What will Happen?

I am asking your opinion here.

What will happen if a lightsaber existed in the real world an someone found out how to make one. What would the government do? What will people think? What will Star Wars fans think? Wil this weapon be secretly used for the army? Or will it instanly be outlawed and the building plans be thrown away?

What do you think will happen?

I will post later on my opinion.

It would be kept a secret from the public while the government in secret arm their troops with them :dev7:. Then some hostile country will put in spys/spies (spell?) to find out how to build them.... then it will be a great war with lightsabers. And maybe some nuclear weapons for backup. Sounds reasonbile to me.

I would of course steal the plans on how to making one :p

I would build one. I wouln't care it they were outlawed. I would still have one and if anybody tried anything then I would kick some ass. The government would probally use them as a tool more than a weapon though. There are really no lasers to deflect and I don't think that the Force would come with that Lightsaber. Wouldn't be that handy in combat but would be good for engineers.

Terrorist with lightsabers? Can you imagine what would happen?

Nothing. We'd have snipers a mile away picking them off with ease. They'd get owned.

It's just like a big powerful glow in the dark knife. It's only really deadly to anyone but yourself if you have jedi reflexes and perception.

Wasn't there some secret group spending million researching it though?

The same thing would happen that happened with nuclear weapons. Originally it was only one country that had them, then another, then another, and another... What originally started out as one country's great weapon, their ace in the hole against everyone else, eventually spread to everyone else. Now, they can't go back. I'm sure the U.S. and Russia would love to get rid of all their Nukes, but they can't, because they need to keep some because everyone else has them now, to destroy them would mean falling behind.

The same thing would happen with this. If they were used as mining tools, then someone would steal them and use them for malicious purposes. Anything that can be used to harm and destroy, will be, that's unfortunately the way we are. Eventually almost everyone in the U.S.(then other places) would have a Lightsabre, it'll be like owning a gun. And not everyone will have it just for "protection" either.

There are just some things we shouldn't tamper with, yet we always do. As BCanr2d2 said, we can't uninvent things AFTER we realize how dangerous they are. I believe R. Buckminster Fuller said it best with "Humanity is acquiring all the right technology, for all the wrong reasons. "

If you think of it, a lightsaber is a very powerful laser and lasers are being replaced with projectile weapons, it is used on an plane to intercept missles in flight and destroy them.

We have the power that is needed and the technology that is needed to make this weapon. But one problem, if we do make one with a big bulky machine, the laser (lightsaber) will go on forever.

What I think is that it will be outlawed, or this weapon will threaten world peace and create WWIII!

It'd be used as a last resort/suicide weapon in the army - when the poor soldier has nothing left he flicks on his saber and go "ballistic" on the enemy troops - with 80% of the users ending up cutting off their own limbs before reaching the enemy.

That weapon is insanely dangerous to the wielder, it's totally different than a sword, because even the slightest touch renders you a casualty.

It could be used in efficient mining, if it was mounted on machines, though.

Well it would defect bullets and the like but noone could do that without getting super lucky. Only a Jedi can really use one. But if you got good enough with enough training on the low power setting you would own at non gun combat. I would still have one. Id take out the power charger thing and carry it around as a costume piece. Id only use it if I was in real danger. But Id train every day to not hit myself.

i think it would be useless since regular people are not fit to use it.

so what if you got a light saber, you still not fast enough to dodge a bullet.

so its nonsense to make it because we don't have the power that the jedis possessed.

as far as the star wars fans they will find a way to steal it from the gov't. take it home and probably keep messing around with till' they accidently chop their heads off.
