Very true... it would be best to keep this issue under raps as in dont ever speek of anything on this topic and no one will be offended. as far as i am concerned we are all on an equal level (me being the lowest) so there is no point to discuse are differences in those issues...blah, blah blah....i wander if any one can make any sence out of that. well....good luck trying to figure out what i said:D

Redwing
Why was the sexuality thread closed? Because someone said that the issue should be kept under wraps? I'm a little confused, here. I don't remember things like the gender thread, etc. being closed... So I take it we can't discuss 'that', because some people might be offended? I mean, I know I created it with the intention to step on a few people's toes, but I didn't think it was that bad ^^;; Will this apply to threads on what race you are, what gender you are, what's your favorite color too? (Personally I hate those blue lovers...just kidding ) I'll shut up now I guess, while I'm still unbanned. ^^;; (And by the way, GUNNER, if you read this, go back and look at the poll results. You were wrong, at least a little bit.)

R15 said a few things that inflamed matters, but explained it to some extent later... It was quite a good thread, I thought Will this apply to threads on what race you are, what gender you are, what's your favorite color too?I certainly hope not... I'd be surprised and disappointed if it did, being as the sexuality thread wasn't really getting out of hand, IMHO. (And by the way, GUNNER, if you read this, go back and look at the poll results. GUNNER
I have been here long enough to know when something will soon escalate and turn into a flame war. You need to remember that not everyone here can keep calm without having to through insults around and start poking fun at people because for the most part they don't understand so they feel the need to "talk down" to others. People like to push their luck in threads like that and if by closing it it keeps some one here then so be it. I too was on the verge of throwing down one some peeps but that would of been wrong too huh? I'm sorry but some things are better off not being discused here. Maybe R9 will open it for you if he wants to.
SuicidalXWing
I did my best to stay outta it, but I hope my comment didn't promote the closing, I was trying to avoid a full blown war. Then again, by closing it, the war was stopped, but even so.
GUNNER
I did it on my own accord. If your really want to know take it to another board that I don't go to and maybe they will let you post it there.

You need to remember that not everyone here can keep calm without having to through insults around and start poking fun at people because for the most part they don't understand so they feel the need to "talk down" to others. Understood, and agreed, but I feel strongly that the thread wasn't going in that sort of direction - there were one or two relatively small things, but it was, for the most part, more than civilised. People like to push their luck in threads like that and if by closing it it keeps some one here then so be it.I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think that the thread had got to (or was even near) such a point that warranted closing for those reasons, and this is coming from a non-straight perspective. I too was on the verge of throwing down one some peeps but that would of been wrong too huh? Yes, and you didn't do it, which is what matters. I'm sure several other people felt similarly, but also didn't do or say things that might have upset people one way or the other - it's still not reason to close a thread and terminate discussion of the topic, IMHO I'm sorry but some things are better off not being discused here.Hmm... Perhaps you're right... If the thread were more debate-like in design, it would be well-suited in the Senate Chambers, but this one was more of an Aresen-specific thing, so it just wouldn't 'fit' in the Senate. Maybe R9 will open it for you if he wants to.Just to be clear, would you object to that? If you would, then I can't see anyone reopening it... Redwing
Well, you go to the Swamp, Gunner, ne? You've seen their Senate forum? That's full of the kinda things that apparently shouldn't be allowed because people decide to be hateful/insensitive/plain stupid about touchy subjects. I just thought Aresen could handle that, if only a tiny bit. I respectfully don't agree with you...but if Niner concurs by keeping it closed then I won't complain about it anymore ^_~

