It measured 4.5...and the whole damned house shook. The brunt of it was about 3 miles from where I was living at the time. It woke me up, and everything in my room was vibrating like crazy, including the windows, and some stuff fell on the floor. It didn't last long...but yeah, it's unnerving when you experience something like that. So you have my sympathy, Lunatic. And as BLaCKouT said, there was that other one last year, and that measured around the same, I believe. So we do get them in the UK...just not as often, and not as big (so far). BigTeddyPaul
I have lived in every major part of the US and each has their own common disaster that shouldn't really phase them. In Cali we have the earthquakes. By the way I didn't feel a thing. In Florida we had the monsoons and terrible rains. In Illinios we had cyclones. Just one of those things. I have lived in California about 16 years and I have been through many which are in a way fun if you disregard loss of human life and property. Jah Warrior
well there has been a lot of movement in the techtonic plates recently :- Algeria and Tokyo have had a couple of large quakes. gotta admire the way the Japanese have prepared them selves for quakes, utterly ingenious. Lunatic Jedi
Erm... how exactly have the Japanese prepared themselves for earthquakes and why is it so ingenious?
Jah Warrior
they pioneered the design of buildings that can withstand quakes and are on the forefront of the techy side of working out quakes, their early warning system is extremely effective and they have drills very regularly, they really got it together. saw a tv show about it recently. But the world is a volatile and ever-changing place, so I guess we'll always have them somewhere at some time. I'm still waiting for the super-volcano at Yellowstone to blow...it's several thousand years overdue by all accounts. *whistles a happy tune* BTW, I like your sig pic. CagedCrado
I live in western south dakota and the only disasters are tornados, the last one that was damaging was like 20 years ago and it tore the roof off a hotel. So theres not really any major disasters here, unless you consider drought a disaster (it is but only to property) oh and the grass hoppers that eat paint off your hous and eat your cothes right off the line, but i havent seen those for a long time either.
