Like...let's say other wished to click that button on your post to say they like what you contributed (ie not spam) then you get points.

I think this is an excellent idea.

I like the rating system better than the simple "post, and make people reply to your inane topics"-idea.

I'd only rate a person if he/she actually took the time to post a thoughtful reply which (hopefully) included more than 3 lines of text.

I can see the problem with 2 users constantly rating each other to get points, but maybe that problem could be solved if there was a time limit on rating the same person. 24 hours, for example. That way, they'd have to get other people to rate them too, unless they didn't want their progress to be painfully slow.

Another idea would be to include a log of sorts, so each user could see who voted for them (mods could access this log as well), and when.

Let me see if I can answer a few of the issues people have with our little holiday "beta run" of this VBForums Hack.

1st off: The prizes are the generic ones that come with the hack... and one of the very reasons for this test run is to get reader's input on what exactly we should allow for prizes... so those are going to most definitely change as we test it out.

2nd .. If you win a "sticky" option... you can only do one sticky per x days ... it's very limited in how many times you can change that.

Moderator for a day is going to change.. I just don't like that period.

In the end, this beta run it meant to get everyone's feedback in how we can and should use this option .. IF and I stress if we want to use it.

Adding a credit option to spice things up really shouldn't be a major deal if you make sure people lose points for abusing it and if you come up with the right prizes.

Course, if everyone doesn't like the idea, then we flip a few switches and it's gone... so it's not a big deal one way or the other.

Enjoy.

It can work, and it can definately be fun, if people realize its current shortcomings, and work to correct them.

I like the way you have to pay credits to change your username - I can imagine this would take some work off the moderators.

I think the rating system should be implemented into the credit system, so that people could boost others for quality as well, instead of quantity. But make a time limit on it, or else it's not going to work.

Game threads will give an unfair advantage to those that created them in the first place, as they'll get hundreds of points on a daily basis, without doing anything.

Currently, I can't access the profile at all, making me unable to edit my location, biography etc. An idea would be to make changing your location cost you 50$, so people learn to think before changing it. Not that I care, but it seems you guys don't want us to edit anything in our profile without paying first, so I guess this is what you had in mind all along.

Awww c'mon man! There was a rating system on an old forum I once visited, and it was great fun, despite it being abused slightly...

And I'd love to buy a glowing username! :p

I say we work together on making this work, instead of backing off at the first sign of possible abuse.

ehh, i dont know, things started to settle down the way they were, and now new reasons for havoc and mayhem.....just not worth the "bonuses" in my opinion...i was on a forum that had a similar bright idea like this, they had to terminate the thing after a month to get rid of it since no-one was able to stand the place anymore...just burn the idea...the glowing thing and the italic can always be implemeted in the way that it's accessible to everyone, however we don't know if the head admin here will let that happen if these plans fail...although this idea, since it's coming from the top, i find hard that it will die...anyway, we'll see...