The Master
GUNNER was probably doing what he thought best for you people in preventing a blood bath. I too have seen how you all can get once a controversial topic comes up and one person doesn't agree on something that another person thinks is right. The topic is closed and just forget about it. Just write happy stuff and you'll all be in the clear. ... ... What have I been doing that last few days? I've been posting like a MOD or an ADMIN. Oh well, what I say is what I think right. edlib
Religion, politics, sexuality... All topics to avoid in a public forum... unless you are sure those around you are emotionally mature enough to be able to express thier own opinions and to listen to and tolerate the opinons of others without becoming upset or attempting to get those who have a different viewpoint to see it "The Right Way" (I.E.: MY WAY!) It's a very rare occurance that this is at all possible.
Rogue15
damn, well since i can't say something in that other thread, might as well drag the discussion here... My parents don't have a problem w/me having a girlfriend, it's all me wondering what their reaction would be like...i mean, they wouldn't freak out or anything, they'd just act a little surprised. i know they're not against it, since i'm 19. I'm not just going to go say to my parents at the dinner table 'i got a crush on this girl at work, what should i do' Also, homeschooling has to do alot w/my paranoia, etc. and me being w/o a social life for 5-6 years, the highschool years, aka the most important part of a persons social life i guess. oh well...not like i can sue them or anything, i was the one who asked to be homeschooled, cause i hated being at school for 8 hours a day and then coming home with homework, i think it was worth it, but just barely. Rogue Nine
I felt Red's thread was a very good one, and certainly a much-needed break from the insanity of RSN. Some insensitive and offensive comments were made, but I suspect that's to be expected in such a thread. That does not mean, however, they will be tolerated. In all honesty, I like the thread. I don't know whether or not I'll reopen the thing. Give me some time.
Rogue Nine
I've just reopened this thread after talking it over with GUNNER. He closed it because it was veering in a wrong direction and needed to be kept in check. Some off-color comments were made, and it just went downhill from there. I don't want that happening, I happen to think that this is a great thread. I don't want it marred by comments made before. No more offensive comments. This thread is prime for such, but we're all mature people here, regardless of age. Everyone agreed to respect everyone else when you registered. That includes keeping your posts polite and without childish comments such as "gay people are stupid/weird/fags" or things of that such nature. Should you disagree with their lifestyle or anything about them, you absolutely have the right to say so. I will defend your right to do that. But you do NOT have the right to insult people and call them names and make specious generalizations about them because of their sexual orientation. Capice? Now, carry on. I'll be hoping you will read this here with openess in your mind, rather than with the dumb "I'm a mod I can do what I want" attitude because if you do we might actually learn something O.o Last time I heard, freedom of speech was worth much more than your opinion as someone with moderating powers. Or any of you who are trying to make everything peace/nice around here under any circumstance. The problem most of you with thread locking capabilities have is that you sometimes aren't able to distinctify the things that are offensive and need to be moderated with the debate issues at hand that are expected and need not be moderated, but moreover argued amongst members (of course everything has a limit, but this thread never even reached its). I'm not here to tell you what to do and how to do it (ok maybe I am up to a point, however only for this specific issue) but being that your registration date, GUNNER, was in 1999, and I heard you are a father, I'd at least expect you to "comprende" whatever I'm saying, and try leave your rule-opinons at the door or at least be on the same level that I am. I'll agree with you that if it's insulting it needs to be thrown out, that's a moderators job to do, however if someone's distinct opinion is how they described it, and it is on topic (and if it's offensive, then god damn man, the thread's name IS "time to step on everyone's toes" you have to be kidding me if you didn't expect half posts here to be like R15's were) then even if it's offensive, it goes. However it leaves a lot of room to counter-argue and this is where moderating attention should be shown. For example, if the replies were "You biggot dumb ****" then that would be the thing that needs moderation. Freedom of speech and freedom of opinion are something that you CANNOT moderate based on your opinon under certain rules (again, only in some cases, like for example this one, for the others, you were put in that position to execute it), and this is exactly what you were doing in this case. You would be able to moderate it if it was in direct opposition and was going against the forum rules (where it a lot of times does), however the thread was designed EXACTLY to go AROUND the specific kinds of rules when it was made. I hope you "comprende" what I'm talking about here. No disrespect meant to any of you trigger happy folks, I'm sure you know what you're doing most of the time, you just need to think about stuff on a little bit deeper levels to get my point on this one. I'll happy if you try to argue this one with the opposite side though
Ikhnaton
blackdove, you can make the free speech argument all you want, but this board does have rules against posting inflammatory and otherwise offensive comments. if you yell fire in a crowded theater, your free speech arguments won't help you in court. I actually agreed with GUNNER's closing of the topic. I have been around almost as long as he has and i have seen how topics like this can easily get out of hand. It has nothing to do with forcing our opinions over anyone else, or trying to flex our topic-closing powers, but everything to do with keeping the peace. I've been on many boards and still am. This board doesn't quite have the same cohesiveness of other boards i have been to. Our common factor is star wars and/or games. That's just barely enough to have a friendship. While everyone is free to have their own opinion, and the expression of such is welcome (within the set boundaries of said expression), in such a heterogenous group like this where people differ so much, topics like this, politics and religion and easily get out of hand. many of you are still young, not quite adults, and don't quite yet know how to engage in a debate while remaining respectful of others. Trust me, in my 3+ years of experience on this board, i know how these topics usually pan out.
