Agen
"I've never been so nervous, or as excited about playing a game. I looked around [in the game], to find I was standing on a basic but sturdy wooden bridge spanning the gap over a river, whose shimmering water lapped serenely against the wooden beams. "Suddenly, tranquillity gave way to panic, as two hideous, faceless zombies came shambling towards me. As they approached, one of them picked up a barrel and threw it at me. Instinctively I fired, the power of the shotgun shell sending the barrel back at its attacker and making it reel in pain. "But the second zombie was still advancing. One well-placed shot to the head sent it flying off the bridge, coming to rest facedown in the water where it bobbed with the tide. But there was no time to celebrate. The other zombie had recovered and was once again advancing, intent on ripping out my lungs and using them as bagpipes. "And then, an idea. Aiming at the bridge just in front of my assailant, I fired. Shards of wood flew into the air just as the zombie stepped into the now gaping hole, flailing wildly as it sunk into the water, helpless as I finished it off. Even in that one short minute, the combination of many of the elements that Valve has incorporated into its game had come together in one sublime whole". Psssssssss That sure does sound like a brill scenario.
Lunatic Jedi
Woah. Woah. ... ... ... woah. This game... is going... to... ROCK!!!!!!! I have to put a circle around September 30 on my calendar!
HertogJan
Yeah HL2 roxx, I especilly like the facial animations, the physics and the really ****ing huge alien in the screen I read that the alien has such excellent physics, he actually tries to keep balance, so you won't see his legs floating above the ground, even when the terrain is uneven!! Sounds sooo great But did anyone notice the 3rd person models are really really bad??!! Look at the 2nd shot agen_terminator posted, those soldiers suck big time, as do their guns... BTW the guns they're holding are OICW's; the weapons of the future, already far in development. It is a combo of a 5.56mm rifle, a 20mm grenadelauncher with 6 round mag AND a superduper scope, which will allow you to set the grenades to explode after a specified range You had one in SoF2 and it was sweet Even though the weapon's ugly as hell

Look at the 2nd shot agen_terminator posted, those soldiers suck big time, as do their guns... Some of the character models seem to have very noticeable angles, considering they are supposed to be high poly-count. For the most part, they look good, but sharp angles in tandem with a few bad textures spoils the effect. The major problem with the characters shown far, though, is that they all seem to be clones again. I would hope to see some individualisation in terms of slightly different clothing and equipment, as well as a wide variety of different faces. The problem is that I am comparing HL2 graphically with S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and so far the latter game has the edge, especially where weapon models, character models and texturing generally are concerned. But as I said before, HL was never about killer graphics, but killer gameplay. If the characters all move realistically, and act realistically in a given situation, then I'm sure it will be very good. I hope they've made levels more interesting, and far less linear than in the original game.
