TV with decent effects...rather than a weekly effort where the script-writers are straining for inspiration. Do that for 2 or 3 seasons, and you have something of epic scale across about 30 hours, which hopefully won't be too repetitive.

I mean, let's be honest...if there was a Clone Wars series...and there was a battle every week...it would become monotonous. It's better when the focus is on character development, and you get something unexpected with each episode.

Obviously...the problem would be realising the special FX. We've now been totally spoiled by what we've seen in the films, and you'd expect something approaching the same quality on your TV screen. That takes a lot of time to realise.

Yeah...but most of the alien races in Star Trek these days are just people with plastic foreheads and nose-jobs. There are regrettably few total aliens these days. There were probably more alien concepts in the original series. At least in Star Wars...many of the races bear no resemblance to humans. I've always preferred the Star Wars races to those portrayed in Trek anyway...

...and therein lies part of the problem - because many of the aliens are now totally CGI created...which increases budgets.
