DomStLeger
I think the Larry news is terrible. I've said it before and I'll say it again, a game developer is like an author. Making Larry without Al Lowe is like someone writing a new Discworld Book without Terry Pratchett. It's totally ludicrous imo. A good example in the ag world is the Monkey Island series. MI 1 and 2 are classics of the genre. MI3 is an ok game, and MI4 was a disappointment. I think most of the time these things don't work well without the original makers involved. It might work in other genres, but in the Ag genre most of the plot and story usually come from a small writing team or 1 person. To continue without them removes that unique style and perspective. And whats worse, imo, is that this is basically turning the series into a "Franchise" much like the tomb raider series. Ok some of the games might be very good, but now they're solely about money instead of a little bit of love and attention to someones own creation. Basically, to sierra, after all this time you've decided to cash in on the fan base you've treated so badly. I think it's despicable.

IF the new creators use the first ideas as base and only as base and built their imagination around it...then the game can be more perfect than the first....(not copy but create something totally new) The question is.....Are the fans of the game ready to get something totally new??? The problem is that the answer is mostly No... ------------------------------------------ I would love a grim fandango 2 (my best game ever) even without dear god tim...There are so many stories to be told, and they can be said perfectly from many different people.... As for larry....If the new ones keep the ideas and built on them .and not try to copy them. then the new game can be also good...

Well, I think Sierra's entire adventure category has always been built on franchises; nothing new there. 8 King's Quests, 6(?) Space Quests, 5 Quests for Glory, 7 Leisure Suit Larrys, er...several(?) Police Quests. I do agree with the points you make in your post, however. I am not at all pleased with Sierra's hypocrisy and fan treatment. SamandMax
The only thing even remotely adventure related to Sierra that's still being continued, is the SWAT series. And they're not even using the Police Quest name anymore.
pleto4_ryan
just to add something... Sierra has let the adventure community but we mustn't be mean towards them Don't forget that all the previous adventure maniacs there have left the scene... Maybe sierra has closed her circle, should we ressurect them by force? OK its bad to use her fans....but come on...fans want to be used when calling and asking for a sequel all the time...(i am one of them ) just a thought.... AGZanthia
Lets not forget that sierra was one of the best games in ag making and the qountity of fans it has only shows the greatnes it had.

I think a Grim Fandango 2 would be a perfect example why NOT to make a sequel, especially if Schafer's not involved. I doubt anyone could approach what he did the first time. I usually only like sequels if a relatively short amount of time has passed and the same team is involved. MI 2 and BS2 are good examples. My only exception to this rule has been CMI. I don't like any LSL game so I couldn't care less about a sequel. Pray for AG.
Marek
Hackers, domain pirates or faulty ISPs won't stop AG, but if LucasArts announces a sequel to Grim Fandango led by any current LucasArts designer I will immediately close the site in protest and spend the rest of my time, say... attempting to assasinate each and every decisionmaker at the company. Let's hope it will never have to come to that. ¬¬

Yes the number of a fans are a testimony to it's former greatness. Pity it didn't realise what an asset it had before and treated us all better. I'm a big sierra fan but I think it's safe to say I probably won't buy this new LSL game. It'll be interesting to see what direction Sierra takes when it's sold off to help repay Vivendi's debt mountain. Obviously sierra itself won't return to ags, but theres always a possibility a new owner might sell off the old series.
AGZanthia
What about new CoctailVision game? They have a couple of good Ags. its a pity they all are rather old. I am not sure the company even exists nowadays. But another AG like they used 2 do would b nice. I read the news today oh boy About a lucky man who made the grade And though the news was rather sad Well I just had to laugh I saw the photograph. He blew his mind out in a car He didn't notice that the lights had changed A crowd of people stood and stared They'd seen his face before Nobody was really sure If he was from the House of Lords. I saw a film today oh boy The English Army had just won the war A crowd of people turned away But I just had to look Having read the book. I'd love to turn you on Woke up, fell out of bed, Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup, And looking up I noticed I was late. Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat Found my way upstairs and had a smoke, Somebody spoke and I went into a dream I read the news today oh boy Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire And though the holes were rather small They had to count them all Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall. I'd love to turn you on
