C'jais
http://www.msnbc.com/news/908232.asp?0cv=CB20 Makes you wonder what you'd do in a similar situation... Still... I mean, a friggin' pocket knife? That guy's got cojones.
Thrackan Solo
Oh yeah when I was hiking once I cut off both arms and legs with my teeth, then crawled 200 miles in the frost and snow to safety. --- No I heard that an man I cant believe that you know he was up there for like 5 days? •-BLaCKouT-•
Jeez, that man's gonna need serious counselling. Still, it's a conversation piece at parties I suppose. Not sure if I could've done it. B.
Darklighter
I would never have been able to do that. It takes some serious willpower to do something like that. A pocket knife though?! *shudders*
Lost Welshman
Depends guys, He was probably too cold to feel it so the pocket knife thing makes no differance unless it wasn't high enough to be cold, but losing your arm is bad. Bad Ju ju. I probably wouldn't do it, but you know, immortality isn't JUST long life, there are some goodies. so I would have got out, but KUDOS to that guy, he's got guts. Yeah man, just imagine what it'd be like sitting next to him in bar when a stranger asks him why he lost his arm. Amazing story. Sam Fisher
Thats incredible.... but a pocket knife? ouch...
Reb Starblazer
Also, after having a 800-1000 pound boulder crush your arm, it's going to be pretty much dead, useless, and need to be amputated anyway. As Welshman said, he probably couldn't even feel it, but still, I'd say that took a lot of guts. I know I wouldn't do it without some serious consideration(probably about 5 days worth:D) and only if I knew that it couldn't be saved anyway. Never the less.... A pocket knife? StormHammer
The epitome of courage and determination. An amazing story, and testament to the power of the will to live. Better to lose an arm than lose your life.
Matt-Liell
Thats a frickin brave man! OUCH A pocket knife! I don't know if I'd do that. But then again I have never been in his situation, but I pray I never will be!
Dagobahn Eagle
That or starving to death.. Er.. I'd... umh... If I had lost all feeling in it from cold (which actually might happen), then maybe. But think about the pain when the feeling returns !
Guest Jed
I don't think I could have done that. I could have if I had something better to do it with though...cutting off your own arm takes guts to do with a pocket knife.

Boba Rhett
OWWWWWWWWWWW. Ow. I heard a story like this before where a guy was getting his arm sucked into a huge pully and had to do it the same way. Gah.

greedo626
wow. a pocket knife... that's got to hurt more than imaginable. rock climbing has always been something I wouldn't want to do but that's because of falling, I never thought of having a limb crushed by a huge rock. ouch:(

Chewbacco
I wonder how long it took him to cut himself, because after you get through the flest, you have to get the bone. Yikes!
Agen
Eek, even if he couldn't feel it or it was useless, you'd still have to have some nerves to cut off you own arm.... but with a pocket knife!
C'jais
First off, even if his arm was pinned in place (it wasn't crushed), it'd still hurt like a mofo to cut yourself above the place it was squeezed. I believe it'd be possible to cut right down at the elbow joint, so you wouldn't have to cut through bone - just ligaments and skin. But still.... a pocket knife?
